Avatar f tn My 20 month old son is biting his nails and crunching his teeth even in his sleep.. I have noticed that during the weekend he sometimes stops biting his nails but starts again in the week, (he goes to daycare). I have asked his day care provider if there are any kids who bite their nails and she said none.
Avatar f tn I was exactly like you, sir, or ma'am. Honestly, when ever you start biting your nails, eat sun flower seeds. I do it to this day and haven't bitten my nails for months. Sun flower seeds will keep your tongue and teeth busy. In a couple weeks it'll help you stop biting your nails. Try it! I hope it helps.

Avatar f tn Ever since I was little I have been biting my nails. When I finally stopped doing that I began to pick at the skin around my fingers and bite the inside of my mouth. I cant seem to ever relax. When I try not to pick at my fingers I get a really anxious feeling as if Im about to jump out of my skin. Even just sitting in school or watching tv I am not able to sit still and relax. What is wrong with me? Why cant I relax?
Avatar f tn I'm a 14 yr old girl with a great life most of the time, not much drama and i do well at school with stress only during the really big tests so i dont understand why i bite my nails and do so till they bleed. I've bitten my nails since i was little and recently I have been trying everything i can think of to stop. The one main thing I've figured out is this addiction to biting my nails overcomes my willpower.
Avatar f tn I'm a high school kid who has experienced depression and is currently experiencing anxiety. You see, I used to have long, strong, thick nails. I was quite proud of them (mainly because they were my main self harm tools). But, due to anxiety, I started biting my nails down. Now, they don't even grow past the tip of my finger. I always keep them super short. I also bite off the skin around my nails, and try to tear away my cuticles.

564710 tn?1217719711 Okay, so I wasn't sure where to post this so.. And I saw one past that was here and I figured this wasas good a place as any. So, I'm 14 years old and my parents yell at me any time I start biting my nails. I've been biting them all my life. But when I bring up the fact that they can buy me things on the market to help control my bad habit, they refuse and say I need to use my will power. Only problem is I'm not a very willful girl.
Avatar f tn I was happy I finally kicked that nasty habit of biting my nails and they started to grow but now there all breaking off
Avatar f tn Hi Healther, It could be something like nighttime seizures which is one of the top 3 common reasons for tongue biting in your sleep, these seizures are usually a tightening of muscles accompanied by violent twitching but involuntarily biting of the tongue during sleep is definitely suggestive of seizures.
Avatar n tn Interestingly, when I was pregnant I stopped biting my nails. However, when I was no longer pregnant I began again. The nails come in stronger during pregnancy and I think hormones are involved in this somehow. I also find that if I cut out caffiene the biting can lessen a lot. Too bad I love coffee. I find that if I get a ragged edge on my nail, I am completely unable to combat biting and of course that just makes it worse.
Avatar f tn Not sure why biting one's nails would "damage" them. It can annoy onlookers, but all you're doing is cutting your nails with your teeth instead of a tool. How wide the pink is I'm guessing is more dependent on who you are than anything else. Health and length of nails is dependent on your diet. I bit my nails for years as well, and when I stopped, they just grow now and I have to take the time to cut them. I preferred biting them, frankly.
Avatar n tn You had no risk whatso ever.
Avatar m tn Drink plenty of water and get lots and lots of exercise. To quit biting your nails, get that kid stuff that tastes awful and put them on your fingers, plus make a concentrated effort not to do that. Instead, you can get into puzzles, like Soduku, it helps to release that pent-up energy in a similar way as chewing on your nails, it's a tiny goofing thing and much more adult.
703579 tn?1228694819 Last couple days has been really hard for me and my nails have been paying the price thats all i want to do is bite my nails plus it does not help that my car is broke down so i cant leave the house to do something differnet beside sit in front of the tv and bite my nails, i guess im nervous about how much it's going to cost to get my starter rebuilt, plus yesterday was a year my dad had past.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your reply! I'm sure he's not biting - I've never seen him bite his nails (he's 8.5 yrs. old), his nails are even and have no bite/tear ridges, and his toes don't grow either, and he's not flexible enough to get to all his toes. I've asked him if he bites or picks at them and he says no. So def. no biting, they simply don't grow. It's weird.
1232362 tn?1333135406 My youngest, a 2 yr old named Bob just discovered his back toe nails and bites them! Anyone else observe this attractive habit?
Avatar f tn My son is 11 years, old and seems to have an issue with his hands and mouth. He has always put everything in his mouth to the point where teachers have mentioned it to me as a concern. I've struggled to stop him from biting is finger nails and toe nails, he eats his buggers and has an incredible appetite for unhealthy foods, i.e. anything with cheese, ice cream, fattening foods, candy. We are careful that we control his food intake so he's not unhealthy or overweight (about 85 lbs.
Avatar n tn I use to bite my nails untill I started to get what I guess was puss pocket under my nails and I stopped biting my nails but contineud to bite around my finger nails. Just one side of my thumb is now swollen, warm to the touche, and hurts to even move it. My arm and my hand is starting to hurt as well. What is the problem?
Avatar n tn My child is 18 and getting ready to go to college. I have noticed in the past year he has had the habit of biting his cuticles to the point of cracking, bleeding and inability to heal from constant picking or chewing. Is this a normal nervous reaction that is just fleeting or should I be concerned? I read some articles re: this and recall in his youth he seemed to like having something in his mouth alot like pens or caps, necklaces or metal chains, erasers, or whatever he would pick up.
