Boniva vs zometa

Common Questions and Answers about Boniva vs zometa

boniva

Avatar f tn I have IDC, Triple Negative, however, less than 1% ER is positive, 5% PR weakly positive and HER2 negative. Will I benefit from Aridimex/Zometa? Before cancer, my blood tests revealed low estrogen levels >20, whereas it should have been >41. Is there a possibility that by taking Aridimex, I am allowing the cancer to recur. I have just finished dose dense chemo for 8 rounds, and will be doing radiation in a couple weeks.
Avatar f tn I underwent a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiation and I am currently taking Tamoxifen. My oncologist is encouraging me to have Zometa infusions (once every 6 months for 3 years) based on the research from the 2008 trials that suggest that Zometa will reduce the recurrence of cancer and help with preventing bone loss in premenopausal women (study followed women who did not have chemotherapy). Are there any more studies that have confirmed the benefits of Zometa?
Avatar f tn Is boniva a possible cause of papilloma virus on the eyelid going into the conjunctiva? This discussion is related to uveitis of the eye caused by Boniva.
Avatar f tn Bisphosphonates like Boniva have been associated rarely with uveitis. You would experience ocular pain, blurred vision, light sensitivity, loss of vision and possibly glaucoma if you had uveitis. Your ophthalmologist would be able to tell you right away if you had any uveitis and the Boniva could be discontinued if that were the case.
Avatar n tn Does Arimidex have to actually kill you vs. maiming you for life, in order to be pulled off the market? At 58, I may need a hip replacement because I took Arimidex for two years! DeeDee This discussion is related to Arimidex Long Term Side Effects.
Avatar f tn I noted that for the last several months whenever I took Boniva I had significant swelling under both eyes. Thus, when this past Sunday, 5/23 I developed the papilloma on my left lower eyelid (center) which at first seemed to have a point on top & next day became more elongated I thought Boniva. I would appreciate any feedback as to cause & what possible treatment. It, not very large & seems to be same size this first week.

Avatar f tn What might be my chances of a distant metastasis? I have pre-osteopenia per a bone density. My oncologist said I might consider Zometa infusions which would be given every 6 months. Does it only help prevent bone metastasis or other mets as well? I know the research is still out on this but an early study indicated a greater than 30% reduction in risk of bone mets. That seems substantial.
Avatar f tn The technician looked at my med list and asked if I am taking Boniva and Synthroid. I answered yes. I take other meds other than those two she mentioned. I told her that I understood why she asked about the Boniva but I didn't understand why she asked about Synthroid. She told me that thyroid meds take from the bones and causes osteoporosis. WHAT??? How come no doctor ever told me?
Avatar f tn I developed osteoporosis (only 52) and my gyno-onc had me see an endocrinologist. I now take Boniva- once monthly plus a mult-vit, calcium, and vit-D twice a day. My last scan showed improvement. He wanted me to go on hormone replacement but my gyno-onc would not hear of it.
Avatar f tn extremely swollen right leg especially around knee joint - could not even bend knee, terrible hip pain and two days later a tooth abscess. What are the chances I can tolerate Boniva once a month? My Endocrinologist wants me to try it.
Avatar n tn I have had very little problems with Prolia. I've done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis.
Avatar n tn She does not have any cramping, but they are watery. This all started when she began to take Boniva several months ago. She stopped taking it 2 months ago. I have suggested that it has not all left her system yet and this may take some time. She has not changed her diet or any meds. She is a creature of habit and eats and does the same things every day. She is 90 yrs old and still very able and mobile.
Avatar m tn But her bone density tests (I think) are fine. One physican gave her Synthroid, another told her to stop. One perscribed Boniva, another said no, cause she is a young lady. Here are her labs. Any comments? Bone Marker Tests: TP1NP: 26.57 (Range: 20.00 to 100.0 ng/ml) Vitamins D: 42.27 (Range: 50.00 to 100.0 nmol/l) Osteocalcin: 19.49 (Range: 11.00 to 43.00 ng/ml) B-CTx: . 265 (Range: ???) Parathormone: 30.02 (Range: 15.00 to 65.00 pg/ml) Calsium 2.
Avatar n tn in order to treat osteo you need to be on fosmax/ boniva or like substances and have hrt. your doctor you should sue.... because he perscribed it while having the knowledge of your bone health knowing it decreases the amount of calcium in your bones.
Avatar f tn I was taking the hormones to help my bones, as I have osteopenia and rheumatoid arthritis. I am on prescription drugs to help the bones (Boniva and calcium and vit. d). I'm worried about breast cancer with continuing the hormones. I had a partial mastectomy on my right breast which was benign. I had a cluster of microcalcifications which looked supicious, but turned out to be benign (big sigh)! Okay now my question.
Avatar f tn I cannot take the Boniva that has been prescribed for me as I also have Gastroparesis. I only take Lipitor right now. I was on Tapezole for 4 years because I also have Graves Disease.
479581 tn?1317757488 My mom had Grave's and thyroid surgery in the '60s and has been on synthroid ever since. I don't know the dosage. She recently had a TSH of 0.03 (0.3 - 3 range) and no other tests. She doesn't have high blood pressure or high cholesterol. She has a zometa infusion monthly for osteoporosis. She has breast cancer and is having chemo treatments at the present time. She only asked the oncologist for the TSH test because I insisted and doesn't plan to follow up with an endo.
Avatar f tn Also forgot to mention that last December my gyno put me on Boniva as according to my last two dexascans my numbers have dropped drastically. I am very worried about taking the Boniva. The first week after I take it I feel like I am coming down with the flu. Can all these issues be related to the thyroid?
Avatar n tn They are given generally prescribed orally and include Fosamax, Actonel and Boniva. They can cause some severe stomach distress as they did for my father. When this happens there are injectable forms of bisphosphonates. Ibandronate (Boniva injection) is injected into your vein once every three months, and zoledronic acid (Reclast) is injected once a year. If approved by your physician these treatments do not cause stomach distress and you do not have to remember to take a tablet.
Avatar f tn I also have been receiving zometa IV for the past 3 yrs with minimal pain relief and this year the main researcher [National Institute of Health] of my disease, fibrous dysplasia (FD), said that they no longer believe zometa to be effective treatment for FD, which was used with the goal of helping to decrease the bone pain. So we with FD are back to nothing but analgesics. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn And I was taking Herceptin every 3 weeks throughout. I will be finishing Herceptin either at the end of Nov. or Dec. I also take Zometa, an osteoporosis drug, every 3 mos. as part of a study to see if these drugs help keep breast cancer from returning as bone cancer, and tamoxifen, as a daily pill. I think that you will experience very little side effects once you are only taking herceptin. I have no fatigue or weakness from it.
Avatar f tn Hello. I'm sorry, first of all, that your mom is having the sleeping problems. In the end, that affects every day because without a decent sleep, it is hard to function. I liked the honey and milk and that solution as it sounds nice and natural which I wish everything could be to help all of us with medical issues. However........just in case it does not work........I would suggest that first of all, mom has a COMPLETE workup with blood tests, urine tests, etc.
Avatar f tn Still taking Herceptin, Zometa and Tamoxifen. Leg, arm and underarm hair grew back enough to shave sometime in June-July. (I wasn't checking that closely as I was following the progress of the hair on my head more avidly.) B. C. (before chemo) I shaved every day if I wore a dress or sleeveless blouse. Now it is about a week between shavings and it is still sparse growth. Nothing to be worried about that I can tell, rejoice that you need not shave so often.
294425 tn?1288528395 I need to go on either IV Boniva or Reclast (too advanced for any of the pills to be useful) - anyone know anything about either of them? I am now having to use my cane pretty much whenever I am out of the house, cause my balance is extra bad lately, and I simply can't risk breaking a hip and having to rehab in a nursing home right now. I just wasn't ready to cross that threshold yet emotionally, you know? But I am trying to be a big girl about it, and just move on.
