Avatar f tn t seem to quit. For example, my worst is biting my nails and the skin around my fingers. I bite them CONSTANTLY and have tried everything to quit. (Fake nails, bad tasting nail solution, gloves, bandaids, nail polish... You name it) On top of that, I also pick the skin of my lips, bite the inside of my mouth, crack my fingers and toes and more! I was reading online that constant nail biting and such bad habits could be classified as OCD.
Avatar f tn I bite mine alot too.. iduno if its an ocd' or not. i even got acrylic nails put on for prom.. and ended up biting them off. but not eating the nail -.- lol without ripping my nail underneath off.. :l ive been biting mine since i was little.. and my friends who bite theres. think i go too far with biting mine!! but you should be ok.. ive been thru about 16 yrs of nail biting (im 18) and not really had problems apart from the odd sting..
Avatar f tn I have a nail biting problem. My nails are chewed down past my fingertips. My ring fingernails are shortest, at about an eight of an inch long. The skin where my nails used to be is scarred and ugly. Despite the intense pain and bleeding, I can't stop biting my nails. When I can't get a grip on the nail with my teeth, I find myself picking at them with a knife, nail clippers, pencil, or whatever's on hand. I've tried nail polish.
Avatar m tn Drink plenty of water and get lots and lots of exercise. To quit biting your nails, get that kid stuff that tastes awful and put them on your fingers, plus make a concentrated effort not to do that. Instead, you can get into puzzles, like Soduku, it helps to release that pent-up energy in a similar way as chewing on your nails, it's a tiny goofing thing and much more adult.
Avatar m tn Sorry if this sounds far fetched. I'm currently in therapy for OCD. Today, at my therapist office, I went to use the bathroom, and noticed there was urine on the toilet seat. I'm a male, but I figured I'd wipe it off anyways, I used a brown paper towel to wipe it off. I'm not sure if there was blood in the urine, or if it went through the paper towel onto my hands, but afterward I used water (no soap avail) to wash my hands.
Avatar f tn I've bitten my fingernails my whole life since i was a little girl until they bleed and hurt and i pick at my skin as well. It's awful. Nail polish and stuff to paint on nails specifically to stop biting didn't help... Nothing helped until i started seeing a psychiatrist who prescribed me OCD drugs, but i was already well into my 20s so I'm not sure what a pediatrician can prescribe... But ask your doc about obsessive compulsive disorder.
Avatar n tn I did not think much about it until I was cleaning the table and the strip that u put the drop of blood on was at the table and it kind of poked or touched my finger w/ a scabbed cut. I was not bleeding or anyrhing but I did have a small scab from biting my nails. Is this a risk for HIV. I washed my hands afterwards. Just to point out it was not the needle but the strip u put the blood on. Please respond. I dont know if this is my ocd or what but im scared.
1440728 tn?1284064606 There are many similar nervous habits: biting nails, twirling hair, scratching cuts, picking cuticles, etc. It's often with OCD. I just came across a thread, and these posts stood out: "My 4yr old niece twirls her hair right over her right ear to the point she causes knots and eventually twirls her hair out. She hands you chunks of hair. Short of shaving her bald, what can we do to help her with this nervous habbit?" "Hi L.,I had a similar problem for most of my life.
Avatar f tn s just a nervous habit, no different than biting nails. I bit my nails so bad in the past that they would bleed. I got a pedicure once and they told me how bad my nails looked and I never bit them again. Now I have beautiful fingernails, but its like double time on my tongue now! I bit my nails if I was bored, nervous, i thought one was uneven...etc. I bite the papillae for the same reasons. Its just a nervous habit.
Avatar n tn To the best of my knowledge tearing or biting finger or toenails is not usually OCD, but to the extent she's doing it and the manner as which you described the symptoms it quite possibly could be classified as such. If it's not OCD, compulsive biting/tearing is usually a sign of an underlying anxiety problem, and there is something clearly wrong here if she's having to cover her fingers and toes.
Avatar m tn just before that I was giving her a foot massage, about an hour before i gave the massage she was walking outside with no shoes on... anyway while i was giving the massage i was biting my nails... there could have been anything on those feet and i put my fingers in my mouth - can i catch Hep C from this?
Avatar f tn I have never had nails. I cant peel an orange or pick up a quarter, biting is something I've always done. Whenever I see white it just has to go! ill bite my toes even. Whenever I had a professional job interview or college interview, my dad would always tell me "Make sure you sit on your hands!" even as hard as I would try I would always somehow subconsciously find my hand in my mouth.
Avatar f tn I have controlled somehow but still end up biting once in a while!! One possible way might be cut ur nails as much possible so that theres nothing left to bite!!
Avatar f tn so i started developing this actions about maybe 5 years maybe ive had them longer theres alot like i have something i just found out what it was called globus hysterics and i bite my nails alot and 2 years ago i started picking at my head and scabs that i have i dont have dry skin or dry scalp i pick and pick and pick so much it bleeds on my head i do it more when im mad or stressed or anxious it never heals and now i started doing it to my belly button its so weird i cannot stop i try for
Avatar f tn Ever since I was little I have been biting my nails. When I finally stopped doing that I began to pick at the skin around my fingers and bite the inside of my mouth. I cant seem to ever relax. When I try not to pick at my fingers I get a really anxious feeling as if Im about to jump out of my skin. Even just sitting in school or watching tv I am not able to sit still and relax. What is wrong with me? Why cant I relax?
Avatar f tn I'm a high school kid who has experienced depression and is currently experiencing anxiety. You see, I used to have long, strong, thick nails. I was quite proud of them (mainly because they were my main self harm tools). But, due to anxiety, I started biting my nails down. Now, they don't even grow past the tip of my finger. I always keep them super short. I also bite off the skin around my nails, and try to tear away my cuticles.
Avatar n tn unrelated but similarly, tips to stop eating at the skin of my fingers around the nails would also be helpful, as the biting is a terrible nervous habit of my ocd that cant be good.
Avatar f tn ever since i was little ive biten my nails. in the past year ive gone from biting them when im nervous or bored to hacking at the nail and the skin around them with nail clippers and even scaples. whats wrong with me. i often cant stop until it hurts and there bleeding... what could this be caused by?
Avatar f tn I was happy I finally kicked that nasty habit of biting my nails and they started to grow but now there all breaking off
564710 tn?1217719711 Okay, so I wasn't sure where to post this so.. And I saw one past that was here and I figured this wasas good a place as any. So, I'm 14 years old and my parents yell at me any time I start biting my nails. I've been biting them all my life. But when I bring up the fact that they can buy me things on the market to help control my bad habit, they refuse and say I need to use my will power. Only problem is I'm not a very willful girl.
Avatar f tn Not sure why biting one's nails would "damage" them. It can annoy onlookers, but all you're doing is cutting your nails with your teeth instead of a tool. How wide the pink is I'm guessing is more dependent on who you are than anything else. Health and length of nails is dependent on your diet. I bit my nails for years as well, and when I stopped, they just grow now and I have to take the time to cut them. I preferred biting them, frankly.
Avatar n tn My 11 year old daughter is constantly either biting or cutting her nails. Toe nails and finger nails. The other day there was nothing left of her nails so she chopped off all of her hair. She is in counseling and has been since her father passed in January 2015. The finger/toe nail thing started just before she turned 6 when we got divorced. I'm so scared and don't know what else to do for her. I have been praying to God and crying myself to sleep every night.
Avatar f tn My 20 month old son is biting his nails and crunching his teeth even in his sleep.. I have noticed that during the weekend he sometimes stops biting his nails but starts again in the week, (he goes to daycare). I have asked his day care provider if there are any kids who bite their nails and she said none.
Avatar n tn Interestingly, when I was pregnant I stopped biting my nails. However, when I was no longer pregnant I began again. The nails come in stronger during pregnancy and I think hormones are involved in this somehow. I also find that if I cut out caffiene the biting can lessen a lot. Too bad I love coffee. I find that if I get a ragged edge on my nail, I am completely unable to combat biting and of course that just makes it worse.
665851 tn?1225826009 She was constantly biting or cutting her nails until her fingers and toes would bleed, pulling out her eyebrows, and more. She has been off the Vyvanse for almost one week and I am still seeing some OCD behavior. She had absolutely no signs of OCD prior to Vyvanse. This has just added to the problems we were trying to fix. After blogging this I discovered that there are many more people who have developed OCD while taking Vyvanse.
