Common Questions and Answers about Broken leg recovery dog

Avatar n tn I have a relative whom was told by a doctor that the blisters on her legs were herpes and she probably got it from a dog. He prescribed her Valtrex and the blisters disappeared. I've searched online for more cases, but have only found one. The post said that it is highly contagious from dogs and is airborne and can be contracted just by breathing. Now, I have 3 blisters on my thigh and 1 on my leg. Could I have gotten it from her? How common is is?
Avatar m tn t vaccinate his dog regularly. If there was blood and the dog got saliva in the blood in your leg (if the skin was broken) you are at risk. But, you can call the police and have them make the guy monitor the dog for 10 days for symptoms and call the animal control about it. They will tell him the symptoms to look for in the dog. If the dog has no symptoms you will be ok. but then by the time you develop symptoms it is too late (there is no treatment at this stage).
Avatar m tn The nose end of the vehicle landed on her right lower leg, crushing the Tibia and Fracturing the Fibula. She was Med-Flighted the 40+ miles to Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children in Alabama. I would have preferred that she had been flown to UAB in Birmingham, Alabama but she was losing a lot of blood, so good thinking on behalf of the Med Flight Crew. Anyway, she spent 8 hours in the Pediatric Trauma/ER before seeing a surgeon...
1542537 tn?1293207098 Hi, broken bones take a varying amount of time to heal, mostly depending upon the type of bone broken, the age of the person, and the way in which the bone is broken. Larger broken bones, for example the bones in the thigh, or both bones of leg would take a great deal longer to heal, usually six weeks to three months in the average healthy adult. Begin physical therapy as soon as is practical. That will help.

Avatar m tn Shoot... sorry for not responding to this earlier. I only JUST saw it. My English-Mastiff (Condi) had bi-lateral TPLO's performed when she was 18 months old. I did her right side first, then after she'd recovered, immediately did the left side. I didn't crate her during the recovery period, which was approximately 10-12 weeks per side, and chose to leash her to the foot of the bed, leaving only about 2 feet of slack in the leash.
Avatar f tn My 12 year old lab/mix had surgery a week ago to repair the severed cruciate ligament in her rear knee. She has not put any weight on the affected leg, and her toes curl ander and drag when she hobbles around on 3 legs. Should she be further along in recovery? I am concerned that the surgery will not be successful. Is this indicative of nerve damage? Is there any thing I can do to help improve outcomes?
Avatar n tn Is he holding the leg up or is he actually dragging the leg? Here's what to do: Stand him up on all four legs...Turn the bad foot under where he's standing on top of the paw....See if he can flip it back to the correct position.....If not: Read further..... This sounds like a disk injury to me......Google IVDD (Intervertabral Disk Disease) and read about it...
774189 tn?1235410421 MY DOG ATTACKED MY CAT TODAY AND MY CAT IS LIMPING BUT SHE STILL WALKS ON HER LEG AND WAS CLEANING HERSELF DO YOU THINK SHES GONNA BE OK?
Avatar f tn My own dog took this after a broken leg and it did her so much good. In damp weather she had started to favour that leg a little sometimes. As soon as she took the Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement, it took about one week to see a great improvement. After that, she had no more trouble with that leg. She weighed 30lbs, and the correct maximum dosage for her was 500mg Glucosamine and 200mg Chondroitin once daily.
Avatar m tn She has been knuckling over periodically - and she seems to try to attempt to flip the leg back over (as in she notices it's not right) but it doesn't seem to bother her. She does adjust her legs and lifts them when getting comfortable on her pillow. I know knuckling is a sign of DM . . . the thing that doesn't seem to be adding up is the "yipe" she let out yesterday before this whole thing began.
1323336 tn?1274712771 I think I will just out wait Sasha, I think she will stop digging when she gets a bit older. I HOPE. She has a broken leg and I thought that with her back leg broken she would not dig. No such luck. Once again thank you.
Avatar m tn She used to limp very slightly on a back leg which was once broken when she was younger. The vet said she would probably grow to develop arthritis in that leg, and it did seem things might be going that way, as any change in the weather to dampness, had her 'hitching' up that leg sometimes. Since starting the Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement, she has not even done that once! My dog weighs 28lbs and the maximum dose for her is 500mg Glucosamine and 200mg Chondroitin.
20790334 tn?1506852360 I was recently in China. When I walked yesterday, I hit a stray dog beside the lower leg. After returning home for a few minutes, I lowered my head and took a sip of my pants. Then I took off my pants and looked at where I was hit. One place is peeled off. I use my nails to peel the skin. It may be rabies now. Should I be vaccinated? PS. When I hit the stray dog, I just thought it hit me, I don't think he bit me .(Because I didn't feel the dog bite me.
1340010 tn?1281960420 No because she just got knocked apparently.. and she has medicine that i have to give her yes. and i have to clean her leg twice a day.but she will be ok. she has a bandage on her leg.
Avatar m tn My dog has allergy and now she developed a black/dark brown thick and rough crust just superficially attached to the skin. It's about 2cm diametre on the leg near the armpit. It is broken on the side and when I try to open slightly, is easy to see that will hurt/bleed. Does anybody could give me some advice?
Avatar f tn Can you determine that the leg isn't broken? Will he let you move the leg at the hip joint? If he isn't acting like he is in severe pain, will eat and drink. I would try keeping him quiet and only take him out to potty. You know your dog best so you would have to make a judgement call as to if he needs the Vet.
Avatar f tn A few of you asked to be updated on the kitty cat I found (or I should, "Who found us!"). We just got back from the vet. He got vaccinated, medication for an infection in his ears, de-wormer stuff, and x-rays. The x-rays showed a BB pellet lodged in the cat's chest, but that isn't something we have to worry about. But I was absolutely livid inside when the vet told me.

Avatar f tn Last night we opened our backdoor to find a stray kitty (adolescent male). I noticed he was malnourished and gave him some milk and chicken (all I had for an animal). Then I noticed he was favoring one leg. I think it might be broken! I've called a few places and no one wants to deal with him, of course. They're just going to want to euthanize him instead of help him. So my question is this--- what do I do?!?!?!?!
675347 tn?1365460645 I can give her a 500mg tablet then, as she is 28lbs. She had a broken back leg about 6 -7 years ago (before she came to live with me) and occasionally it 'twinges' her. Today it did that -she was not as keen to chase the frisbee as she usually is!- and I gave her a homoeopathic remedy Rhus Tox, which seemed to work miracles. I had to run an errand at 2pm, and when I came back at 3.30 the leg didn't seem to be bothering her.
Avatar m tn so my docter did surgery one year later, he took the nail out of my leg and replaced it with a plate and and screws, during surgery he broke my fibula to get the plate in place. i dont no why he did it but my tibia feels alot better and now my fibula is broken, my question is has anyone ever had a corrective surgery on there tibia and had there fibula broken. And how long does it take for the fib to heal and am i screwed ? i dont know what to do.
