Avatar f tn They told me 6 weeks to heal before i get cast off, but i was in a splint style cast for the first week, does that count as one week? and also should nt have the doctor have asked me to come in for check up x-rays just to make sure the bone is healing properly? i live in a small community was treated by a regular doctor a i think.Do u think ill need an aircast after i get regular cast off or is that just optional?
Avatar n tn I think it is too early to remove the cast in your case. May be you can ask your doctor about plastic cast walker, which is much lighter and allows you to walk to some extent. Once full fracture healing is confirmed by the doctor, rehabilitation can continue with a physiotherapist. Hydrotherapy exercises are very helpful in regaining ankle range of movement. Best.
Avatar m tn hi i broke my tibia and fibula waited almost 3 weeks for surgery cause it was swollen got screws and a plate they put me in a splint a week later i took the splint off i hated it now i have a follow up appt which they will put a full cast but i dont want it
Avatar f tn I fractured the lower part of my fibula near the growth plate one week ago, and was in a Splint for 3 days.

Avatar n tn I broken my wrist in december. I had 3 K-wires inserted and was in a cast for nearly 6 weeks. I now have tha cast removed, and has surgery to have the k wires removed. I will be starting physio next week - my question is how long before I can return to work, I am left handed and its my left wrist I broke. I wok in the food & beverage department in a hotel so I will be using my wrist constantly.
Avatar n tn I was in a splint the first week, a short leg cast for the 3 weeks, and got an x-ray/check up earlier today. My dr called this afternoon and said the fib fracture and the tib stress fractures are not healing and said there may be too much movement going on. He wants me to come back tomorrow for a long leg cast. Why would he stick me in a long leg cast for a fracture on the bottom half of my leg?
Avatar m tn Hello, Most often, broken wrists can be treated in a cast. The wrist is one area of your body that is very amenable to cast treatment. As you are young, your surgeon may advise you surgery for this but unlikely. The rule for bone healing in general is to expect a six-week period to ensure proper bone strength. One-two additional weeks of support in a removal plastic splint is generally advised. All the best.
Avatar f tn My husband is worried about the poss. of surgery. His leg is now in a splint up to his thigh. The break was a clean break strait across in about the mid section of his leg. He of course is in pain. The only time i allow him to get up is when he goes to the restroom and he has not put any weight on it at all since he broke it. One question is when he does let the leg drop as he walks on the crutches his foot turns a blue color is there a problem with that??
Avatar m tn After I found out that it was broken I got a cast for 3weeks, then I have been wearing a splint for 3weeks. When I first hurt my wrist Very small red dots began to appear around wear I broke my wrist and up my arm. There are about 30 of them below my thumb and they begin to spread out as they move up my arm. I thought the red dots ment that my wrist is broken. Does this mean my wrist is still broken? If, not what do the dots mean.
Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar m tn I was told these breaks are pretty serious and if not taken care of you can end up with pain for the rest of your life and have a walking cane.. I dont think you want a brace on your leg so tight it hurts.. You need a soft cast with some room for the swelling. keep it elevated!!!!
Avatar f tn ( that really *****
Avatar n tn Fell down steps landing on rough concrete. Have a temporary splint and wrap. Recently retired and no Ins yet. I believe I could form cast. Will I do more harm than good? Help!! Foot has turned black and still extremely swollen even with ice and elevation. Other side of ankle extremely painful but shows no break on xrays.
Avatar f tn I was told by the specialist that i have snapped the ligaments and my leg was to be in a cast from thigh to ankle for 6 weeks before physio started if the ligaments healed, if they didnt heal i would need surgery to put fake ones in. When i got home the cast had slipped and i hadnt got the notes sent through so i went up to A & E to see what they said and they have changed me to a leg brace.
525545 tn?1293181194 Treatment of an acute Jones fracture that is not significantly displaced consists of a cast, splint or walking boot for 4-8 weeks. In case of non healing cast can remain for about 20 weeks. A Jones fracture often does not heal for several reasons. This location is an area of poor blood supply. In addition there are various tendons attaching in the area pulling the fracture apart causing motion at the site of healing If it is not healing then surgical treatment can be taken up.
Avatar f tn I broke my finger, may 30th,middle one at the knuckle, went to the E R they xrayed and set it,splint etc. then went to my family doc...told me three more weeks if not better then orthopedic phys. The thing is the swelling is taking so long to go down, it has gone down some but i am concerned...am I looking at surgery or is it to soon to tell ? And should I just go to the orthopedic phys. now or chill and wait ?
Avatar m tn It was missed in the first x-ray then two weeks later put in a cast. It was in a cast for a total of six weeks then a soft removable splint was recommended for four weeks. Below is a review of the x-rays. I am wondering, based on the x-ray reviews, if it was appropriate that the cast was removed on 30/10/09 and treated with a splint, or was my scaphoid doomed to progress to non-union irrespective of treatment.
Avatar m tn t need surgery and my bone was repositioned and i was put in a cast. I had my sixteenth birthday with a cast on my right leg and i have had to cancel my driving test as i can't drive with a cast on. I will be with a full walking cast for another 2 weeks (its been 5) and then i will have a short walking cast for another 3 weeks. How long after that can i drive again and also how long until i play soccer. I will be going to physical therapy.
Avatar n tn I was run over by a car 10 months ago and suffered a broken left fibula in two places and tibula. I was treated for the broken leg and the bones have healed. However, I was never treated or examined for any other possible injuries. Upon getting hit my lower body from the waist down had gone completely numb but feeling returned within a few hours after the accident. I have been suffering from neuropathy in my feet, hands and knees along with phantom muscle and joint pain daily.
Avatar f tn Yesterday at her 3 week appointment, they removed the cast and said it was healed enough. This was not a hairline fracture, but a complete break through both bones. I saw the last xray. I could see where the one bone (smaller one) was straight. The break could still be seen, but you could see the new bone growth (very faintly) as well. The larger bone was NOT straight. You could also see new bone growth.
Avatar f tn I try very hard to limit my movement during the day and keep my foot up but still by about 7pm my discomfort is intense with a very tight cast, pain in the leg and numb toes. Is what I am experiencing normal or should I be concerned?
463897 tn?1468013750 Hand therapy and another 4wks of immobilizing splint . still had pain, now 3wks with no splint. Whole hand still swells almost as bad as when injured initially, cortisone shot didn't help, therapy no help. Saw Dr today. Discussed going ahead with surgery to release the sheath. Sending me to another Dr in his office to get second opinion. What are your thoughts? What can I expect if I have surgery and recovery? Another cast? Pain? Thank you so much for your time!
Avatar m tn they constantly rotated her legs and stretched them out again to check her hips before fracture was dianosed. then they put a cast on on the bottom of her leg instead of the top. would all of these mistakes have made the fracture worse than it originally was.
