Boniva and calcium

Common Questions and Answers about Boniva and calcium

boniva

1026267 tn?1257591273 If you do weight bearing exersise and take regular calcium through your diet or an added over the counter supplement, and Vit D, and you have had your calcium levels check and they are ok too, then there shouldn't be any need to take the Boniva, daily or monthly! Have you had calcium levels checked, not just the bone density testing?
Avatar n tn in order to treat osteo you need to be on fosmax/ boniva or like substances and have hrt. your doctor you should sue.... because he perscribed it while having the knowledge of your bone health knowing it decreases the amount of calcium in your bones.
Avatar f tn I was taking the hormones to help my bones, as I have osteopenia and rheumatoid arthritis. I am on prescription drugs to help the bones (Boniva and calcium and vit. d). I'm worried about breast cancer with continuing the hormones. I had a partial mastectomy on my right breast which was benign. I had a cluster of microcalcifications which looked supicious, but turned out to be benign (big sigh)! Okay now my question.
Avatar n tn So, I take supplemental Vit. D. I eat dairy and plenty of calcium and my bloodwork shows I have adequate calcium intake.
Avatar f tn It is recommended to take calcium supp and to do low impact exercises to min bone loss. Foamax comes in syrup which can help you with the gastro problems. However, it can create more facial bone issues. Talk to your docotor-good luck!
Avatar f tn I was told that it would worsen after the chemo (carbo/taxoterre), and it did. Not terribly, but a decrease in bone mass just that same. I started on Boniva and my cholesterol shot up about 120 points. I just stopped that recently and my numbers dropped by 80 points. Seems there are downsides for everything. Now taking Viactiv with vitamins D & K, 3 chews a day. Will have another bone density next April. I also am fairly physically active and hope that will help.
Avatar n tn ve been taking the calcium pills and I still get low calicum can that happen while your taking calicum pills? has anyone had this problem?
Avatar m tn I have given her some 5000 IU vitamine D, which if taken daily gets up to the 50,000 per week. Gave her some calcium and a good multi-vitamine also. And yes, she should take Synthroid, but her Ukrainian doctors are mis-advising her, saying that her lab results are "in range" even if they are all on the absolute low of the range. I think the Synthroid would help her absorbe the calcim. She has gotten very bad advice, and she will suffer forever because of it.
Avatar f tn After gastric bypass, malabsorption is common and the PTH level will increase to help regulate calcium. Taking vitamin D and calcium can help with this. Depending on the serum calcium level, there is an outside chance this is a parathyroid benign tumor (ie if Ca is >10 it is more likely) but usually in these cases the Ca is in the 8.5-9.5 range) and taking extra oral calcium and vitamin D is the best bet.
Avatar n tn She is on Lopressor 25mg, Mucinex 600mg, Aspirin 162mg, Aldactone 25mg, Lasix 20mg, OTC multivitamin, OTC calcium 500mg, and OTC iron. Her BP runs consistently in the 130's/70's with her pulse in the mid 60's.
Avatar f tn I monitor this site for info on my eye condition. I do not know if the papilloma specifically is related, but Boniva and drugs like it can cause swelling around the eyes as you describe. Just read any website discussing adverse effects of Boniva. I think it worth discussing with your doctor. You should be very aware and cautious of any facial swelling while on Boniva.
Avatar f tn I heard yesterday that Boniva would cause eye disorders called uveitis and sleraderma? Does this bone medicine cause eye problems? I have an eye disorder called Fuchs cornea dystrophy and have recently had cataract surgery in both eyes ;however one eye keeps feeling irritated.
Avatar f tn Hi, I posted on Community, but really meant to ask my question here. I recently had a mammogram which showed findings of a cyst. I needed additional views, so I returned three days later for a second mammogram of the left breast only, and it showed a nodule. I had an ultrasound the same day which showed an 8 mm benign cyst and several other subcentimeter benign cysts, some with low internal echoes (what are internal echoes?
Avatar f tn It is now diminishing in size and I am hopeful it will vanish but I hesitate to continue on Boniva.
Avatar n tn I have had osteopenia for many years; I have been able to rebuild my bone density by taking calcium and magnesium, but if you've already been diagnosed with osteoporosis, you might need to go on a med specifically for that. What is your current thyroid status?
212161 tn?1599427282 does anyone take Boniva and how bad were the side effects
209384 tn?1231168306 Every time I read this I wonder what about all of us who are thyroidless b/c of RAI? Shouldn't we be getting checked or is there a reason only the ppl who have a TT need to? I've had mine checked a few times, but then they just stopped checking it. It was always okay, but I'm really concerned. I don't always take calcium and when I do it's not very much. And I don't drink milk. Bluck!!
717272 tn?1277590780 Yes, since even osteoporosis can be reversed with good diet and exercise, I think you can improve your health after tx. Eat foods rich in calcium, get plenty of vitamin D, and do weight bearing exercise. But do be careful. And stay off of horses for a while!
Avatar f tn I am 43, have osteopena, low ferritin, asthma and a large hiatal hernia. I have heard that taking PPI's long term can interfere with calcium and iron absorption but I cannot live without PPI. Do you think that I would benefit from having a Nissen Fundalplication?
387113 tn?1313512083 ) Anyway, I thought about taking 2000 mg of Vit C a day but someone told me that its bad to boost the immune system w/ MS. My concern is the DMDs suppress the immune system so you get sick easier.... What to do? Thanks!
Avatar n tn I am on mega-amounts of calcium and, because of thyroid meds and no estrogen, I also have to take Boniva for my bones. Your mother needs a specialist - preferably an endocrinologist who deals with thyroid/parathyroid issues.
294425 tn?1288528395 All patients with parathyroid disease have calcium levels and PTH levels that go up and down. Fluctuating levels of calcium are typical of parathyroid disease. 5. All patients with hyperparathyroidism will develop osteoporosis. ALL. 6. Taking Fosamax, Actonel, Boniva, or Reclast (etc) will NOT help bones that are being attacked by a bad parathyroid. These osteoporosis drugs have no place in the treatment of parathyroid disease. 7.
Avatar n tn Do you have osteopenia and are borderline osteoporosis, or are you borderline osteopenia? Lost bone can be rebuilt; I did it. Are you also supplementing calcium and magnesium, with the vitamin D? While I still have osteopenia, I have managed to stave off osteoporosis for the past 10 yrs via a regimen of calcium, magnesium and vitamin D supplementation, as well as plenty of exercise, mainly yoga and walking.
Avatar f tn If you have osteoporosis, you should be taking calcium w/magnesium and vitamin D. I have had osteopenia for years and by taking my calcium (1200 mg/day in 2 - 600 mg doses) and along with exercise, I have been able to actually rebuild bone previously lost.
Avatar f tn The technician looked at my med list and asked if I am taking Boniva and Synthroid. I answered yes. I take other meds other than those two she mentioned. I told her that I understood why she asked about the Boniva but I didn't understand why she asked about Synthroid. She told me that thyroid meds take from the bones and causes osteoporosis. WHAT??? How come no doctor ever told me?
