Avatar f tn im having a four corner wrist fusion done on tuesday how long will i be in plaster havent been told any thing about it
Avatar f tn When just the tip is involved, is there any merit in wearing a hefty plaster cast 24/7? Most advice seems to be that I will have to expect a cast, but, as no bones have been broken, is it really necessary to wear it? - Not least, during the day?
Avatar n tn s been in a half cast for 2 months. That arm has excessive hair growing on the broken area...is this because of the tensor/fiberglass cast covering or a result of the surgery and the plate being in my arm? Is there anything I can do to reduce the hair growth?
Avatar m tn It depends it can be anything from wearing a special leg and ankle brace or plaster cast up to surgery for severe cases.
Avatar m tn Its possible you were put in a "back slab" cast which is soft on one side. This was done to my broken wrist to allow for swelling immediatey after the accident. I then was called back to have a full fibreglass cast on after ten days or so. The reason for going back for the full cast is that as the swelling reduces the cast then may become too lose to support the bones and thus could allow for poor healing.
Avatar m tn All the doctor did was just squeeze the broken spot around very softly and then just put a cast on (using those plaster of paris type of substances). It was a half cast - just the palm side was casted upto the elbow. It took around a week or two before the doctor removed that and put a fullcast on. And after a few more weeks the doctor took that cast off and said I was free to go.
Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar f tn ( that really *****
Avatar f tn Its the same kind of technique thats use for a broken arm of leg. Plaster is used to mould and shape your belly with plastic covering on the first layer to protect your skin. I think its mostly done in the third trimester as your bump is more of a shape.
Avatar f tn I was advised by the dr to take the boot off for 1 hour a day after 4 weeks, i have done this and it really hurts, does this mean it is mending or should I put the boot back on, several people have told me that i may have to have a plaster cast on if this does not heal when i go back, or even worse they may have to operate to remove the chipped bones, the thing that worries me that when i first had it xrayed they said i had one chipped bone and when i went back in a week they said i had 2 how co
Avatar f tn Hi there Tomcat, i fractured my talus bone, as well as dislocated my ankle 15 weeks ago. I was in plaster cast for 2 weeks, and then two fibreglass casts for 3 weeks each, and now have the cam walker boot, which ive had for 7 weeks now which was great to get, now can bath my foot and have seen an increase in the look/feel since i can remove the boot from time to time.
Avatar f tn They told me 6 weeks to heal before i get cast off, but i was in a splint style cast for the first week, does that count as one week? and also should nt have the doctor have asked me to come in for check up x-rays just to make sure the bone is healing properly? i live in a small community was treated by a regular doctor a i think.Do u think ill need an aircast after i get regular cast off or is that just optional?
Avatar f tn I have always been in good health and have no history of clots etc. I also do not have a plaster cast. Does anyone had any advice?
Avatar n tn Well this is off topic, but I broke my tibia while horseback riding, tonight i was showering and water leaked through my cast and collected at my heel. Im worried it wont be able to support my tibia. Im kinda freaked out, and need to know if it will be ok. It drenched, like how u get water in your shoes and it squishes? Thats what mine is doing. If u have any advice please let me know!
Avatar n tn I think it is too early to remove the cast in your case. May be you can ask your doctor about plastic cast walker, which is much lighter and allows you to walk to some extent. Once full fracture healing is confirmed by the doctor, rehabilitation can continue with a physiotherapist. Hydrotherapy exercises are very helpful in regaining ankle range of movement. Best.
Avatar m tn I have a hard plaster cast on my leg for a partial Achilles tendon rupture. I was told by the Orthopedic that I have to wear it for 3 months, but he never fully explained how wearing the cast would help heal my leg or why I have to wear it. However, he did state that I would have to have a new cast put on every month. He treated me very poorly and I refuse to go back to him! My questions are: 1. How imperative is it to have the hard plaster cast replaced? 2.
Avatar m tn t need surgery and my bone was repositioned and i was put in a cast. I had my sixteenth birthday with a cast on my right leg and i have had to cancel my driving test as i can't drive with a cast on. I will be with a full walking cast for another 2 weeks (its been 5) and then i will have a short walking cast for another 3 weeks. How long after that can i drive again and also how long until i play soccer. I will be going to physical therapy.
Avatar f tn My belly cast came in the mail today. Are you guys doing that too? I thought it was a fun idea so I bought it but now I don't really know what I'm going to do with a plaster molding of my huge pregnant stomach. Any ideas?
499151 tn?1235359642 amount of time for no weight bearing, use of cast/splints,crutches, etc. At this point, I am able to be out of the cast (removable air cast) when I am at home, inside, but wear it outside and when using stairs, etc.Still using the bone stimulator. Most recent x-rays showed healing beginning, but I am nervous that this non-union business may re-occur.
Avatar m tn Normally immobilization with a plaster cast for a short time is prescribed for such a fracture. The x-rays are often inconclusive. If there is no cast elevation and a rubbing of a cortisone cream on the foot will help. In the case of such injuries the idea is to avoid the swelling by an immediate wrap with an elastic bandage wrapped circumferentially and overlapping snugly, but not too tight. Once the swelling takes place it's hard to get it down.
488264 tn?1226520307 I have no ability still to either point or flex my foot, am worried the damage is permanent. Hope they get me physiotherapy when my leg is out of plaster. It's bound to have some muscle wasting on top. Getting smaller every day. Skinny limbs such as haven't been since I was a teenager. Evokes a lot of pity though. How come no-one was sorry for me when I was lurching with a cane and fat? Is harder to walk with more weight!
Avatar f tn I try very hard to limit my movement during the day and keep my foot up but still by about 7pm my discomfort is intense with a very tight cast, pain in the leg and numb toes. Is what I am experiencing normal or should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn I was told by the specialist that i have snapped the ligaments and my leg was to be in a cast from thigh to ankle for 6 weeks before physio started if the ligaments healed, if they didnt heal i would need surgery to put fake ones in. When i got home the cast had slipped and i hadnt got the notes sent through so i went up to A & E to see what they said and they have changed me to a leg brace.
Avatar m tn they constantly rotated her legs and stretched them out again to check her hips before fracture was dianosed. then they put a cast on on the bottom of her leg instead of the top. would all of these mistakes have made the fracture worse than it originally was.
