Common Questions and Answers about Benicar bp

benicar

Avatar n tn My understanding was that Benicar is for high BP. Also, I have been feeling very down and blue a lot of the time. What could be causing this other than the fact that I just (3 weeks ago) had open heart surgery. I feel that it's one or a combination of medications causing this??? Does anyone else have side effects from this combination of drugs???
Avatar f tn Thought we finally found one that worked. The doctor gave me Benicar 20mg and it helped (so did losing 20 pounds) but my BP was still borderline. Then he increased the Benicar to 40 mg. I am having some strange issues that I think are from the Benicar. When I awake from sleeping I have trouble opening my left eyelid. Once I am up this goes away. Now all of a sudden I cannot put the milk gallon in the refrigerator without using two hands.
Avatar m tn Before going into a preparation for a half marathon training, I went to the cardiologist to do a check up, as I know my BP always was borderline to be considered high. I did Echo, Stress tests and 24h BP measurements. Echo and stress went all right, but BP was slightly high, my mean systolic pressure was 133 and mean diastolic was 83, with the maximum during the test being 148 an 100. The physician recommended for me to take 20mg of benicar.
1260320 tn?1270394906 I have been fortunate, Benicar has worked from the first day I took it and works well still today. My 90 day average BP is 108/67 down from 135/85 when I started. I have had no side effects as well, the best of both worlds!
Avatar f tn Has anybody ever experienced something like this: Our daughter in law who is 40 yrs old, otherwise healthy, but has high BP. Doctor put her on Ramiripil (don't know if I spelled it right) she is on this med for some time now and has big time side effects as in extreme fatigue and caugh. The fatigue is so bad that its hard for her to function.
Avatar n tn My dr put me on Benicar 20mg and Toprol XL 25mg to lower my blood pressure. I have a fast pulse too (always over 100). Will these meds lower my pulse also?
Avatar n tn The chest pains got worse and my PCP switched me from the Coreg to Benicar 40mg since my BP was not low enough and my chest pains increased on the Coreg. A new cardiologist did a nuclear stress test and a calcium score test and i wore an event monitor for 21 days.and it came out negative for any problems. I have also had a renal ultrasound, an abdominal ultrasound, cartoid artery ultrasound, x-ray of back and neck and all were fine.
Avatar f tn Sounds like you tried most classes of high BP meds. Benicar is an ARB, which I take, that works by helping your arteries stay more flexible to help absorb each beat. Lisinopril is a beta blocker which works by slowing your heart rate. It's odd that both of these causes a symptom like sinus issues as each works differently. Hydrochlorothiazide is just a water pill that lowers BP by removing fluid from your system which will lower BP.
Avatar n tn About a year ago I was put on high blood pressure medication, Benicar 20mg a day. I have never had any types of heart issue and in the last year have developed or started to notice regular PVC's. I have had them checked out and they are PVC's and they drive me nuts because they make me feel real uncomfortable. Could the PVC's be caused by the benicar?
Avatar f tn If you have time to shed a little light on this, I would appreciate it. After two weeks on Coreg and just a small decrease in BP, I took 20mg Benicar this morning (10mg four hours apart), and my BP went down to 98/60 (normal for me). My headache all but vanished, and I feel limp as a dishrag. Why did Coreg not hit the mark, while little-known Benicar did? Is this an indicator of the cause of my high BP and headaches? Thank you.
Avatar f tn The chest pain has returned and the diastolic pressure is 53.I am currently on benicar hct 40/25 and my bp has been 126/53. Should I stop taking the benicar? Not sure what to make of the chest pain.I am a 48 yr. old female other wise in good health.
Avatar n tn I could tell that my bp was still high and I went to another doctor who prescribed me Benicar for the bp. The headaches became too much to bear again. The closest definition I have found is "primary cough headache", however I am not in the norm of risk factor group. I have been healthy most of my like aside from asthma when I was younger, and I smoke a pack of cigarrettes a day.
Avatar m tn I had my gallbladder out while on Benicar HCT 40/12.5, don't remember being asked to stop. Have you asked your surgeon? FYI, this surgery was a piece of cake. I had an appointment for 9:00 AM and was back home on the couch watching TV by 11:30 AM, pretty cool! Let me know if you have any questions about it.
Avatar m tn I have been seeing my PCP trying to get BP under control. I am able to get systolic down but cannot get systolic under 94. I eat right, exersice every other day, don't drink. Has anyone experienced this?????
159619 tn?1707018272 Just curious, I was started on Benicar HCT 40/12.5 about 3 or 4 years ago at a time when I was at my peak weight, well over 300 pounds, not taking very good care of myself and not exercising. My blood pressure was running around 140/85 at the time. I underwent some cardiac work ups due to some chest pain over that time period including a couple of Nuclear Stress Tests and Echos along with all the blood work that is usually done, all tests were always normal.
1090984 tn?1463769850 I went off because my bp was normal after a year or 2, then one night I had a heavy chest, I took my bp and it was 180/108. What concerns me is my diastolic stays high, in the morning my bp can go down to 120/90, the disatolic remains high. or I get readings of 150/99 to 117/91. I also get high pulse reading in the AM of 111 or with little activity. I am not over weight, I dont smoke, I dont have a problem with my cholesteral. Should I be concerned?
Avatar m tn About your blood pressure, it is very unlikely that you would feel symptoms from a BP of 150/100, while high it normally takes a BP in the 200/120 range to really feel the symptoms. What you describe sounds like it could be the side effects of your meds. Our bodies get used to a certain level of BP and when you start a med and that drops, you can experience the symptoms you describe.
Avatar n tn Diuretics? I have been on Benicar (olmesartan) for many years, works very nicely. Amlodipinealso said to work nicely but may diminish your taste reception.
Avatar n tn I don't think your BP meds would do this. I too had HP, around 150/90 and started taking Benicar HCt 40/12.5, pretty much the same med you are on. My BP now runs 110/70, in fact it dropped almost immediately upon starting the meds with no side effects. Your BP has dropped considerably, but at 130 systolic you are still in the pre-hypertensive range and not yet down to a normal rate of 120/80 so I would not think your BP is doing this to you.
Avatar n tn ve had HTN for years, always well-controlled with meds. Two weeks ago my BP spiked, literally overnight, from ~118/74 to 210/116 (yes, I know that;'s dangerous!) At the time I was on Benicar 40 mg. I added amlodipine 10 mg (my doc trusts me to self-titrate) and that helped somewhat--down to ~160/92. Then she added spironolactone 25 mg (that's a diuretic). It's come down to 118/72--and I expect it will continue to drop, and I will taper off on the meds.
Avatar m tn s off and on and my HR is 55-58bpm. BP also unchanged. The only meds I am taking is Benicar and Multivit. I am not a huge coffee drinker and have not had any unusual stress factors lately. I am a runner a have run in the last Chicago Marathon: 4h08:00 without any difficulties cardiac wise! I have not been running as much since the holidays. Maybe once or twice a week. These symptoms appear while at rest. I must admit that I had a bad cold during the holidays that has resolved.
Avatar n tn Low blood pressure starts at 90/60 and is not really a concern unless it gets below 50 for a diastolic reading. My BP is often around 90/60 and goes as low as 90/55. If you have exercised within the last 2 to 4 hours your blood pressure will also be low. I am on Benicar HCT for my blood pressure and my doctor has told me to take it twice a day on occasion. If you are concerned or feeling light headed or weak you should call you doctor's after hours service to see if they have any input.
Avatar m tn I started bp treatment at 21 eith Benicar, my insurance stopped covering Benicar and I switched to Lisinopril, I then started having erection problems. At this point my doctor switched me to HCTZ and took me off the lisinopril, the erectile problems improved for a few days and then went back to the same I have NO MORNING ERECTIONS.
Avatar f tn Ordinarily, I take benicar (medoximil olmesartan) 20 mg to control my BP, which is normally in the range of 110--130 / 70--80. I measure my BP at home using an Omron Intellisense meter. I do a brisk 2.5 mile walk several times a week, and I also go to the gym, usually 1x or 2x/week. Here is an interesting fact: I fast twice a week (non-caloric liquids, no food calories), from dinner Monday to breakfast Weds, then dinner Thursday to b'fast Saturday.
Avatar n tn I am currently on 5 mg of Benicar, an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker. My physician suggested AM and PM resting measurements, so I have many numbers. From 1/1/13 through 7/31/13 I find the following: 9.2% of 392 readings were 60 mm Hg or lower 16.6% of 392 readings were 141 mm Hg or higher I also checked the DIA/SYS ratio, reasoning that for 80/120 the ratio is 0.667 For 198 AM readings – the average SYS/DIA ratio is 0.608 and 60% are within +/- 0.
