Common Questions and Answers about Byetta and liver

byetta

Avatar m tn I would really like some help with this. Byetta has been wonderful so far, and I've lost 30 lbs, yay! But now I've developed insomnia - terrible, only 3 hours of sleep a night insomnia, which has never bothered me before. If I skip my second Byetta shot for the day, I can usually get a full night's sleep. So that's certainly a clue that I may not be able to take the full two doses of Byetta a day.
Avatar f tn I did some reserch on line and found there are all kinds of side effects, damage to the kidneys, liver and G.I. issues. For the last year I have had IBS and now my blood sugar is climbing, (only my fasting). Needless to say I have quit taking the injections because I'm afraid it has caused these changes. Has anyone else had these sort of problems? I'm going to see my Dr. in a few weeks and I want to be better informed.
Avatar m tn Hello, obviously you are having a problem tolerating byetta, and given that this is now 3 months and you have lost so much weight, I would think it may be rational to ask your doctor if you can stop this medication and try something different? Why did your dr. not decide to start you on Metformin? Have you been monitoring your blood sugars (while on byetta)? What is your fasting and post-eating blood sugars. What was your Hba1c when you started this med?
Avatar n tn I used Byetta for a long time and I am not an expert or medical person. You are best to get the information from your doctor. Before I started using Byetta, I had to take classes from a nurse on how I had to inject Byetta into my stomach. It was prescribed by my Doctor. Byetta has side effects reported by some people but I had no problems with it other than the expense. It does give you a feeling of fullness and it has a nickname (Spit).
Avatar n tn Is Lantus and Metformin ok to take or is the Metformin harmful to my liver? I know several with Hep-c who take Metformin.
489891 tn?1209058786 My question is y are you taking byetta and actos+met... and I'm on topamx, but for seizures... I'm also on actos plusmet 15/500 just once a day, with a insulin pump ( i take apidra in my pump)... byetta and actos plus met are very similar drugs doing the same thing.. the actos+met will make you gain weight very quickly. How many shots of byetta are you taking a day a long with the actos plus met? and what dose of actos are you taking and why...
Avatar n tn Hello =) I'm 34 years old and am about to begin my first cycle with the ovulation drug clomid. I'm a type 2 diabetic, have PCOS, and I have PSVT. I take Byetta, metformin, and metoprolol. I have been working with my Dr. for about 18 months to loose weight (I've lost over 60 lbs), get my blood sugar under control (my last 2 AICs were normal), and get medically ready to have a child. Last week he told us he feels comfortable with my heath for my husband and I to try to get pregnant.
502219 tn?1311357910 In March while following up on a case of Ludwigs Angina my enhanced CT scan showed.small non pathologically enlarged lymph nodes bilaterally with some inhomogeneity within the thyroid. I hadn't really worried about it until today when I saw a commercial for a law firm warning that the diabetic drug "Byetta" could cause thyroid cancer. I used this med for over a year in 2006 and was taken off because of other complications. Now I'm scared. Should I be?
Avatar f tn I see that this is under juvenile diabetes, which I know even less about. But, Byetta is remarkable for a lot of folks, and there are two newer, similar, products available also.
178107 tn?1315947630 Has anyone used Byetta? I started taking it four weeks ago and it has done wonders on controling my blood sugars and I have also lost 16 pounds. My doctor told me that it may help me to drop a few pounds, but I never thought it could help that much. I admit it does make you nausious, but I can take that for the weight loss.
Avatar n tn I had to change to Byetta in about 2 weeks (finished Victoza sample and insurance would only pay for Byetta). I developed nausea at the smaller dose of Victoza, and never used the larger dose. The nausea was unchanged with the change of meds.....and I have lost a LOT of weight (29 pounds). But the nausea started within a day or two of starting it. At least for me.
233616 tn?1312787196 ) hmm part of the equation also cholesterol in the brain protects serotonin as well, and later stage liver disease can lower cholesterol which may then interfere with serotonin's uptake. low brain serotonin is linked to increased impulsive violence, including homicide, arson, and suicide ergo liver patients should make sure their cholesterol is not getting too low. (maybe a couple of eggs might not be so bad after all?
Avatar m tn good article Copy, sorry I missed it earlier. for a while I was off the metformin theory due to the newer drugs such as Byetta and Victoza being more "liver friendly". However, sice succoumbing to a throat tumor (victoza in particular known for thyroid issues) which will removed Monday, I'm off the liver spit drugs and back on the metformin band wagon.
Avatar f tn I have been sick with a cold/flu for three weeks. Two days ago, I developed diarrhea. It seemed to occur immediately after eating. Today, the diarrhea was bright yellow and I passed something the size of a small grape (also yellow in color). I'm currently on synthroid (for hypothyroidism), effexor (for depression), and metformin & byetta (for insulin resistence). I've been on the Byetta for nearly a month, but have not suffered any side effects to date.
Avatar m tn t seem to be experiencing the usual side effects (nausea, headache) others do or that I did when I was on Byetta (I was told Victoza is very similar to Byetta) a few years ago. However ... and this happened to me on a prior med (I forget which one) about 6 months ago, but I started feeling pretty severe anxiety: my face is flushed, my heart is racing, I have a knot in my stomach, and I started getting paranoid (like thinking a friend was going to betray me) for no reason whatsoever.
Avatar n tn Also if I do not get up and eat with in 5-10minutes in the morning I get very tired. One last thing is that I usually get no warning sign of being hungry. I feel full and fine and the next minute I feel like if I do not eat I am going to pass out. I get real shaky and hot and it gets hard for me to see straight. Any comments would help.
Avatar n tn My TSH was at 1.4 in feb. and something else was 0.434 . I am type 2 and on 35 units of Lantus and sliding scale of novolog.
475740 tn?1208262865 I don't know if anything else, I take metformin 1000mgs a day, and at first it kept me with the runs and I lost 20lbs but, then after my body got use to the meds I gained it all back.. I am going to start a liquid diet.. if that doesn't help then I am going to look into Weight Loss surgery.. I am close to 250lbs my biggest is 255.. and I am 5'6 I think that my weight has alot to do with all my health problems and not being able to get PG.. so I need to lose weight some how..
Avatar f tn i have 15 byetta prefilled pens 10mg for sale as i no longer need them maybe their some one what them and they are all store in cooler/fridge.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your reply, I'm aware of Symlin and Byetta, but neither My Dr. and what information I can gather on the web works as well as Victoza. I understand Byetta is coming out with a medication that lasts much longer but it uses a larger needle and is truly an injection. Don't understand why these drug companies in the US price their product out of reach of most....
Avatar m tn I am in my late 50's. I was diagnosed with severe ulcerative colitis in 2004, and when my anemia did not clear up after 6 months of prednisone and other meds, another colonoscopy was performed and the colitis was completely cleared up, revealing a tumor in the hepatic flexure of the colon. This turned out to be stage 3C colon cancer.

Avatar f tn I started taking Glucophage and Byetta. My cycle started to come down on a monthly basis. I got off of both these medications maybe 8 months ago and now I am back to the missed months again. I am also taking Maxide for my high blood pressure and I take it every single day, faithfully. In Januray my cycle was fine (usually lasts 4 days) and then in February, I started seeing lighter menstruation. In March, it skipped.
Avatar f tn I have been put on Lantus, which is working well, but now he (the doctor) has also put me on Byetta. I read all the warnings, and I asked the pharmacy, and they both told me the side effects are nausea, diahrrea, upset stomach and possible life threatening pancreatis. This bothers me, as my stomach upsets easily, but what I really want to know is how many of you have been on it and what your reactions were? Also, is the chance of being allergic to it very high?
Avatar f tn Wife takes Metformin; her Dad took Glucophage, but no MS in either of them. Not sure how much they helped, but I think her sugar's stayed down pretty well since her diagnosis, which triggered the Rx. She's also been on Byetta for a couple of years, I think. i'm unaware of any resultant problems.
Avatar n tn The daily recommended dose for normal supplementation (in the absence of deficiency) used to be 400 IU, but this dose has been found to be inadequate in certain populations and regions and has been altered to 700 IU and up to 2000 IU can safely be taken daily. If you have been responding well to the current regimen you are on, there is no need to step-up the dose.
194838 tn?1303428544 I would also like to know if I should still take my diabetic meds as usual ,which are metformin and byetta? and should I skip breakfast on the morning of the test?. Thankyou for any help or advice you can give me.
Avatar m tn I am not on Insulin but rather a medication called Byetta. I must use the needle to inject the med but I do not have to regulate it as I believe those who use Insulin do. I simply must take it twice a day. Additionally, Insulin does not get rid of Diabetes - it is simply another attempt to control it. I hope someone with complete information can give you the answer you seek.
Avatar n tn Do you know what I could research on the web. Thank you for any time and support to help me understand, and research whats happening to me.
