1026267 tn?1257591273 Care should be taken when taking medications for osteoporosis, as there can be adverse side effects and some dental work should not be performed while on it. I have had osteopenia for many years, and my latest bone scan shows that I've actually rebuilt bone, by implementing a regimen of calcium (1200 mg/day, taken twice daily - I take it at noon and 6:00 pm to prevent conflict with my thyroid med), magnesium (200 mg/day, taken at bedtime, moderate exercise.
Avatar n tn Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis. I have thought about this long and hard since getting my DEXA result.
Avatar n tn for the treatment of Osteoporosis and all have some value. One with a similar name (Boniva) is used quite often and is said to have good results. Since we deal strictly with Breast Cancer issues on this Community you might look at the top of the page under "Health Information" where you will find a subtitle "Osteoporosis" and post there or read other posts and comments. Avatar f tn I cannot take the Boniva that has been prescribed for me as I also have Gastroparesis. I only take Lipitor right now. I was on Tapezole for 4 years because I also have Graves Disease.
Avatar n tn HOW CAN I SUE DEPO PROVERA WHICH I WAS ON FOR 8 YEARS AND BY AGE 25 I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE OSTEOPOROSIS AND I AM 29 NOW AND CONTINUE TO BREAK BONES IN JUST SIMPLE ACTIVITIES. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND CANT FIND ANY ONE TO TAKE THE CASE?
294425 tn?1288528395 Hi, Rita. I don't have osteoporosis, but I do have osteopenia (less than 2.5 standard deviations off). Have been treating this for many years, first with Boniva, then with Reclast. I'm way overdue for another Reclast infusion. For the last one, I didn't feel great for a day or so afterwards, but it wasn't all that bad either. I really doubt that this has anything to do with MS meds. It's largely hereditary, but aside from that, who knows?
Avatar f tn I developed osteoporosis (only 52) and my gyno-onc had me see an endocrinologist. I now take Boniva- once monthly plus a mult-vit, calcium, and vit-D twice a day. My last scan showed improvement. He wanted me to go on hormone replacement but my gyno-onc would not hear of it.
Avatar f tn I just went for a Dexa-Scan for my Osteoporsis. The technician looked at my med list and asked if I am taking Boniva and Synthroid. I answered yes. I take other meds other than those two she mentioned. I told her that I understood why she asked about the Boniva but I didn't understand why she asked about Synthroid. She told me that thyroid meds take from the bones and causes osteoporosis. WHAT??? How come no doctor ever told me?
Avatar n tn I have had osteopenia for many years; I have been able to rebuild my bone density by taking calcium and magnesium, but if you've already been diagnosed with osteoporosis, you might need to go on a med specifically for that. What is your current thyroid status?
Avatar f tn I have been on Boniva for bone helath for about two years. I heard yesterday that Boniva would cause eye disorders called uveitis and sleraderma? Does this bone medicine cause eye problems? I have an eye disorder called Fuchs cornea dystrophy and have recently had cataract surgery in both eyes ;however one eye keeps feeling irritated.
Avatar f tn 'I already have osteoporosis.' - then do what you need for it 100% Synthroid - I wouldn't worry, its very controversial. Not taking thyroid med can cause worse things, like a coma years from now.
Avatar f tn Ray Oyakawa Thank you for your response. I noted that for the last several months whenever I took Boniva I had significant swelling under both eyes. Thus, when this past Sunday, 5/23 I developed the papilloma on my left lower eyelid (center) which at first seemed to have a point on top & next day became more elongated I thought Boniva. I would appreciate any feedback as to cause & what possible treatment. It, not very large & seems to be same size this first week.
717272 tn?1277590780 I am always careful to take my calcium supplement. As a small framed person, this is a big concern for me. My mother has osteoporosis. I have a doctor's appt Tuesday to discuss my still not being able to sleep good and being all amped up 3 months after tx. I will ask her about the bone density test. I know I have never had one. Not sure if I am not old enough yet or what the criteria is for that. Menopause, maybe?
Avatar f tn I know with my mom, it did not work that way for her. She was on bone drugs, calcium/Vit.D for 20 yrs total and still developed osteoporosis with 2 compression fractures in her back. Finally at 79, (she's 80 now), they said, no more bone drugs, they aren't working. She started out with Fosamax, and after awhile when side effects start from that one, and Actonel was available, they put her on Actonel and she was on Actonel all the way up until it was stopped at 79.
Avatar f tn ve read, the main reasons that doctors continue to prescribe HRT is for hot flashes, vagina atrophy and to prevent bone loss, and it puzzles me to see that doctors continue to prescribe or keep us on conventional HRT when there are other choices, such as Boniva for osteo and topical estrogens for dryness and atrophy. I'm no doctor, but to me it would seem logical that they would first want us to try things that are the least likely to cause harm.
212161 tn?1599427282 does anyone take Boniva and how bad were the side effects
Avatar f tn I am 48 yrs. old and was diagnosed with b/c in July of 2008. I have undergone a lumpectomy, chemotherepy -AC/T and radiation. I finished this course last spring. I was also on tamoxifen until about four weeks ago. I had an ooferectomy almost 2 weeks ago as a precaution, as my mother died of ovarian cancer at the age of 59. I felt great until I started Arimidex on Tuesday, and now I feel horrible.
294425 tn?1288528395 I was also was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis in 2010, but nobody could figure out why, since I was on estrogen to PREVENT that. My Dexa scan at the time was -2.8 for the AP spine, -2.8 for total left and -2.5 for total right - worse than my mothers bones, and I was only 46 at that time. I have been taking Reclast since then. My family physician did new labs this week. My calcium was 11.3, my PTH had gone up to 76, and my vitamin D 1, 25 was 114. My family phys.
Avatar f tn I have osteoporosis and have been on Actonel for 18 months. It has done wonders and reversed all of my bone loss, some greatly and some moderately, but all areas have improved. There are so many contributing factors to it that there is no telling what caused it in either of us. Genetic predisposition did not help in my case. What are the docs doing to treat yours?
Avatar f tn //philaholisticclinic.com/natural-treatment-for-osteoporosis/ Because supplmenting with anything can impact you, we do recommend you consult with someone. Even a nutritionist. Calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium are important for bone health. Recommendations of what amount to take would be best with someone that knows your medical history. Even a nutritionist could be of benefit to you. Are you doing weight bearing exercise by the way? This video is helpful. https://health.clevelandclinic.
Avatar n tn m on hormone replacement and have osteoporosis, and Vit D level is 18.6. Currently I am being treated for low Vit D level and that is all. I have no idea what else all these levels mean? It was suggested that I have hypothyrodism but after reading the symtoms, I really have few if any.
Avatar f tn extremely swollen right leg especially around knee joint - could not even bend knee, terrible hip pain and two days later a tooth abscess. What are the chances I can tolerate Boniva once a month? My Endocrinologist wants me to try it.
Avatar f tn Generally this is used for the immune system -- it is found in highest amounts in colostrum, the first part of our immune building found in breast milk. It is used for other things, sometimes for iron, but still mostly for building the proper bacterial foundation for a strong immune system. Don't see how it will build bone.
