1209036 tn?1299178657 A blood sample will be taken from a vein in your arm about 60 minutes after drinking the solution. The blood test measures how the glucose solution was metabolized (processed by the body). A blood glucose of 140mg/dL will identify 80% of women with gestational diabetes. When that cutoff is lowered to 130mg/dL the yield increases to 90%.
Avatar n tn Is there usually a difference in the test results from blood drawn from the arm and blood drawn from the finger tip? I heard that the fingertip blood can test higher than blood drawn from the arm and I wondered if that is usually the case.
Avatar f tn They draw your blood, you drink the solution, wait 30 minutes, and draw your blood again. Needle is only in your arm for 30 seconds each time.
539156 tn?1281818356 All doctors should run what is called A1C testing, to test your overall blood sugar readings over the past 3 months. This can actually be determined through this testing. (Remarkable, huh?) It's VERY possible that you DO indeed have some diabetic neuropathy caused from years of having higher than normal blood sugar readings. Its a sneaky disease, just like high blood pressure. Silent robbers of life, if not treated properly.
Avatar f tn have a strange mark on body near arm, it is blacky brown ,in the centre and flat, but has raised edges sometimes red, using fungal cream. does nothing, it does not itch at all. but is sore when pressed, also have some under the arm with out raised edge, they look like black bruises but are not.
Avatar n tn But my fasting blood sugar was 8.1 which is quite high. Before this test i used BP tablest for 4 days until the test is done. Later from the next day i was tested for Random blood sugar several times for 2 days always the readings are normal the highest shown is 5.2. My doctor not even commented on this. Based on fasting blood sugar am i diabetic already? Please advice.
Avatar f tn I have mine blood sugar test in 2 days. I'm so nervous. Any suggestions ...
Avatar m tn Your doctor should test your HbA1c. This test gives an average blood sugar over the past approximately 3 months. Normal HBA1C is 4.3 - 4.6, with < 5.0 still being acceptable. If your HBA1C is 6 - 7 your blood sugars are too high. If it is above 7 you will be officially diagnosed as diabetic. Diet, exercise and weight loss are all a critical part of management of diabetes.
Avatar f tn When you get there they will draw a fasting blood sugar then they will have you drink the gluocola. I did the orange and it just tasted like flat pop that had a ton of sugar in it. Then they draw your blood every hour for 3 hours after you drink it.
Avatar m tn l last had a full blood test three years ago and was normal , A few month ago my doctor gave me a finger prick test and he said it was normal , does that prove l dont have diabetes or do l need to take a full blood test where they take blood with a needle in your arm, l hate that. Also l bought a Dus 10 urine strp home test kit .
Avatar f tn Oh I bruised and that crappy tape the use for ur little puncture is the worst.. she told me I will have results by monday. So no newsbis good news. I didn't knoe I needed to get stuck 4 times I thought I drinl that crap and come back in 3 hrs.. surprise no!!
Avatar f tn This is a simple blood test requiring no fasting and can be taken any time of the day. You can Google A1c to understand how and why this test is undertaken.
Avatar n tn I had a doubt since one of you has mentioned that I could use my palm and/ arm for alternate blood testing sights, could you elaborate a little on that, as in where exactly from the arm/palm? Fyi, I use the surestep plus lifescan machine for blood tests daily. Please advice. I will work upon the other suggestions and revert back if i have any further queries on this issue. Thanks again. Regards.
Avatar n tn In the event that you had a fasting blood glucose test, a dimension somewhere in the range of 70 and 100 mg/dL (3.9 and 5.6 mmol/L) is viewed as ordinary. In the event that you had an arbitrary blood glucose test, an ordinary outcome relies upon when you last ate. More often than not, the blood glucose level will be underneath 125 mg/dL (6.
Avatar n tn Definitely do the 3h glucose test. The thing about the 1h test is your system is bombarded with an abnormally large amount of sugar in a short time and the blood test will measure your response to it - this is quite different from measuring your levels throughout the day which may be more "normal" because your sugar intake could have been at a relatively low level. In essence, testing your levels throughout the day is not necessarily a good indicator of whether you have GD or not.
Avatar n tn When he had a seizure Friday I called 911 and the paramedics checked his blood sugar and it was 218 and they thought he might be diabetic. 8 hours later we took him to the health department and they checked his sugar (by drawing blood from his arm) and it was 112 and they said he wasn't diabetic and that the finger ***** test wasn't very accurate. They thought that the seizure caused his sugar to go up. The last time he had ate anything was 12 hours before the seizure.
Avatar f tn Usually, fasting begins at midnight for a test the next day. Your sugar by the standards of your lab states it was high on your first test. The repeat is normal. I am not sure if that was a fluke. I'd probably get it checked in another 6 months to see where you are at. This article may help you understand how blood sugar can fluctuate and when it is normal. https://www.mayoclinic.
1947337 tn?1331423890 i saw your post about the pain in ur jaw and face and the lump...im guessing the lump is on the back of your neck?? I had this when I first started having problems with the HA before i was diag with chiari...my pcp said it was just a swollen lymph node and after a round of steroids it went away. but the jaw and neck pain stayed so my personal opinion is that it is chiari related but i would still take the others advice and check with ur NS or go to ER. Let us know how things turn out...
Avatar f tn I took the test today as well my arm hurts I was poke twice.
Avatar f tn m from Viet Nam and I got a test this morning, everything was clean but after the nurse rubbed my arm with the cotton, she used the scissor to hold the cotton, after drawing my blood, she reused that cotten to put on the spot where blood has been taken from. I held the cotton for a little while before throwing it away. I am wondering if the cotton could get someone else's blood when it was "waiting" (help by the scissor) to be put on my arm again. If it did, was it a risk as well?
4989104 tn?1365648962 I flunked the one-hour and passed the three-hour, but my midwife still wants me to monitor my blood sugar until the end of the pregnancy. She said my fasting blood sugar level and first-hour blood draw numbers barely passed. The blood testing is a drag. I sometimes forget to take it. It's been a week, and my numbers look okay for the most part: under 100 before eating and under 140 a couple of hours after eating. Better safe than sorry, I suppose.
Avatar f tn Hi i m male 29.weight 95 kg.my question is regarding my blood sugar.5 days ago randomly after heavy dinner i checked my bs and home gluco meter said 225 after almost 2 hours.then i checked half hour later and it was 182 after 3 and half hours it was 103.225 was high so in morning i went to lab with gluco meter and they picked blood from vein and tested on gluco meter ist it was 103 and in lab 87.lab technician told me that go home eat drink tea with sugar and come back after two hours.
Avatar f tn It is improper to test randomly as it does not provide a clear insight on how your body handles excess sugar. Part of your annual health exam should include testing for diabetes. Go see your doctor for one.
Avatar f tn Where I work, we complete a 3 hour as too many women slip through the cracks on a one hour glucose.
8653699 tn?1409720132 I had the glucose test today. Just don't eat or drink anything but water 6-8 hours before. Drink the sugary drink. They listened to my baby's heartbeat but no ultrasound. They drew 3 vials of blood and sent me off.
