Common Questions and Answers about Boniva trach

boniva

Avatar f tn Is boniva a possible cause of papilloma virus on the eyelid going into the conjunctiva? This discussion is related to uveitis of the eye caused by Boniva.
Avatar f tn Bisphosphonates like Boniva have been associated rarely with uveitis. You would experience ocular pain, blurred vision, light sensitivity, loss of vision and possibly glaucoma if you had uveitis. Your ophthalmologist would be able to tell you right away if you had any uveitis and the Boniva could be discontinued if that were the case.
Avatar f tn I noted that for the last several months whenever I took Boniva I had significant swelling under both eyes. Thus, when this past Sunday, 5/23 I developed the papilloma on my left lower eyelid (center) which at first seemed to have a point on top & next day became more elongated I thought Boniva. I would appreciate any feedback as to cause & what possible treatment. It, not very large & seems to be same size this first week.
Avatar n tn He has repeatedly requested the Trach be removed. His cancer is now stable but the Drs. have refused to remove the trach due to a questionable possibility of a paralyzed or weakened vocal chord and their belief that eventually the trach would benefit him with suction somewhere down the road. He is able to speak, eat comfort foods. Please inform how I can have my husband's wishes followed.

Avatar f tn I had an emergency trach for 4 weeks - it was removed 2 weeks ago. Since then I have really great days and then days where breathing seems labored. I was on steroids but am now weaning off of those. It is especially bothersome at night - I try to sleep lying down and sometimes can then other nights I sleep upright in a recliner. Some days my voice is strong, almost normal and others it goes right back to being weak. What is a normal recup time from a trach? Does this sound normal?
Avatar m tn what is the procedure to do a npsg on a trach patient with an open trach. and how would you do a bipap study after the npsg is finished?. What are the contraindicaions for this procedure and can it be done in a sleep center not a hospital?
Avatar f tn Is there anyone living with a tracheostomy? I have trach due to bilateral vocal chord paralysis when they removed cancer and my thyroid a year and a half ago. I have had the trach since August of 2008.
Avatar f tn t at risk for pseudomonas or trichomonas from their trach. If their trach secretions tend to fly out a lot, make sure you are using goggles when suctioning them. Same with it also helps protect you from mrsa too. if you are caring for someone in their home, make sure they are doing all the cleaning and proper laundering that needs done to prevent mrsa from being transmitted in a household.
Avatar f tn My brother had a neck surgery last year, requiring a tracheotomy for over ten months. The trach tube was removed, and he was told due that, due to his age and diabetes and how long he had the trach, it might take a month or more for the stoma to heal over. Four months later, it shows no signs of closing. It is like the earring hole in your ears, basically permanent, as far as I can see. What can be done? Can it be debrided or facilitated surgically somehow?
Avatar f tn Hello, My father had a massive brain hemorrhage four months ago due to hypertension. Surgery was performed on his left brain to remove the massive hematoma. A trach tube was inserted to help him breath. My father weaned off the ventilator in about three weeks after the surgery and he was shifted to a room from the ICU.
Avatar f tn He was very active and independent before he suffered a TBI a year ago. A trach was installed and he was put on full vent support for three months, then he was on partial vent support for 5 months. During this period, his oxygen saturation was in mid to high 90’s. At the end of February, 2011, he was off the ventilator completely for more than two weeks, breathing with just his open trach to room air without any type of HMEs (Heat and Moisture Exchange devises).
1580703 tn?1651904887 m starting to sleep more after trach 21 days ago. I was exhausted after the operation even more than w/o trach. The shiley 6 is too small and gets clogged with blood and mucus and I don't use the inner cannula so I can get more air. I'm a large person and already can't exhale well because of asthma. is a size 6 going to lower my O2?? trach does reduce breathing effort and improve blood gas exchange? but I was still light-headed and tired for weeks.
Avatar f tn The technician looked at my med list and asked if I am taking Boniva and Synthroid. I answered yes. I take other meds other than those two she mentioned. I told her that I understood why she asked about the Boniva but I didn't understand why she asked about Synthroid. She told me that thyroid meds take from the bones and causes osteoporosis. WHAT??? How come no doctor ever told me?
Avatar n tn i have a trach and find i need to humidify a lot i have a nebulizer and use saline it keeps trach tube clear ,its not good to use suction a lot best to keep inner tube clean and humidifiy.

Avatar f tn I developed osteoporosis (only 52) and my gyno-onc had me see an endocrinologist. I now take Boniva- once monthly plus a mult-vit, calcium, and vit-D twice a day. My last scan showed improvement. He wanted me to go on hormone replacement but my gyno-onc would not hear of it.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I had tracheotomy done and was wondering if it is really a great treatment for asthma and sleep apnea. I could exhale better on the trach a shiley 6 and my blood O2 levels were good but I was dizzy and exhausted for 1 month after the surgery. the vertigo went away after a course of prednisone in the month after the surgery I couldn't sleep well or for long hours. In the beginning I also had a hard time learning new words/thinking quickly- I began to question the surgery.
932747 tn?1247616635 Surgeon says that it is very possible that I may wake up with a trach. My goiter is extremly large and has also grown substernal. The goiter is pushing my trach way of to the side of my neck, and has made my trachea "smooshy." I guess my trachea is compressed at least 50%. They are also talking about a sternal incision. I would love to hear from someone else that has/had a substernal goiter, or problems with their trachea after surgery.
Avatar f tn extremely swollen right leg especially around knee joint - could not even bend knee, terrible hip pain and two days later a tooth abscess. What are the chances I can tolerate Boniva once a month? My Endocrinologist wants me to try it.
Avatar n tn I have had very little problems with Prolia. I've done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis.
793533 tn?1237239998 As a result of the first surgery, her whole body shut down and she was on a vent for 2 months, she had a trach to help her breathe. When they tried to remove the trach, it wouldn't come out. They then pulled harder and got it out. Ever since that time, she has trouble swallowing (on thick liquids), her voice is raspy and she is on Synthroid. Her diag. is Hyperthyroidism. Her TSH's were normal prior to surgery. After they pulled the trach out, her TSH was over 99.0!!!
Avatar f tn I had a trach due to emergency situation for about 4 weeks. It was removed 2 weeks ago. Since then I have trouble with shortness of breath when lying down. It comes on worse in the evening when going to sleep even if I am partiallly sitting up in a chair. The best way to describe it is a smothering type affect but I can still breathe. It seems to be worse when nose breathing. Also some mornings I awake with a weak voice and some days a pretty strong voice.
