Avatar m tn t need surgery and my bone was repositioned and i was put in a cast. I had my sixteenth birthday with a cast on my right leg and i have had to cancel my driving test as i can't drive with a cast on. I will be with a full walking cast for another 2 weeks (its been 5) and then i will have a short walking cast for another 3 weeks. How long after that can i drive again and also how long until i play soccer. I will be going to physical therapy.
Avatar f tn I try very hard to limit my movement during the day and keep my foot up but still by about 7pm my discomfort is intense with a very tight cast, pain in the leg and numb toes. Is what I am experiencing normal or should I be concerned?
Avatar m tn She jumped off of a chair and broke her front leg. The vet said the cast would be enough and the surgery is not required. However the x-ray shows that the bones are not aligned perfectly. I understand that he is a professional but I have already had experience with some incompetent vets and cannot rule out this one to be another example. I will probably get an advise from another vet but also want to hear your opinions. Has anyone had the same kind of problem? Here are the x-ray shots.
Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar f tn ( that really *****
Avatar f tn They told me 6 weeks to heal before i get cast off, but i was in a splint style cast for the first week, does that count as one week? and also should nt have the doctor have asked me to come in for check up x-rays just to make sure the bone is healing properly? i live in a small community was treated by a regular doctor a i think.Do u think ill need an aircast after i get regular cast off or is that just optional?
Avatar m tn I broke my fibula in two places above my ankle and the mallelor of my tibula. I had surgery three weeks ago. One week after my surgery, they removed the "soft" cast and put me in a boot with crutches and compression socks to help with the swelling. For those above who were asking about swelling - I believe you can buy these socks at any pharmacy. They also recommended to ice the surgical area..as well to keep any swelling down.
Avatar n tn I think it is too early to remove the cast in your case. May be you can ask your doctor about plastic cast walker, which is much lighter and allows you to walk to some extent. Once full fracture healing is confirmed by the doctor, rehabilitation can continue with a physiotherapist. Hydrotherapy exercises are very helpful in regaining ankle range of movement. Best.
Avatar n tn I am very concerned about the mobility of my hand after the pins come out. Next week is my surgery to have them removed. At four weeks after surgery my cast ( casted from just below my elbow to the tips of all my fingers) was removed and my hand is still very swollen and my fingers wouldn't move at all. I couldn't even flatten out my hand. They put me back in a cast until my surgery. I have a feeling this is going to be a long recovery...anybody have any idea at all what I could excpect?
Avatar n tn Im 19 years old, broke my tibia and fibia when i was 15 racing motocross, i was put in a cast, but i had broken my tibia again inside the cast as it was trying to heal, so my doctor suggested putting it back in the cast or trying a intramedullary rod surgery for guranteed results. So we had the surgery, now a couple years down the road im very much regreting the surgery, i have pain from time to time in my leg and where the screw is at.

Avatar m tn Hi, Firstly thank you for your time and I will make this as short as possible for you. 10 weeks ago my friends 74 year old father who lost a leg to an alement over a year ago was run down in a hit and run while crossing the road in his electric wheelchair. He broke his leg in 2 places, plus lost a sizeable chunk of flesh from the front of his lower leg.
Avatar m tn The Fibula is still broken and has no stability (no hard cast can be applied due to the open wound up the inner side of her leg). Is it normal for the fib not to be stabilized using a fixation or any other means? Also, the Tibia was a crushing fracture; there is a space of just over 2 inches where the bone was crushed. The Ortho Surgeon left the largest pieces of crushed bone in place and said that it would help the bone heal (a ΒΌ inch gap exist between the top and bottom portions of this bone.
Avatar n tn s been in a half cast for 2 months. That arm has excessive hair growing on the broken area...is this because of the tensor/fiberglass cast covering or a result of the surgery and the plate being in my arm? Is there anything I can do to reduce the hair growth?
Avatar m tn they constantly rotated her legs and stretched them out again to check her hips before fracture was dianosed. then they put a cast on on the bottom of her leg instead of the top. would all of these mistakes have made the fracture worse than it originally was.
Avatar n tn I had it x-rayed about 1 year ago after a spell of aching. The orthopedist said I could have the rod removed but advised against it. Recently it has started to ache quite a bit. I did drive about 600 miles with few stops and that night it ached almost as much as the night I originally broke it and before the cast was put on. I can hardly put weight on it at times. It also seems to ache more after I have walked on soft or hilly ground.
Avatar f tn The application of a cast means that immobilization of the limb is required till the time the cast is removed, to promote healing of the fracture which may take 4-6 weeks. Trying to move the limb unnecessarily may cause fracture displacement and improper healing. Casting does not heal the fracture immediately but just provides support and immobilization required for natural healing.
Avatar f tn The doctor told me today I should have recovered 4 weeks after the cast removed. However it has been 9 weeks since the cast has been removed and its barely better. I am confused, does the MRI results tell me what the problem is, how severe and how long recovery time is likely to be? I asked the doctor and he said that they still do not know what is causing me the pain. I have a follow up appointment in 4 weeks when if there is no improvement the doctor has suggested 2 options.
1431839 tn?1290812315 t cast it because of the location (the doc said any cast that could help would have to be a full leg cast and that the rehab would even be longer than not casting it) and that the tibia would act like a cast and it should mend in a few weeks. Weeks went by, but nothing showed the fracture closing.
Avatar n tn ll need to go in a cast for 6 more weeks. That means before I can walk it will be 9 weeks from the injury date. All for a broken fibula and sprained deltoid ligament. I think the doctor is being extremely conservative, I need to be weight bearing to get back to work. Does this seem like a rather stiff sentence? Shouldn't it be 6 weeks from the injury date assuming normal healing occurs on the bone?
Avatar n tn I now have tha cast removed, and has surgery to have the k wires removed. I will be starting physio next week - my question is how long before I can return to work, I am left handed and its my left wrist I broke. I wok in the food & beverage department in a hotel so I will be using my wrist constantly.
Avatar m tn So later that day I get a cast on. All the doctor did was just squeeze the broken spot around very softly and then just put a cast on (using those plaster of paris type of substances). It was a half cast - just the palm side was casted upto the elbow. It took around a week or two before the doctor removed that and put a fullcast on. And after a few more weeks the doctor took that cast off and said I was free to go.
Avatar m tn I had been prescribed P.T. right after being removed from cast, however could not weight bear, anyway, as was too painful. I have a slight joint involvement. My calcaneous is slightly flattened, but not grossly so. I can walk and I am now in P.T. 2-3 times a week. Every part of my body has hurt at one time or the other. I am trying to get the flexibility back to my foot, but I still experience swelling.
Avatar n tn I broke my right ankle in January. I had a long leg cast applied at first, but the fibia separated when the swelling went down. The doctor had me go in for surgery and I had to have a plate and pins put in. That was done on Valentine's Day. When the staples were removed, he had me in a boot, so that I could bath. I had an appointment today and he wants me to start walking on the foot and doing some exercises to strengthen and help with the mobility of my ankle.
