I am taking Losartan, which is the generic of Cozaar. Like Benicar (which is not available in generic yet, I believe) it is an angiotensin II inhibitor.
There are usually very few side effects associated with these drugs, but their action on the biochemistry of the body is complex, so anything is possible.
I have Hashimoto's disease, which means I am HYPOthyroid. Before the Losartan, I was taking 90 mgs of Armour (which is T3 AND T4) daily.
and was recently told I have a mildly dilated ascending aorta. The doctor suggested for me to take Cozaar 50mg/day with yearly follow-up testing. I have to say I am scared out of my wits. I am a otherwise heathy person. I do not smoke or drink. After reading some of the posts on this web site I do not feel so alone. My concerns are physical limitations and the eventuality of surgery. I am a police officer and need to be physically fit for duty. This has humbled a tough guy like myself.
t know if I spelled it right) she is on this med for some time now and has big time side effects as in extreme fatigue and caugh. The fatigue is so bad that its hard for her to function. Her doctor REFUSES to switch her to anothr BP med, her doctor says "no way are these side effects from that med, this is the best BP med on the market and I will NOT switch you".
The doctor gave me Benicar 20mg and it helped (so did losing 20 pounds) but my BP was still borderline. Then he increased the Benicar to 40 mg. I am having some strange issues that I think are from the Benicar. When I awake from sleeping I have trouble opening my left eyelid. Once I am up this goes away. Now all of a sudden I cannot put the milk gallon in the refrigerator without using two hands. The weakness is increasing, I cannot raise the jug as high as I could a couple of weeks ago.
I am also on Toprol XL 25mg daily. My Benicar dose was dropped from 40 to 20 mg daily last visit. I am concerned about the elevated BUn as it is indicative of renal issues. I drink more water daily and will see on my next visit to doc in Sep what we will do as a plan if my labs are abnormal. I might add I think these 2 have also elevated my cholesterol and LDL!

My blood pressure has been low, in the range of 90/60 since the surgery but the cardiologist wants me to continue the Benicar. He said it's "good for the heart". Has anyone ever heard of this before? My understanding was that Benicar is for high BP. Also, I have been feeling very down and blue a lot of the time.
I've recently been having terrible anxiety and one of the changes in my life is that I've started taking Benicar 40mg for high blood pressure. I saw on a post somewhere that benicar can cause this. Has anyone else heard of this?
And the reason for your headaches is because you have stopped taking the Cozaar. The headaches are likely to be because your blood pressure is now too high again.
High blood pressure can not only increase your risk of getting a stroke (like ziyanda says), but also increases your risk of getting a heart attack.
Once you are put on medication for hypertension, it is usually lifelong.
My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic.
I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
I am on bystolic,imdur er and losarton.. I had a six to eight week spell where my BP went up quite a bit..I noticed I had put on about 10 pounds and new I was under more stress than usual.. Lost the weight and got life under control and every thing BP wise went back to normal..
Several articles seem to indicate that Cozaar (the ARB class) seems to decrease depression, and appears to have a positive impact on day to day mood.
To me this seems to indicate that the whole area of fibrosis and atherosclerosis/ inflammation and high blood pressure, may be co-related. With drugs that address the underlying factors causing high blood pressure, we may be addressing other problems as well....like ongoing fibrosis, ED, depression, fatigue...
You have symptomatic PVC that need to be treated with a medication called a beta blocker. If that doesn't help you could have an ablation procedure where we target and burn the origin of the PVC. The PVC's aren't typically a sign of a heart attack. Benicar is not causing your PVC's. They are probably related to you blood pressure and the effect that it has on your heart muscle.
I opted for the RAI (3 months ago) and I take cozaar (6 months now) and in these last 3 weeks I am suffering from muscle fatigue, muscle cramps if I stretch them too quickly or exercise them. Could the cozaar be causing the problem or is the disease the problem or both?
Now, as I started to run more seriously I decided to do check up, and got the same diagnosis, but with benicar due to simplicity to take, just on pill per day.
I don't have any other condition, blood sugar are ok, kidney ok as well.
My diet I think is ok. I've lost 17 kg since the beginning of the year, exercising 5 times a week. I stopped benicar for 2 days, and already feeling performance improving.
If you blood pressures are high, it suggests you might need more blood pressure medication or that you are very anxious about the medication change (this can happen). If the benicar was stopped -- it sounds like it needs to be restarted. A generic ACE inhibitor like lisinopril is cheaper and works just as well.
