Wellbutrin, the brand name of bupropion, had the lowest overall rate of sexual dysfunction. It was associated with a rate of 22% of the overall population. The sustained release formulation fared almost as well with a rate of 25%. In contrast, the SSRIs (Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft and Celexa), venlafaxine (Effexor) and mirtazapine (Remeron) averaged about 40%. When subjects were removed who had other probable causes of sexual dysfunction, the results were even better.
Thank you for your response, I wanted to talk to my doctor about the cabergoline because where I was treated for so long with SSRIs, I now suffer from Post SSRI sexual dysfunction and we are looking into treatments to help relieve this effect.
SSRIs have way too many negative side effects I believe such as weight gain, sexual dysfunction and even increased depression. Another reason why I think bupropion is a much better choice and should actually be the first choice treatment rather than an SSRI.
The other thing is that even though bupropion only inhibits the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine it does also indirectly increase serotonin as well.
I have been a regular exctascy (MDMA, Methampetiamine) user for the past 6 months or so and have been suffering from sexual dysfunction that i strongly believe has resulted from this recreational drug use. I was doing some research and found some information about MDMA damaging serotonin which directly influences sexual behavior.
My question- I decided to quit MDMA about a month ago, and im wondering if my sex drive and erections will go back to normal over time or if this damage is permanent?
I was prescribed 300 mg xl of bupropion for anxiety that comes from a neurlogical problem in my eyes called Nystagmus. I think side effects of bupropion cause blurred vision and problems with one eye not moving in conjunction with the other which is horrible in addition to Nystagmus. I've lived with this because I was told bupropion is the least likeliest of pills to cause sexual disfunction. Is this true?
This was subsequently diagnosed as pharyngeal gonorrhea and treated with oral and injected antibiotics. How long will it take for these antibiotics to cure the gonorrhea and when is it safe to have oral sex again?

With me the Celexa just killed my libido and had no desire for anything. My doctor then weaned me off the Celexa and put me on the Bupropion XL. He started me for 7 days on 150 mg and then went to 300 mg. Everyone is different but the Bupropion gave me back my libido and still keeps my depression in check. I do recall my doctor saying the Bupropion can take a few weeks to get the full effect since I had already been on the Celexa.
When it hurts I try to tolerate it so I can please him. But he is a horn dog and pushy. Then it came to a point, I started reducing sexual activity. I would tell him I'm having an outbreak and didn't want to fool around. he would say it doesn't matter cause he has herpes too. This went on for a lonnng time. I would explain my concerns and he would blow me off. We have many arguments about this and I am at my end, enough to end this relationship.
Till I was 60yrs my libido was fantastic and I was enjoying my sex fully.Suddenly after that I could see I loosing interest in sexual activity.My erection is fine and normally erected in the early morning.I am not getting the erge or impulse to initiate the sexual game.My wife is also quite frustrated but quite understanding.

So I have been sexual active since I was 17+ and I am 25 now and I have never felt ant sexual please or have an orgasm. But the real problem is that we are trying to get pregnant and 5 times out of 6, he is unable to ejaculate.
When you say sexual dysfunction ,do you refer to an erectile and ejaculation problem?
Do you experience any pain or deformity during erection or ejaculation?
When you say "no erection", does this happen 100% of the time?
Do you still get night time erections ?
Have you any previous infections or prior surgeries or instrumentation of the genitalia?
Any recent pain or problems with urination?
I am on 100 mg of bupropion and was feeling a little anxious. Before taking bupropion, when I felt a little anxious my roommate would give me one of his ativan's, but a full 0.5 would make me sleepy…so I cut it down to 0.25 which worked nicely. I have started to do that with the bupropion…is that ok?
I plan at this point to wait and see if his sexual function does return and when it does, to point out (ever so subtely) that maybe the problem was related to Effexor rather than his age and it might help him focus on the benefits of being off Effexor while experiencing withdrawal.
Again, thanks for letting me know Effexor related sexual dysfunction is not permanent. I will let you all know how it goes.
I had been taking an ssri for about 8 years now and I was always SO tired, never no energy, and the sexual side effects were something I decided I no longer wanted to deal with, not to mention no energy and I felt emotionally numb. Long story short right after the switch i noticed a HUGE change for the good of course. It was like someone had flipped a switch on and I began to live again. about 10 days after the switch i began to have severe sweating episodes....
My husband das been diagnosed with depression and anxiety had been taking Effexor XR 75mgs or about 1 year however the side effects ie weight gain tiredness and loss of libido was troubling him. The switched to cymbaltor, due to high costs (even with insurance) of this medication is wanting to switch to somethig that is less expensive and that has a generic available. What about Wellbutrin or do you have any other suggeations?
Hi there...I take Wellbutrin XL (300 mg extended release bupropion) and no I didn't gain weight on it. I have been on differing doses for over 2 years. Also, no loss of sex drive if that is important to you which is a common side effect of most of the other medications used for anxiety.
