488198 tn?1493875092 Until sometime in 2007, I prepared for injections by taking a rubber cap off the prefilled syringe end and placing a needle over that end. Avonex then started shipping prefilled syringes with a luer lock device; I break a cap off the end and then sort of screw the needle on. I’ve uploaded a photo to my profile page displaying the old and the newer syringe side by side. The newer one has the white collar. The Avogrips also are pictured.
Avatar f tn Well I Have 3 wks. left of the prefilled syringes., then I start with the pen... Yes I hope my experience will be just as good as yours and sidesteps. I was previously on copaxone for 2 yrs. during that time I had at least 4 flare ups. This is my first run with an interferon and I'm hoping avonex will be my last. I took my last prenisone pill after taking them for 4 wks. So I'm looking forward to using avonex.....
543518 tn?1245322027 I've done both the PegIntron RediPen and the Pegasys prefilled syringe (currently doing the Pegasys) The PegIntron RediPen looks like some space aged plastic gizmo whereas the Pegasys prefilled syringe looks like your average everyday "shot". With the RediPen you actually turn a dial at the bottom to adjust your dose and the syringe you follow the measurement markings on the syringe. The needle on the RediPen seems to be just slightly shorter.
Avatar f tn Pegasys prefilled syringes are 27-gauge 1/2 inch needles. Neupogen prefilled syringes are also 27-gauge 1/2 needles.
2015036 tn?1332997788 Do you have any trouble when you "draw back"? The Avonex nurse said that if I get any blood in the syringe, the company will overnight another kit to me the next day. With all the blood vessels in our legs, it seems like this could happen a lot. Also, why do we have to "draw back" with the type you mix yourself, and not with the prefilled?
405855 tn?1217100767 5mL singe dose prefilled syringe is what you should take. A vial is a small usually glass jar/bottle with a septum (rubber plug) that allows you to withdraw a dosage by needle. It is not the same as a prefilled syringe So the nurse said the 250ug/0.5mL syringe is the right dose?
Avatar m tn How is Pegasus packaged, this is what i will be using if i decide to go ahead an TX on the 25th of this month.I was told its pre mixed in the syringe...if its premixed....doe that mean it can spoil faster ...how long will it last in the fridge ...i liked the pegitron fat syringe...just dial and shoot.
Avatar m tn I have been having fears about contracting HCV, HIV or HBV but not by the normal ways because I am not involve in risky behaviors, two days ago I went to the pharmacy here in colombia to get a tetanus shot.
Avatar m tn The vaccine was prefilled (Sanofi-Aventis) the syringe prefilled was sealed inside the box, but my fears are because the girl did not use gloves and she did not wash her hands (Her hands did not have visible blood or cuts), there were not other patients before me at least for 7 min that I was there.
Avatar f tn Withdraw the needle and throw away the syringe and needle in the punctureproof container. Then use with a new prefilled syringe and prepare a new injection site. If no blood is present in the syringe, inject the medicine by gently pressing the plunger all the way down the syringe barrel, until the syringe is empty.
Avatar f tn Or are you having to fill a syringe from a vial? I ask because normally there are not too many bubbles in a prefilled syringe. With the PegIntron Redipen I just point and push. No bubbles to get rid of and no pulling back to see if you hit a vein. Plus the added benefit of a 30ga needle. I do not think you should dose early or double up. Too, if you are taking the Pegasys, it is not weight based.
Avatar m tn Also, when you guys stick in the needle do you usually pull back the syringe slightly to check for blood in case you hit a blood vessel? My educator/nurse at the U of M hospital told me this really wasn't necessary because in the places I'm injecting there really isn't anything to worry about. What are your opinions? My last question is what are you favorite places to inject?
Avatar f tn DX on 2/14...started Avonex last week with nurse helping and did fine. This week I thought I did okay but noticed the plunger did not go completely down. It was the 1/2 dose. Since I am inclined to over analyze, trying not to panic. Figure I'll be taking more next week...but since you all seem like you know your stuff...thought I'd ask the experts. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I had rashes and itchiness with the Avonex prefilled. So far, the kind you have to mix is working well for me. I guess it's usually the preservative that is the allergen. You can be allergic to interferon, but it's pretty rare. Rebif uses the same preservative. First I'd try the Avonex you have to mix, and if that doesn't work, I'd look into Betaseron. Good Luck!
Avatar n tn It is one of the injections that is given IM (intramuscular) once weekly. I do both arms and both thighs. It comes in a prefilled syringe so there is no mixing. I hate needles so I had my doctor write a prescription for the 1inch needles instead on 1 1/2 that come with each dose. I had flu symptoms for the first 2 shots. I alternated tylenol and advil all day and night during the first 48 hours after each shot. I had chills and body aches that would wake me up if I didn't.
Avatar n tn I just called my local pharmacy to get the price of my Avonex prefilled injector pens. For a one month supply which is 4 pens it cost $20, 456.00! That's $245472.00 a year! Thank God for insurance. With insurance I pay an $80 co-pay. We need a cure!
Avatar m tn I must admit that last time on tx I felt the same thing as there was always medicine left over in the prefilled syringe and I always wondered if I was getting the full amount. So, I am going to mention this to my supervising nurse and get her feedback. I would say it was pretty imperative to get your full dose wouldn't you, given how lengthy and expensive this treatment is. I'm also going to ask for the vial that you draw up yourself for the rest of my tx.
1168718 tn?1464983535 wow, it was a prefilled syringe...... \I did not know there was another kind, NO ONE has called me, or suggested anything either. I just wanna cry........
Avatar f tn t go over this and no directions ome with the actual equipment - just drug info. I feel stupid asking this but we are both struggling with the prefilled syringes - putting the needle on and taking off the cover. I am afraid that I will lose the medicine by plunging it by accident or breaking the glass syringe. I am also quite clumsy and last time I stabbed myself on the top of my finger which also freaked me out - keystone cops around here!
577132 tn?1314266526 I have had nothing but grief from the prefilled syringes for the past 42 weeks. Over here in NZ we use ones with a red plunger and a clear needle guard. There is always a significant amount left over after each shot. And yes, I depress fully, and I leave it in situ for 10 secs before I withdraw the needle to prevent leakage from injection spot. I brought this up once before and had two conflicting opinions presented to me. 1: There is extra added to compensate for the plunger mechanism.
1976414 tn?1326171323 0 mL vial or 0.
Avatar m tn I don't think you can pull back the redipen (prefilled syringe) back so I assume it can't be that serious if you do get a small vein. The neupogen needles I have are not only longer but thicker gauge, they seem to need some force to get them through the skin. I think I hit blood with that when I injected the first and only time so far, but the pharmacist didn't tell me to check for blood so I injected regardless. Nothing serious happened.
1140169 tn?1370185076 Hi Mike, I can not answer as I take Avonex - Autoinjector as I swtiched from syringe....really just wanted to say hello...how are you. I CAN say although I inject in muscle for my med...I am kinda torn and like both.. BUT HEY!!! Hi and how are you!
577132 tn?1314266526 He read me an internal memo that states each prefilled syringe of Pegasys has 1.6ml of fluid to deliver 1.5ml of medicine. This overfill compensates for the syringe mechanism. Well, that certainly makes me feel better! It means we are getting our full amount of medicine in each shot despite what appears to be left over. The other great thing is the guy actually took the time to work it all out with me, didn't think I was a whacko-caller.
Avatar f tn I take Avonex which is inter-muscular and they told me that after the skin there are no nerve endings. Many times I don't feel anything but sometimes it just seems to hurt more. Last night was one of those times. I wonder if my menstrual cycle has anything to do with it? I tend to deal with this by "forgetting" to take my shot. Any advice to make this easier would be appreciated.
