Buprenorphine detox

Common Questions and Answers about Buprenorphine detox

suboxone

Avatar m tn Can anyone help me with some knowledge of this medication????? I have a relative who's suffered badly for years and tried every clinic and therapy and medication and nothing helped till now. He's lately been prescribed this buprenorphine and he swears it's just about given him his life back. My question is it a narcotic, therefore addictive. Does it have the nasty side effects of oxy or other pain meds.
Avatar m tn and start my treatment detox at home. i do have a gp doctor.and i think he can do the buprenorphine program.
Avatar f tn The only time I would recommend using Suboxone or buprenorphine for detox is for people who are entering a long-term residential treatment center, because at least then there is a chance-- albeit a small one-- for sustained sobriety. I do not see buprenorphine as a 'replacement.' I will leave you to search out my articles scattered all over the web, describing why in great detail.
Avatar m tn Suboxone is a combination of Buprenorphine and Naloxone, which is added in with the Buprenorphine an effort to prevent people from abusing it. I've had a much easier time tapering off Suboxone, and with more success, than I was ever able to Oxycontin, but did it at a much slower pace from a much lower dose than he's talking about. If your doctor is going to be managing it your questions about how much you should start at and for how long is between the two of you.
Avatar m tn No, Temgesic is way, way weaker than sub. One sub is equal to 40 or 20 Temgesic ( temgesic is .2 or .4 MG Buprenorphine a sub is 8 MG) Also Temgesic is just Buprenorphine, Suboxone is Buprenorphine and Naloxone, however the naloxone doesn't really do anything in subs so idk why they even put it in there.
1472850 tn?1290125172 I'm the wife. The first 3 weeks of Wolf's detox were the 9th circle of hell. For both of us. I'm thankful that part of recovery is over.
Avatar m tn How can I get rid of buprenorphine? I've been on it for the last twelve years. I've tried tapering, but whether I take 16 or 2 mgs, the withdrawal is just as bad... Thank you for your answers.
Avatar f tn Suboxone is the brand name for a medication consisting of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is a thebaine derivative with powerful analgesia approximately 20-40x more potent than morphine. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist and antagonist of the opioid receptors in the central nervous system which means  when the its molecule binds to a receptor , it will transduce only a partial response in contrast to a full agonist such as morphine.
1405767 tn?1282634598 The patients were enrolled in a 2-week run-in phase, during which time they converted to transdermal buprenorphine or a placebo patch. Rescue analgesia with buprenorphine sublingual tablets 0.2 mg was allowed as needed. The researchers defined response as a mean pain intensity reduction of 5 points on a 10-point scale and a mean daily need for two or fewer buprenorphine sublingual tablets.
Avatar m tn u say u want to help so tell me how to detox off 2mg of buprenorphine PLEASE
Avatar m tn Norspam is known in the states as buprenorphine. Buprenorphine will work to stop withdrawals. It does so because it's an extremely powerful opiate. Most of us here would consider it a 'last resort' for opiate dependence and addiction. It has a history of being extremely hard to get off of. In fact, if you can't maintain a taper schedule it can be nearly impossible to stop using. People here have stopped while on high doses but it's the exception not the rule.
Avatar f tn I have been researching this fairly extensively. Much like Suboxone, there is a lot of 'miracle drug' stories and 'horror' stories. The science behind it fascinats me. Buprenorphine is the only breakthrough in addiction pharmaceuticals methadone. Researchers where funded to research psilocybin and cluster headaches and ibogaine for heroine dependence/addiction. Endeogens stimulate, rather than block, the transmitter sights in the old brain.
Avatar f tn Suboxone contains buprenorphine, an opiate that is a partial agonist at the receptor and that has been around for over 30 years. If you read any 'goodman and gilman' (the bible of pharmacology) you will read that 'buprenorphine is less addictive than other opiates because of the partial agonist effects'. But for anyone addicted to opiates, even codeine is very addictive!
Avatar f tn Thanks Jaybay! I did know about the actions and uses of buprenorphine and .... and the fact that Suboxone has the additional naloxone component to prevent injection abuse. I didn't know that Fentanyl could "knock bupe right off its pins." You're right, there must be more but I can't even find at you are saying about Fentanyl on line.
1548080 tn?1293869794 hi i detox by subuzone, how long before i could be addicted to it. i intend to quit opiate now. pls advice.
1122748 tn?1306239764 most people, including physicians, do not comprehend the strength and effects of buprenorphine. “Everything changes in the body when you’re on opiates long-term—the way the body regulates pain, the way it regulates hormone production, sleep, emotions, everything,” he said. And buprenorphine, he stresses, is an opiate. Its effects are not just physical: as a psychiatrist, Scanlan has noticed, for example, that at long-term doses of just 2mg, Suboxone can block almost all of a person’s emotions.
3149841 tn?1344817005 //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buprenorphine#Inpatient_rehabilitation_and_detoxification Buprenorphine is a semi-synthetic opioid that is used to treat opioid addiction in higher dosages (>2 mg), to control moderate acute pain in non-opioid-tolerant individuals in lower dosages (~200 µg), and to control moderate chronic pain in dosages ranging from 20–70 µg/hour.
Avatar f tn I tapered down to 5mg. Then cold turkey until I couldnt take it and went to detox. Months later Im still not sleeping so VERY REGRETFULLY STARTED METHADOEN AGAIN. Now I am taking 50mg a day. My question is I WANT OFF QUICK! Im about to switch to suboxine. Will a month of low suboxine use give my body time to kick most of the methadone? Secondly, are suboxine withdrawls as bad as methadone and how long to they last?

Avatar f tn Buprenorphine, marketed under the brand name Suboxone, was developed as a safer alternative for treating people addicted to heroin and painkillers compared to methadone. It was also designed to be resistant to abuse, but it hasn't turned out that way.
Avatar f tn Eagle is correct, Cathy-- buprenorphine, Suboxone, and Subutex are all essentially identical. Buprenorphine has been around for 30 years; it used to be sold under the brand 'temgesic' in liquid form before being made as Suboxone, which is easier to dose. Buprenorphine is used for pain, mostly in Europe-- a skin patch in the UK called 'buTrans' releases 5-20 micrograms of bupe per hour through the skin. Six years ago, in 2003, Suboxone became available in the US.
Avatar f tn My thinking was more clear on subs than methadone. For me, I should have stayed on it longer to let the methadone detox, but totally opiate free has worked out best. Is the sub for pain, detox, why did you change meds? Are you trying to get off all opiates, I guess I am wondering what your plan is. With more info of your goals and situation we can help more. Hang in there, we can work this out.

199177 tn?1490498534 you got MMT methadone treatment program, that wuld be for more severe addictions not for hydrocodone, vicodin, percocet addictions, more severe like heavy amounts of H or oxycontins, dilaudid, the super potent opioids, then you have suboxone(buprenorphine 8mgs and 2mgs Naloxone tablets) and Subutex(buprenorphine) treatment which will work for any severity of addiction, it works the best as far as success reates go for addictions to vicodin, percocet, oxycotnin, and not super heavy addictions, but
199177 tn?1490498534 Subutex® is a single entity buprenorphine product and Suboxone® is a combination product with buprenorphine and naloxone in a 4:1 ratio, respectively. After reviewing all the available data and receiving a schedule III recommendation from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the DEA placed buprenorphine and all products containing buprenorphine into schedule III in 2002. Since 2003, diversion, trafficking and abuse of buprenorphine have become more common in the United States.
