I would really like some help with this. Byetta has been wonderful so far, and I've lost 30 lbs, yay! But now I've developed insomnia - terrible, only 3 hours of sleep a night insomnia, which has never bothered me before. If I skip my second Byetta shot for the day, I can usually get a full night's sleep. So that's certainly a clue that I may not be able to take the full two doses of Byetta a day.
I am also having trouble with low blood sugar. My blood sugar goes from 44 to 255. I know normal is 80-120 .
At the Diabetes clinic they said if mine dropped from 50-70 to take gluclose tabs, 8, but my body is reacting like a normal one. I take 4 at 44 which is life threatening low.
I also notice that lately it's dropping after I eat which I don't understand.

I just had a oral glucose tolerance test. My fasting results were like 108. I took the glucose and then came back every hour (five times) for a blood test. The second and third hour the lab tech asked (twice) if I had taken the glucose 'cuse there was no change in my blood sugar levels at all. It was about the third or forth hour and my blood sugar suddenly was at low 70's for the last hour or two.
I felt sick as a dog when my blood sugar tanked down to the 70's.

Good afternoon. I have been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes for about 5 years now...I think I had the problem well before that but I had a doctor who would never run the test (just lose some weight, etc). I'm not very good about keeping my levels under control because I get so discouraged that I just give up from time to time.
t seem to be experiencing the usual side effects (nausea, headache) others do or that I did when I was on Byetta (I was told Victoza is very similar to Byetta) a few years ago. However ... and this happened to me on a prior med (I forget which one) about 6 months ago, but I started feeling pretty severe anxiety: my face is flushed, my heart is racing, I have a knot in my stomach, and I started getting paranoid (like thinking a friend was going to betray me) for no reason whatsoever.
I did some reserch on line and found there are all kinds of side effects, damage to the kidneys, liver and G.I. issues. For the last year I have had IBS and now my blood sugar is climbing, (only my fasting). Needless to say I have quit taking the injections because I'm afraid it has caused these changes. Has anyone else had these sort of problems? I'm going to see my Dr. in a few weeks and I want to be better informed.
I am hypothyroid , with extreme fatigue and sleepiness i sleep for 15 hours a day , My thyroid function is perfect according to the blood results , i have been hypothyroid for 4 years . My fasting and post prandial blood sugar is normal , hb1ac 5.6 , howeever my fasting insuling is bit elevated but post prandial insulin level is skyrocket , it is 190 while top range for post prandial in the test is 20 . I feel extreme thirsty and sweat very much and urinate 4 times in the night .
Hmm, sorry but I guess I do not understand. Your post says that the discussion is related to "fasting blood sugar levels high in the morning" but all of your information relates to testing blood after meals. Guess that for me it cannot be both. My Diabetes Nurse's instructions for morning fasting blood test are to test the blood "when you awake, before eating or any medication".
Besides Victoza there are two other injectable medications which are not insulin.Only your doctor should recommend medications not strangers on an Internet forum. Talk with him/her to see what medication is best suited to your needs.
I used Byetta for a long time and I am not an expert or medical person. You are best to get the information from your doctor. Before I started using Byetta, I had to take classes from a nurse on how I had to inject Byetta into my stomach. It was prescribed by my Doctor. Byetta has side effects reported by some people but I had no problems with it other than the expense. It does give you a feeling of fullness and it has a nickname (Spit).
They recently found several cysts in my breasts and uterus and put me on low dose birth control to see if it would shrink them and then I get tested again in 4 months to make sure it's not "cancerous" so when I started getting this wierd urine odor over the past week, I called my gyno and they said they wanted to do a urine test and check for diabetes. I'm not/nor have I ever been overweight but I do have a desk job.
Has anyone had a low blood sugar level during pregnancy im 8wks & 2days and i swaer im going to drop to the floor im not due back to my doctors till i am 12 wks.
Most people do not consider blood sugar to be low and in need of treatment unless it is under 70 or even under 60. However, if your blood sugar has been high for awhile than numbers that are not technically hypos can feel like they are. If you have diarrhea since last Thursday and not able to eat (regardless of your need to lose weight) you should check with your doctor as you can become dehydrated.
I have not heard about MS and low blood sugar being related. I do know that there are many people that have MS and diabetes. Still the doctor's say they are not related. I still have the gut feeling that they are related.
Please make sure that your doctor is aware of these times of low blood sugar. You don't want to take any chances with your health.
Actually with low blood sugar the best thing is an increase in protien. I keep a block of cheese on hand and if mine starts to drop then I slice off a piece and lay down with some water a few mins and it clears up. I have dealt with low blood sugar in all 3 pregnancies now but was not diabetic...oh and my dr suggested powerade or Gatorade to help keep then stable.
