Common Questions and Answers about Bioidentical hormone therapy side effects

hormone

Avatar f tn I have been on bioidentical hormone therapy for several years: estrogel 0.06% 2 pumps once daily and prometrium 200 mg. daily. My main symptoms for seeking treatment were severe hot flashes, night sweats and insomnia. These symptoms have subsided since being on hormone replacement therapy. I do not have access to individual dosage evaluation and preparation of these hormones. I know that it is best to take the lowest dosage that gives me relief of my symptoms to decrease my risks of cancer.
Avatar f tn Is there a list of physicians who utilize bioidentical hormone therapy in their practice in the Reno area?
Avatar f tn I agree with naturopath or bioidentical hormone specialist. They can help you thru this time without synthetic drugs.
Avatar n tn daily dose of prometrium to my HRT therapy to avoid recurrence of endometriosis growth. My problem is that I am having unpleasant side effects from the prometrium, including exhaustion, minor headache, and lightheadedness. I don't like how it makes me feel. What other alternatives would you suggest to the 100 mg. prometrium? Can I take a lower dose or cream that would possibly lessen these side effects?

Avatar m tn Hi, I hope everything turns out okay for you in regard to your biopsy! Meanwhile, I hope you won't mind some information about the use of bioidentical hormones. I'm not sure why you are taking bioidentical hormones, but the 2012 hormone therapy position statement of the North American Menopause Society states: "Bioidentical hormones: Compounded EPT or ET should not be prescribed unless women are allergic to components of government-approved products.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed at age 49 in May, 2007 with Stage II, 3 nodes positive. I had 4 rounds of A/C and 4 rounds of Taxol followed by 33 rounds of radiation. My doctor now wants to put me on hormone therapy. I am premenopausal but haven't gotten my period since July due to chemo. She won't put me on Tamoxifin because of a past history of TIA several years ago. She said I would be at too high a risk for stroke on it.
Avatar f tn I too am on Armour, I do very well on it, when I first began thyroid meds, my doctor put me on Levothyroxin, did not do well, then i changed to veloxyl I think thats what its called, but had horrible side effects from it. So I then read about Armour, and its works well so far for me, with no side effects. It all depends on what your body needs, and what works for you.
Avatar f tn It is a form of HRT....Hormone Replacement Therapy....there are those that believe that bioidentical is better for you then synthenic hormones....personal choice.
Avatar m tn What is the best hormone replacement therapy and what hormones are necessary? How can she stay healthy, not gain weight and still be interested in sex? Any other advice about this whole situation would be helpful and appreciated.
Avatar n tn I have never tried natural hormones or synthetic hormones, and I'm going through menopause now. I experience extreme irritability, but not anxiety in particular. Because of the potential side-effects of any hormone "bioidentical" or otherwise I choose to just take the natural route. I know that physicians would disagree with my choice, but for me personally, I just think that when the body says "I'm on a new journey" we should listen to what our bodies say.
Avatar n tn Lymph nodes clear. After surgery had mammosite. Should I do hormone therapy? I also had ovarian cancer 2 yrs. ago. Stage 1A also. Doing well here. Took chemo for OV. and left me with aching legs and joints. The hormone therapy has so many side affects. The drugs suggested for me are Arimidex or Raloxifene. Is there anyone that does not take hormone therapy and is still doing well with no recurrance?
Avatar n tn It is a bioidentical hormone. There are supplements which are reported to stimulate the release of growth hormone. those supplements has been mixed at best. They are expensive and do not work nearly as well as the real thing: growth hormone. Growth hormone therapy can be miraculous. more than 80 percent of patients who try human growth hormone have a positive experience with it.
947100 tn?1245793837 I would recommend looking into Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy... it's where you get your hormones tested via a saliva test and based on the results, a compounding pharmacy makes up a specific cream to balance the hormones you're low in. Suzanne Somers has a really good book called "Ageless" that tells all about it... and lists doctors who do the therapy that you can go to. I'm pursuing this right now...and I can't wait to start it!
Avatar m tn In fact, the hormones in bioidentical medications may not be any different from those in traditional hormone therapy. Several hormone therapy products approved by the FDA and prescribed by health care providers contain bioidentical hormones. "Natural" means the hormones in the product come from plant or animal sources; they're not synthesized in a lab. However, many of these products still need to be commercially processed to become bioidentical.
Avatar f tn In January of 2008 the FDA sent warnings to a number of large compounders of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) products, expressing concern about these manufacturers' claims about the safety, effectiveness, and superiority of their products. In that same memo, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned about the use of estriol, a weak estrogen that has not been approved by the FDA for use in any product.
484508 tn?1290010544 See if this helps,If you have been diagnosed as having too much testosterone and you want to rid yourself of the symptoms, the best course of treatment is bio-identical hormone therapy (BHT). Over the past few decades, physicians have prescribed either synthetic hormones or hormones derived from animals. Hormones from both of these sources can have undesirable side effects. Look for a doctor that will prescribe bio-identical hormones.
2121656 tn?1395674749 Also, if I could get some feedback on what my friends here think about such. Also, after reading the difference of being treated with pharmaceutial hormone replacement therapy vs. bio-idenitical hormone replacement therapy. I'm seriously thinking of going with the latter of the two. Is anyone receiving bio-idenitical hormone replacement? if so, is it working. Thank you for your feedback.
Avatar f tn The Premarin helped quite a bit with the hot flashes, but my moods and anxiety levels seemed to get even worse. Plus it was causing physical side effects that were really scaring me, so I quit after only a few months. After quitting the hormones I started using and herbal supplement called Wisdom Menopause Formula, and for me it has been wonderful.
