boniva

1026267 tn?1257591273 If you do weight bearing exersise and take regular calcium through your diet or an added over the counter supplement, and Vit D, and you have had your calcium levels check and they are ok too, then there shouldn't be any need to take the Boniva, daily or monthly! Have you had calcium levels checked, not just the bone density testing?
Avatar f tn I have developed osteopenia which I'm sure is now osteoperosis - I haven't had a bone density scan done recently, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had gotten worse. It's frustrating because my doctors are so hung up on treating my cancer that no one seems to worried about the bone loss. I have talked to my family doctor about it and he recommended the typical calcium plus vitamin D.
Avatar n tn Did your doctor tell you to take calcium supplements? Do your calcium supplements contain Vitamin D? Your body needs Vitamin D to absorb calcium. One sign of hypocalcemia is tingling in the fingers, toes, and around your lips. Left undertreated, it can lead to muscle cramping and eventually convulsions and even death. Are you seeing an endocrinologist for your low calcium?
Avatar m tn She eventually had to have cadaver bone to replace the bone she lost, then implants. She should take other types of calcium supplements.
519035 tn?1348275773 Just curious as to what we take for our supplements. Unfortunately I have a pill box now:) But maybe we could help each other out with this thyroid mess.
Avatar n tn in order to treat osteo you need to be on fosmax/ boniva or like substances and have hrt. your doctor you should sue.... because he perscribed it while having the knowledge of your bone health knowing it decreases the amount of calcium in your bones.
Avatar f tn I was taking the hormones to help my bones, as I have osteopenia and rheumatoid arthritis. I am on prescription drugs to help the bones (Boniva and calcium and vit. d). I'm worried about breast cancer with continuing the hormones. I had a partial mastectomy on my right breast which was benign. I had a cluster of microcalcifications which looked supicious, but turned out to be benign (big sigh)! Okay now my question.
Avatar n tn So, I take supplemental Vit. D. I eat dairy and plenty of calcium and my bloodwork shows I have adequate calcium intake.
Avatar f tn It is recommended to take calcium supp and to do low impact exercises to min bone loss. Foamax comes in syrup which can help you with the gastro problems. However, it can create more facial bone issues. Talk to your docotor-good luck!
Avatar n tn I have had osteopenia for many years; I have been able to rebuild my bone density by taking calcium and magnesium, but if you've already been diagnosed with osteoporosis, you might need to go on a med specifically for that. What is your current thyroid status?
717272 tn?1277590780 Yes, since even osteoporosis can be reversed with good diet and exercise, I think you can improve your health after tx. Eat foods rich in calcium, get plenty of vitamin D, and do weight bearing exercise. But do be careful. And stay off of horses for a while!
Avatar f tn After gastric bypass, malabsorption is common and the PTH level will increase to help regulate calcium. Taking vitamin D and calcium can help with this. Depending on the serum calcium level, there is an outside chance this is a parathyroid benign tumor (ie if Ca is >10 it is more likely) but usually in these cases the Ca is in the 8.5-9.5 range) and taking extra oral calcium and vitamin D is the best bet.
Avatar f tn At that time I did not have osteoporosis. Then I went to my third endocronologist and that doctor told me to get on calcium supplements NOW! I was afraid to do so but had just taken another DEXA scan and had lost 5.6%-10.2% of my bone mass. I was told I have bad osteoporosis. I did go on calcium supplements and took more blood tests 8 weeks later. For the 1st time in years my calcium serum was normal! :) My numbers range from 9.4-9.7 for a very long time now.
Avatar n tn She is on Lopressor 25mg, Mucinex 600mg, Aspirin 162mg, Aldactone 25mg, Lasix 20mg, OTC multivitamin, OTC calcium 500mg, and OTC iron. Her BP runs consistently in the 130's/70's with her pulse in the mid 60's.
929504 tn?1332585934 I had symptoms within hours after surgery but I was able to stop the calcium within a couple weeks and my calcium levels are fine.
Avatar f tn I monitor this site for info on my eye condition. I do not know if the papilloma specifically is related, but Boniva and drugs like it can cause swelling around the eyes as you describe. Just read any website discussing adverse effects of Boniva. I think it worth discussing with your doctor. You should be very aware and cautious of any facial swelling while on Boniva.
Avatar f tn I heard yesterday that Boniva would cause eye disorders called uveitis and sleraderma? Does this bone medicine cause eye problems? I have an eye disorder called Fuchs cornea dystrophy and have recently had cataract surgery in both eyes ;however one eye keeps feeling irritated.
Avatar f tn Hi, I posted on Community, but really meant to ask my question here. I recently had a mammogram which showed findings of a cyst. I needed additional views, so I returned three days later for a second mammogram of the left breast only, and it showed a nodule. I had an ultrasound the same day which showed an 8 mm benign cyst and several other subcentimeter benign cysts, some with low internal echoes (what are internal echoes?
Avatar n tn So calcium supplements are prescribed along with femara. There are few studies that do suggest that calcium supplements increase the risk of heart attacks. Discuss it with your doctor. Any drug should be taken only if the advantages outweigh the potential risks involved in taking it. We all differ in our body requirements and needs so have a frank discussion with your treating physician if dietary supplementation of calcium will be really helpful. Hope it helps. Good luck.
Avatar f tn It is now diminishing in size and I am hopeful it will vanish but I hesitate to continue on Boniva.
219609 tn?1210348114 I'm taking a water tablets for my high calcium problem, and doctor did not tell me this would cause a low postasssium problem, and getting more tired and weaker by the day, and the dizzy spells are returning, so hoping taking Mag, and Potassium supplements would help,,and experience here
294425 tn?1288528395 I used to exercise pretty regularly, before winter came and I got sick all the time. I always took calcium supplements. Been on hormones for almost 4 years now, mostly so I WOULDN'T get osteoporosis, lol. And I looked it up, and osteoporosis doesn't seem to be on the laundry list of side effects/complications of Tysabri, so who knows. Maybe it's just from the crazy cocktail of other meds I take every day! Just wondered if anyone else was in the same boat.....
294425 tn?1288528395 All patients with parathyroid disease have calcium levels and PTH levels that go up and down. Fluctuating levels of calcium are typical of parathyroid disease. 5. All patients with hyperparathyroidism will develop osteoporosis. ALL. 6. Taking Fosamax, Actonel, Boniva, or Reclast (etc) will NOT help bones that are being attacked by a bad parathyroid. These osteoporosis drugs have no place in the treatment of parathyroid disease. 7.

Avatar m tn Hello. I have celiac disease, a salicylate intolerance AND milk allergy. My blood test showed my milk allergy is considered moderate. I am currently taking NOW foods calcium carbonate powder because it's free of gluten..supposedly free of dairy..and it's pure mineral so it doesn't effect my salicylate intolerance (which comes from plants). I re-introduced turnip into my diet recently but i also started using this calcium powder at the same time.
237053 tn?1258828426 Has anyone else heard that taking magnesium and calcium supplements can limit the effectiveness of Doxycycline? I am a non-dairy person and need my extra calcium supplement, but have put it aside until I am done with the meds for a while. I read this somewhere, but was wondering if you might have too.
1253197 tn?1331209110 Diagnosed August, 2013 Neurologist talked about how important D3 supplements were, along with magnesium and zinc. Lots of sun recommended and supplements recommended.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have Hashimoto's and I would like advice regarding some supplements I want to take and if it's a good idea to take them now. The only reason I ask is really because my 6-week thyroid blood test is in two weeks' time and as I haven't taken any supplements since being on the 50mcg Levothyroxine I'm worried that by taking the supplements now the results of my thyroid blood test may be skewed.
