Avatar f tn They told me 6 weeks to heal before i get cast off, but i was in a splint style cast for the first week, does that count as one week? and also should nt have the doctor have asked me to come in for check up x-rays just to make sure the bone is healing properly? i live in a small community was treated by a regular doctor a i think.Do u think ill need an aircast after i get regular cast off or is that just optional?
Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar f tn ( that really *****
Avatar n tn I think it is too early to remove the cast in your case. May be you can ask your doctor about plastic cast walker, which is much lighter and allows you to walk to some extent. Once full fracture healing is confirmed by the doctor, rehabilitation can continue with a physiotherapist. Hydrotherapy exercises are very helpful in regaining ankle range of movement. Best.
Avatar m tn t need surgery and my bone was repositioned and i was put in a cast. I had my sixteenth birthday with a cast on my right leg and i have had to cancel my driving test as i can't drive with a cast on. I will be with a full walking cast for another 2 weeks (its been 5) and then i will have a short walking cast for another 3 weeks. How long after that can i drive again and also how long until i play soccer. I will be going to physical therapy.
Avatar f tn I try very hard to limit my movement during the day and keep my foot up but still by about 7pm my discomfort is intense with a very tight cast, pain in the leg and numb toes. Is what I am experiencing normal or should I be concerned?
Avatar m tn they constantly rotated her legs and stretched them out again to check her hips before fracture was dianosed. then they put a cast on on the bottom of her leg instead of the top. would all of these mistakes have made the fracture worse than it originally was.
Avatar m tn She jumped off of a chair and broke her front leg. The vet said the cast would be enough and the surgery is not required. However the x-ray shows that the bones are not aligned perfectly. I understand that he is a professional but I have already had experience with some incompetent vets and cannot rule out this one to be another example. I will probably get an advise from another vet but also want to hear your opinions. Has anyone had the same kind of problem? Here are the x-ray shots.
Avatar m tn Hello, Most often, broken wrists can be treated in a cast. The wrist is one area of your body that is very amenable to cast treatment. As you are young, your surgeon may advise you surgery for this but unlikely. The rule for bone healing in general is to expect a six-week period to ensure proper bone strength. One-two additional weeks of support in a removal plastic splint is generally advised. All the best.
Avatar m tn The Fibula is still broken and has no stability (no hard cast can be applied due to the open wound up the inner side of her leg). Is it normal for the fib not to be stabilized using a fixation or any other means? Also, the Tibia was a crushing fracture; there is a space of just over 2 inches where the bone was crushed. The Ortho Surgeon left the largest pieces of crushed bone in place and said that it would help the bone heal (a ΒΌ inch gap exist between the top and bottom portions of this bone.
Avatar n tn ll need to go in a cast for 6 more weeks. That means before I can walk it will be 9 weeks from the injury date. All for a broken fibula and sprained deltoid ligament. I think the doctor is being extremely conservative, I need to be weight bearing to get back to work. Does this seem like a rather stiff sentence? Shouldn't it be 6 weeks from the injury date assuming normal healing occurs on the bone?
Avatar n tn What treatment did you have for the broken fingers? Splinting with buddy tape? Cast? Stiffness is normal after any injury especially a fracture. If you had proper treatment I would feel comfortable telling you to exercise your hand. Squeeze a rubber ball or silly putty. Do stretches of you fingers pulling them back to just past the point of stiffness then forward. If you didnt' have treatment and a follow up xray to confirm healing, I would get that done first.
Avatar m tn Patients who have a talus fracture have significant ankle pain, difficulty bearing weight on the ankle, and swelling around the ankle joint. If the fracture is not out of position, a simple cast may be sufficient for treatment. If the fracture is out of position, then surgery may be recommended to realign the broken bones, and stabilize them with screws or pins. The calcaneus is the bone in the back of the foot, commonly referred to as the heel bone.
1431839 tn?1290812315 t cast it because of the location (the doc said any cast that could help would have to be a full leg cast and that the rehab would even be longer than not casting it) and that the tibia would act like a cast and it should mend in a few weeks. Weeks went by, but nothing showed the fracture closing.
Avatar f tn I am hoping this will improve once I am fully out of the cast and using the leg/foot regularly. Of more concern is the area around the incision. There is significant sensation loss around the incision and all the way down my leg and into the foot. However, I have sensation deep in the leg, and it remains very sensitive to any touch/pressure, even though the surface skin still cannot feel the contact. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn In 2007 I badly broke my leg (my toes were touching my knee bad), I was in a cast for almost my entire seventh grade year and for the first four or so months I had to be in a wheelchair with the cast up to my thigh. I started to be able to move around really well after the first month and about two or so months before they put me in a boot i was able to jump around my house on one leg for very long distances and then eventually walk around on my cast.

Now he is shivering, hot/cold, running a fever and the leg is hot to the touch and he complains the back of the knee is increasing in pain even with ibprofen. ER tonigt or wit for morning and call orthopedist?
Avatar f tn I had a cast for 7 weeks (non-walking) and the first week without a cast I was not allowed to walk. Now I am allowed to walk, but only on 20% of my body weight and I have an ankle brace. I would like to ask, when approximately I will be able to walk without my crutches and be able to do some sports?
Avatar m tn I was told these breaks are pretty serious and if not taken care of you can end up with pain for the rest of your life and have a walking cane.. I dont think you want a brace on your leg so tight it hurts.. You need a soft cast with some room for the swelling. keep it elevated!!!!
Avatar f tn I broke my wrist {still in hard cast} 2 weeks ago, had carpal tunnel surgery for severe case on same wrist 9 mos ago, am I in trouble? The surgery seemed sucessful pain reallly diminished but had not yet recovered all feeelings in fingers which was supposed to take quite a bit more time.
Avatar n tn s been in a half cast for 2 months. That arm has excessive hair growing on the broken area...is this because of the tensor/fiberglass cast covering or a result of the surgery and the plate being in my arm? Is there anything I can do to reduce the hair growth?
