Broken leg dog limp

Common Questions and Answers about Broken leg dog limp

broken-leg

Avatar m tn He then explained to me that since she has had leg surgery to fix a broken leg bone, that she probably raises her leg as a reflex in a way to alleviate the pain she may feel, on and off, in her abdomen. If in two weeks there is no improvement or throughout the days she gets worst then we'd do x-rays and maybe even an ultrasound. Regardless I thank you for taking the time to help and clarify things for us pet owners. Your help is much appreciated.
Avatar m tn While sleeping in the night, she has been screeching / crying for around 3-5 minutes 2. Over the past week her right leg has been getting worse, she can only walk on 1 leg and limp (as if her leg / paw is fractured / broken / arthritis?) 3. While sitting by herself, she will start to screech - without any human contact 4.
Avatar n tn my boyfriend was in a car wreck while he was crossing a street and he has the folllowing injuries a fractured leg a cracked pelvis and his right arm is broken in 3 places . he was sent to bedrest and keep his left leg elevated above the hip and he is not allowed to do much . he wants to walk and move around and he is so depressed cause he can't and it hurts me to see him like this.
Avatar n tn In damp weather she would limp ever so slightly now and again (she once years ago had a broken leg) Within a week of giving her the Glucosamine/Chondroitin, she stopped limping and never ever did so again the rest of her life.
Avatar m tn He hasn't thrown up, that we are aware of, and he's eating and drinking like normal. Going to the toilet normal too (both ways) However he is a bit lethargic, but he's always been a lazy dog, and he seems to be limping but I can't tell which leg, he is also stiff. He seem's to have improved, but I didn't think it was chocolate until today, I found an empty bag of milk choc chips. He could have had upwards of 100g. I am really scared. Will he be okay?
Avatar m tn They certainly help my dog, I can vouch for that. She has been on them now for 2 years. She used to limp very slightly on a back leg which was once broken when she was younger. The vet said she would probably grow to develop arthritis in that leg, and it did seem things might be going that way, as any change in the weather to dampness, had her 'hitching' up that leg sometimes. Since starting the Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement, she has not even done that once!
558059 tn?1288550944 ) In her case she had an intermittent limp in her right leg, which was a throwback from a broken leg about 6 years ago. As soon as I started her on the supplement, after about 5 days (!) I noticed she didn't limp anymore. And in 1 year, she hasn't done so since! I have heard though, that Glucosamine and Chondroitin can take quite a time to work. But I would have thought after 6 weeks, you should have noticed some difference. I THINK cod liver oil is OK for dogs....
Avatar f tn Lilly is a 9month old yorkshire terrier. On friday i noticed that she was picking up her back leg whilst running, but when walking she is fine on 4 legs. She puts weight on the leg, sits on it, lies on it, she is still jumping up. When my boyrfriend touches the leg she is fine, when i touch it to see whats wrong she snaps at me. (She is my dog) but only occaisionally, almost like a child who pretends their ill and forgets to say oh that hurt but will do it next time.
Avatar n tn my questtion is im still getting pain at the fracture site and im still walking with quite a heavey limp could anyone tell me how long i will have the limp and the odd nagging pain at the fracture site or will i have this for life? i have a rod and 3 screws in my leg to would it be advised to have these taken out after full bone healing and could this be contributing to the limp and pain.
Avatar f tn 6 weeks ago my healthy 12 year old staffie-cross developed a limp in his front left leg. In the 6 wks til now it has gone from a limp, to stiff leg, to not picking paw up when walking, to now having a knuckled paw and walking on 3 legs. At first my vet thought arthritus and he was given metacam and advised gentle 10 min walk, butnow she's thinking bone cancer or damaged nerve.
Avatar m tn My dog began limping last night. He could put very little pressure on his right front leg. He was able to walk but limped. He is limp more quickly this morning and we have given asprin. we dont know how he didn't. But we want to make sure it's not dislocated. He has no pain when extend or pulled on leg. A great deal of pressure has to be put on limp and under arm to get a whimper. he let me message which seemed to help.
Avatar m tn my dog just woke up with a limp again, even worse then before. PLEASE SOMEONE GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION thank you.
1696394 tn?1316235275 m not sure I am understand this right but seems he has problems with the leg/foot that was broken? I would think, the only you can determine what is going on for sure is take him to the Vet (possibly another one or an Ortho Vet if you have one in your area) and get an x-ray on that leg to see if they can see what's going on for sure. Other then that, no way to tell. I had a puppy break a leg years ago and had it casted but it stayed on!!
1930950 tn?1323219179 My aust. Cattle dog limps when inside but outside she runs on our walks. We just moved to a very cold state from florida. Shes overweight and has been on the green diet vof the last week since I first saw the limp.
Avatar f tn My dog Charlie is about four or five years old and we're unsure of his breeding because he's a rescue dog. He is a medium size dog, about the size of a collie but shorter in the leg. Over a period of several weeks I've noticed a change in his mobility, particularly when ascending the stairs, getting up from a resting position, and sitting down. His right back leg appears quite stiff after resting and when he gets up he has to stretch it out behind him before setting off.
Avatar m tn I found her below with only a limp on her back right leg. She had pain in the leg and for a day or two just slept in the bed. After observing her for a couple of day I noticed that she continued to use the litter box (although in pain) continued to eat well and play. Now she even runs around and seems to have her same attitude as before, but she doesn't use her back right leg. It seems that the problem is in her hip.
1206925 tn?1274386227 Me and my fiance own a 12 month old Rottie whose developed a heavy limp in his front left leg yet the vet can't find anything physically wrong with any of the joints in the leg. It's got us confused, could it be psycological because he was 4 months old when we got him and we later found out that the previous owners had been arrested a few weeks later for breeding dogs for illegal dog fights. Could it be an old wound from early puppyhood that healed well physically but not mentally?
Avatar m tn A couple of days ago my dog started having sudden severe pain attacks. It seems to happen at random times when walking or lying down. He will yelp, scream and try to get away from the pain for minute and then it is done. He will often then come and climb on you or against you (he's a full size dog - not a lap dog). He seems to favour the front right leg during the attack but doesn't limp at other times. After the attack he will want to be with you and seems to be warn out.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you have taken care of your dogs broken toe nail very well. If your dog is showing signs of discomfort, you may want to check with your vet to be sure there are no other problems or any infection.
Avatar n tn Additionally, I walk my dog every morning. Granted, the walks have slowed as he has aged and the distance traveled h as lessened, but he still does get excercise. He reminds me that it's time to walk and appears to enjoy it. Is there any physcial theraphy that I can perform at home, such a leg motion - movement or stretching? Don't know if this would even help. If yes, can you describe motions/excercises to use and frequency/reps.
536929 tn?1217872077 It was a broken front right leg, both the ulna and the radius, broken in the forearm an inch or two from the wrist. And also, she had some bone(s) dislocated in her wrist. So the vet pushed the wrist bones back into position (I think) and tried to re-align the two bones of the arm/leg, the smaller one went back into position, and the larger one would not. The vet said "it went into position and then it popped out of alignment.
Avatar f tn A few of you asked to be updated on the kitty cat I found (or I should, "Who found us!"). We just got back from the vet. He got vaccinated, medication for an infection in his ears, de-wormer stuff, and x-rays. The x-rays showed a BB pellet lodged in the cat's chest, but that isn't something we have to worry about. But I was absolutely livid inside when the vet told me.
Avatar f tn My dog... a 4 year old...has developed a lim in his r front leg. Vet seen and xrays are clear for breaks and bone lesions. RX rimadly for 2 weeks and rest. His limp is pronounced when he first gets up from laying down and he limps a little bit then is fine. he even runs like a bat out of hell without any effort. What could this be? Osteoarthritis is possible but should have shown up in xray.
Avatar n tn It might indicate a strained tendon. If it were a broken bone, she would not walk on the leg at all. When you are looking at her foot, also look at her leg for any possible bites, and also feel her shoulder. So far, it doesn't sound bad. But if you happen to find a bite, get her in to see the vet as soon as possible.
996946 tn?1503249112 I posted on here awhile back about my dog, Barney, He'd gone through a bout of heartworms a few yrs back. Now he is having repercussions from it. He was put on VetMedin, Enalapril, Lassix and Diltiazem. My husband thought he seemed worse lately with coughing constantly, so he stopped the meds for a few days. Now Barney isn't coughing but seems a little unstable on his feet....he's 11 1/2 yrs old. Does anyone have any experience dealing with this?
Avatar n tn After PT I can now walk, climb stairs, ladders, jump from chair and starting to run with a limp, I walk without limp. No pain unless someone hit my injured leg area, only discomfort now and than but goes away in seconds. Soreness when I do lots of walking or play sports but no pain. Pretty much getting back to normal after a year post surgery But when I visit my doctor for follow up, X-Rays still show my tibia bone still healing on broken tibia site.
Avatar n tn It started approximately a week ago, my 3 y/o pit bull mix started yelping when jumping on the sofa. He can't run, either. He has troubles going up and down the stairs. We thought he had injured his back leg, took him to a vet, where they touched and pulled on his rear legs, and he didn't make a sound. Today when I slightly touched his lower back he yelped again. I tried touching his lower back from the opposite side, same thing happened. And I barely touched him.
