There are many medications that are ototoxic to our ears causing hearing loss and tinnitus, some have permanent effects while others have side effects only while taking the medication. On your particular list, Asprin stands out the most. Asprin does cause hearing los & tinnitus as do most of the NSAIDS (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs).

I was taking Biaxin 500mg twice a day for a week and then took the rpr two days later. could this affect the results in any way?

If I was infected with any of the above, would an 8 day course of Biaxin resolved these? And yes it was 8 days and not the usual 10 for whatever reason. 2. I've read on this site that most of these STD's resolve themselves within a few months even without treatment, but other medical and government websites specifically say the exact opposite and say only way to get rid of infection is to seek treatment. Prinmary Dr put me on Biaxin due to blood work taken at hospital showing normal WBC count but slightly elevated neutrophils and more decreased lymphocytes. Started Biaxin yesterday; slight improvement, fever last night 100 instead of 101, but headache still gets very strong during the night, had to finally take ibuprofen again at 2am; rash is expanding to trunk. The doc said my ears were clear and to just pinch my nose closed and blow to try and relieve the pressure. I would that and if it doesn't help or it hurts really bad then go in. Doesn't hurt to have your ears checked.

We went to a doctor and was given steroids. He went to 3 doctors and each time given steroids. He has no hearing in that ear. The ear drum is not damaged. Because it was so sudden, they say it must be a virus. Is there no hope of regaining the hearing?

In the end, if your hearing loss is permanent, and if there is some residual hearing left, a hearing aid can be worn, to help you hear better, and it will diminish the tinnitus. That said, hearing aids are not a cure for either tinnitus or hearing loss. One more note, I hope they use contrast with the MRI, other wise the MRI will have little diagnostic value.

My hearing loss and tinnitus comes and goes so would a digital hearing aid help? My doctor perscribes hydrocodone-Acetiminophen 5-500 for my severe neck tension and I take 1-1/2 almost every night. Never more than that. But, I noticed hearing seems to be dimmer in my left ear. The ent I went to ordered an MRI and called to tell me that it showed nothing and just blew me off! He obviously is not taking my situation seriously. My LLMD never called me back, so I made the executive decision to stop the Biaxin and start back on the doxy and azith. It was only 1.5 days so I'm thinking no harm no foul.
