Common Questions and Answers about Biaxin sun sensitivity

biaxin

Avatar n tn Not unbearable but bad enough to see a dermatologist who told me I am alergic to the sun - stay out of sun and wear sun block. I stay out of the sun. It is five years later. I went to a second dermatologist who took a biopsy of one of the itchy bumps that have become a new symptom. She told me I have a drug alergy and I should have my primary physician change my medications. I told her the only drug I take is lorazapam.
Avatar f tn I am still having problems and I am wondering if there is any other help available for people who suffer with hives due to the sun? I try to apply sun block and stay covered up, but if I go swimming this is hard to do. My problems are made worse if I am out in the sun and I touch plants (weeding the garden). I have many environmental allergies as well.
Avatar m tn t know if it was the combination of swimming and the acne regiments that he has been doing, but now he has developed a sensitivity to the sun just on his face and neck. He describes it as a HOT frying pan sitting on his face the minute he is in the sun. It alters his mood because he is in pain. He has stopped swimming, stopped using any acne regiment, skipped any fun in the sun this summer, and sits in the dark. He has been diagnosed with a mild rosacea, is negative for lupus.
Avatar f tn all i can say is THANK GOODNESS We have started biaxin/flagyl treatment. My fiancé burned with only 15 minutes sun exposure while working outside.
176741 tn?1295233989 Anyone have experience with photo-sensitivity? Basically a sun allergy that causes sun to react with chemicals in cosmetics, skin creams...even sunscreen? I am completely broken out in contact dermatitis. I was in the sun 7 days ago with sunscreen on. Anyplace I applied sunscreen and allowed sun to penetrate, I have a terribly bumpy rash. I've read that I should look for sunscreens using zinc oxide for future use. Have any of you dealt with this before? Rash is now on day 7...
1138687 tn?1548643978 A different doctor changed my prescription from Doxy to Clarithromycin, as I work outside but told her I am managing the sun well as I cover up thoroughly. Well I am not even working that much during meds as they drag me down so i can certainly get away with Doxy.
Avatar n tn Hi, Your sun sensitivity could be triggered by certain medications or chemicals found in your colognes/perfumes, cosmetics, skin lotions, and even sunscreens. It may also be caused by pre-existing diseases such as rosacea, lupus or atopic dermatitis. Cool compress, cortisone cream or over-the-counter antihistamine medication may also help. However, it is recommended to prevent too much sun exposure and to use sunscreens or UV protected clothing.
Avatar n tn I have also had many tests to make sure the retina is not torn, etc. My doctor has been very thorough. However, I have sun sensitivity in the eye with the pvd which I am told is " normal, " sometimes. Can someone give me some insight into this? Should I be concerned, more careful to wear sunglasses, and so forth.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have sort of an odd thing that has been going on for a couple of years. Every time I go out in the sun for a while I get really nauseas and weak. Headaches sometimes occur, but not as much as the nausea; my stomach gets really upset and sometimes I vomit. Yesterday it was a nice sunny day and I was outside for about a half hour and it happened. It lasts through the next day as well and is accompanied by even more weakness.
Avatar n tn Prinmary Dr put me on Biaxin due to blood work taken at hospital showing normal WBC count but slightly elevated neutrophils and more decreased lymphocytes. Started Biaxin yesterday; slight improvement, fever last night 100 instead of 101, but headache still gets very strong during the night, had to finally take ibuprofen again at 2am; rash is expanding to trunk. Anybody have any idea of what may be going on?
Avatar f tn In addition, consumers are urged to be aware of the greater potential for a photosensitive reaction when combining ribavirin with one of the above listed drugs known for increasing sensitivity to the sun. For those especially sensitive, a photosensitive reaction may also be triggered by indirect sun exposure, such as light reflected off pavement.
739294 tn?1235689667 I know folks can develop a sun sensitivity from some meds. I've never taken either of these you've mentioned. Years ago I did develop a sensitivity from BC pills. At work I noticed if I sat outside during lunch, by the time I came back in I had a rash all over my arms and face, tiny little bumps just where my skin was exposed.
Avatar f tn My lips swelled up out-of-the-blue a week ago. I'm thinking it was a sun allergy because I'd just come from a 4-day seaside vacation. And, although I was very good with sunscreen on most of my body, I feel I may have neglected my lips. I'm pretty sure it's not a food allergy as I ate very simply that day (I did have a couple walnuts but I'd been eating walnuts all weekend, and most of my life, and nothing occurred.
Avatar n tn I was just searching about Yaz and sun sensitivity. My summer has been pretty bad with trying to stay out of the sun. I get little raised bumps and then it itches. What about you?
Avatar n tn If you're getting more and more sensitive to light, you may/probably have something going on...
Avatar f tn It has gotten better, but now he has developed a horrible sensitivity to the sun. He goes out to the sun, gets really dizzy immediately and develops pain at the top of his head.
Avatar m tn That seems very interesting what is this made up of it sounds like it a chinese herb ..I have some sensitivity outside and always wear sun glasses but not inside .
Avatar m tn Sun sensitivity very true. Sat in the yard under the eaves of the house with no direct sun on me, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses...facial sunburn irregardless. No more sun for a few months that's for sure. Gen 1a, ESLD with severe chirrosis. No side effects except sun sensitivity.
Avatar f tn I have sun sensitivity also. Not exactly the same as yours, but if I'm out in the sun my skin gets so red and itchy, burny. More than just a regular sunburn and I get it if I'm out there for less than an hour with 50 SPF. I have gotten blisters, but since this sensitivity started last year, I don't allow myself to stay out in the sun that long uncovered. I have noise sensitivity also. Sometimes I will get ringing in my ears so loud I can't hear my husband talk to me.
723952 tn?1231857532 they are cyst-busters. I was on biaxin for that purpose (along with another med to kill the bugs after they came out of the cyst), but had a reaction to it after several months; so the dr switched me to flagyl and a different antibiotic. It's a fair question why the dr would give you two cyst busters. Sounds like a lot. Good luck with the new job!! Sounds like a good one.
473083 tn?1256649162 I was not allergic to sun during TX (went to the beach with no problems) but suddenly developed another allergy that caused sun sensitivity at EOT. It went away about 2 weeks after I stopped the med that was causing the sun sensitivity. Just do a test: Go outside in the midday sun for 15 minutes completely covered except for one place, say the top of your foot, or with one sleeve pulled up to the elbow. If it reddens, you're sun allergic, if it doesn't you're not.
Avatar m tn I was just wondering if others also experience sensitivity to sunlight. From about 2 years my eyes have been extremely sensitive to bright lights, especially sunlight, full or partial sun. I can not go outside without sun glasses after few moments. Even i was unable to drive my bike without sunglasses...
4939681 tn?1361299299 I started taking Biaxin 2 days ago for a horrible throat infection. Since then my muscles have been weak and crampy (especially my calves with restless leg syndrome as well). I also am having horrible stomach cramps and nausea and I get an overwhelming metallic taste in my mouth (almost like bile actually). And the insomnia last night was unbearable. I haven't had insomnia in over a year. Has anyone else experienced this with Biaxin?
