I'm a high school kid who has experienced depression and is currently experiencing anxiety. You see, I used to have long, strong, thick nails. I was quite proud of them (mainly because they were my main self harm tools). But, due to anxiety, I started biting my nails down. Now, they don't even grow past the tip of my finger. I always keep them super short. I also bite off the skin around my nails, and try to tear away my cuticles.
I remember being in kindergarten and learning about how it was unsanitary to bite your nails and feeling ashamed. I also remember my mom putting bitter nail polish on my nails to try to keep me from biting them because I was biting them every day. I was doing it at the earliest point I can remember.
I have a nail biting problem.
My nails are chewed down past my fingertips. My ring fingernails are shortest, at about an eight of an inch long. The skin where my nails used to be is scarred and ugly. Despite the intense pain and bleeding, I can't stop biting my nails. When I can't get a grip on the nail with my teeth, I find myself picking at them with a knife, nail clippers, pencil, or whatever's on hand.
I've tried nail polish.
I have nasty habit of biting nails, and occasionally skin next to nails. Two weeks ago pealed off (bit off) part of skin next to index finger, and my finger bled just above the nail area as the result of that pulling off skin (so it was not just thin layer of skin). Minimum 8 hours later I fingered girl (maybe 2 or 3 times for couple of minutes each time) and I rubbed my penis against her vagina (but i did it from behind, so head of my penis might have come in contact with her vaginal fluids).
In regards to that, would you still maintain that it was no risk even if a part of my finger near my nail was exposed, bare, and reddish (possibly a little bleeding) from biting my nails/picking my fingers?

I'm sure he's not biting - I've never seen him bite his nails (he's 8.5 yrs. old), his nails are even and have no bite/tear ridges, and his toes don't grow either, and he's not flexible enough to get to all his toes. I've asked him if he bites or picks at them and he says no. So def. no biting, they simply don't grow. It's weird.
I used to bite my nails a LOT and then started biting the skin around it and went further and further till it got to my entire FINGER and now theres a strange reddish bump thing on my thumb and fore finger...and its been there for years and it never heals! :( im really embarrased by it and i cant afford to go to a dermatologist because i live on welfare. and then theres a scar on my knee for a year now and it hasnt gone away! how can i fix these? please tell me!
t seem to quit. For example, my worst is biting my nails and the skin around my fingers. I bite them CONSTANTLY and have tried everything to quit. (Fake nails, bad tasting nail solution, gloves, bandaids, nail polish... You name it) On top of that, I also pick the skin of my lips, bite the inside of my mouth, crack my fingers and toes and more!
I was reading online that constant nail biting and such bad habits could be classified as OCD.

cuz i dont think i will stop biting, but i wana to be once as a lady and color my nails, i let them once before and i like my hand with tall nails, but retain a gain to do the same
my mom said that cuz u are nervous, thinking in something, or need more pation from someone !

s just say she does have HIV and her vomit did get on my hand, then transmission would still need an entry point and my intact skin (even with the biting of my nails and surrounding skin - i certainly did not have an actively bleeding cut of any kind) would have been a barrier to infection, right? I have never had nails. I cant peel an orange or pick up a quarter, biting is something I've always done. Whenever I see white it just has to go! ill bite my toes even. Whenever I had a professional job interview or college interview, my dad would always tell me "Make sure you sit on your hands!" even as hard as I would try I would always somehow subconsciously find my hand in my mouth.
My reasons for biting my skin and nails i believe is because i am constantly anxious and over think things in my head which cause me to be stressed out. My main problem at the moment is with this habit and it is most probably due to the fact that i have some kind of obsessive disorder where i see putting my hands to my mouth as a means of comfort and self soothing and to be honest that is exactly the type of relief that i get when i do it.
My 20 month old son is biting his nails and crunching his teeth even in his sleep.. I have noticed that during the weekend he sometimes stops biting his nails but starts again in the week, (he goes to daycare). I have asked his day care provider if there are any kids who bite their nails and she said none.
What you have to do is NOT cut your skin but as your nail grows gently lift the nail over the skin and as it grows it will press the skin down and shouldn't cause any you any discomfort.
If one is ever even close to growing back to a normal length, I always seem to bite it back again. Also, the skin around my nails and fingertips is absolutely shredded. I push and tear off my cuticles, and tear the skin off of my fingertips. I've been doing it for so long that the fingerprints on my thumbs are nearly gone, with only pink, shiny callous left behind. My fingers are all scarred and bloody thanks to this new habit, and I still have three years to go in high school.
I'm a 14 yr old girl with a great life most of the time, not much drama and i do well at school with stress only during the really big tests so i dont understand why i bite my nails and do so till they bleed. I've bitten my nails since i was little and recently I have been trying everything i can think of to stop. The one main thing I've figured out is this addiction to biting my nails overcomes my willpower.
At hand i have 2 cuts near nails from my bad habit ( biting my fingers and took the skin near nails sometimes). The cuts were not deep , not bleeding at that moment i think were created by me 2 hours before sex..i think that condom had fluids on it and i touched with my finger which had a cut . Is this a reason to worry or to act in some case ?
