I know it "looks like a human drug also" and it is BUT is used for different purposes in humans. Animals metabolize drugs much differently... Lay down in a dark room with a cold cloth as Poochie said. It will pass with time and some otc meds.

ve read on holistic info sites that BUPRENORPHINE is the best and SAFEST pain med for cats....I know thats the one my Vet uses too. Is this for long term use?

Subutex, which is composed of only buprenorphine, and Suboxone, which is a combination of Buprenorphine and Naloxone. It's my understanding that a physician requires even more education when ordering either of these drugs than the usual opiate education. The medical documentation required is even more stringent. Indeed it's now even more difficult to find a physician that will order Buprenorphine. The DEA is breathing down their necks.

Does it have the nasty side effects of oxy or other pain meds.

Eagle is correct, Cathy-- buprenorphine, Suboxone, and Subutex are all essentially identical. Buprenorphine has been around for 30 years; it used to be sold under the brand 'temgesic' in liquid form before being made as Suboxone, which is easier to dose. Buprenorphine is used for pain, mostly in Europe-- a skin patch in the UK called 'buTrans' releases 5-20 micrograms of bupe per hour through the skin. I'm sorry that you are having trouble finding a Doctor to prescribe what you think you need for your pain. why cant i stay off the methadone for 3 days and than get a script for buprenorphine generic .and start my treatment detox at home. i do have a gp doctor.and i think he can do the buprenorphine program.

i have some buprenorphine tablets but when i take them i go straight into cold turkey.i have taken the buprenorphine tablets for a few years before but my prescription got stopped so i opted for the above tablets for the time being whilst im on the waiting list to go back on the buprenorphine.does anyone know how long i have to stop taking the deydrocodeine and tramadol for before i can start taking the buprenorphine again please.

cant obtain gabapentin anymore and would like to transfer to oxycodone 120mg daily as a substitute for buprenorphine and gabapentin.I would like to know is such change possible.

The only time I would recommend using Suboxone or buprenorphine for detox is for people who are entering a long-term residential treatment center, because at least then there is a chance-- albeit a small one-- for sustained sobriety. I do not see buprenorphine as a 'replacement.' I will leave you to search out my articles scattered all over the web, describing why in great detail.

When I saw my pain management consultant a few months ago he put me on Buprenorphine Transdermal Patches, 10mg. ! patch to be put on for 7 days. This is in addition to the Oxycontin. The patch has recently been increased to 20mg. I have recently started reducing the Oxycontin in the view of coming off it totally. I have so far reduced it by 10mg. My Dr hase prescibed me Oxynorm 5mg, once a day, incase I experience withdrawal symptoms.

After inputting so much of a dose the brain shuts off the receptors and will not uptake any more opiates.

I tried many different ways to get off heroin rehab/straight cold turkey detox etc but eventually got put on a buprenorphine Maintainance program by my doctor and local drug team so that I could sort my life out first. This worked for me to get off the heroin. I managed to move to a new city and put my self through university. I graduated this year and I am planning to get married to my fiancée next year. But, I am still taking the buprenorphine.

just realised that buprenorphine is not the same as naltrexone but would still be interested if anybody experiences withdrawals!

My own opinion (after experiencing it) is Sub should only be used for Heroin, Methadone, or large Oxycontin addictions --- and then only for acute withdrawal symptoms for about 7 days. At some point in recovery, we all had to go through the same process --- and it is not pleasant ---- There is no "Free Get out of W/D's Card" ----- The most important thing is that we do escape all opiates - including Suboxone ---- Until that happens a person is still bound.
