Avonex liver damage

Common Questions and Answers about Avonex liver damage

avonex

439601 tn?1357860886 Neuro doc has all the blood work from the last year and it will show high levels if the avonex caused it. I will keep you informed, but he did tell me Avonex has a tendancy to raise you liver enzimes. Which to my ears means Pancreatitis at the least! I know he will pull new blood levels which include liver, will keep you informed after I know for sure the outcome. By the way-the rep's at Avonex will not leave me alone...lol I refused to tell them anything until the doc tells me.
Avatar f tn If you stay on the Avonex I would ask your doctor to check your liver function and other levels with a blood test every 3-6 months for the first year to make sure your body is handling it well. Are you having any side effects now from the Avonex, such as depression, flu-like symptoms, etc? I am on Avonex now and the website is helpful. Also, did you get an info packet when you started? I found that helpful, too. Why do your doctors think its MS? Have you seen an MS specialist?
387113 tn?1313512083 m thinking of starting Copaxone cuz little to no side effects and its not metabolized through your liver. But, does it slow the progression of the disease like Avonex? Im a full time RN student and working in the ER this summer so I dont want flu like symptoms stopping me and I dont want to damage my liver. What do you guys think?? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I've not heard about damage from Avonex. In any case, I wouldn't advise anyone to just stop taking any medication without consulting your physician.
1896537 tn?1381900009 t flu-like side effects and the risk of liver damage is less (my dad died of liver failure after taking immunosuppressants) The only thing putting me off is the injections themselves as I've got very bad hyperhidrosis in my hands and am scared the needle will slip or something. Would Tysabari be a better choice for me in that case? Help please!
923105 tn?1341827649 t go prepared with facts, so continue to collect accurate information. Ess is (of course) right on about the potential for liver damage. Interferons can cause it. Alcohol can cause it. I bet mixing the two more than doubles the risk. Alcohol shouldn't be mixed with Baclofen, antidepressants, pain medications, etc. You are right -- It simply isn't helpful in the long run.
Avatar f tn I think I can handle flu-like symptoms, but I what about possible liver damage (I only have one liver!), heart problems, skin damage, drop in white blood cells (I'm pretty sure that I need those!), throat constriction, etc. It seems like a majority of people are on Copaxone, but I hate the idea of DAILY injections. Some of the meds are only once a week or three-times a day which sounds more manageable. Is anyone on here on Gilenya? Any feed back that you could share?
233622 tn?1279334905 ( It is from the ON, which is not active right now, but there is optic pallor and permanent damage. crud................... I have my next MRI the end of next month.
Avatar f tn Yes, I think you really need to report this to your neuro. Are you being monitored for liver problems since starting Avonex? That's always a good idea with this med, since the enzyme levels can get fouled up. I also get just the usual effects from Avonex (on it 4 months), but I've learned how to minimize them and so am doing very well thus far. Please talk to your doctor and let us know what you find out.
97654 tn?1214348650 Hi, I was recently diagnosed with MS and had my first Avonex injection Friday. Friday night was tough (fever, chills, pain and eventually heavy sweating) but I felt pretty good by Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon I started feeling kind of down and by Sunday morning I feel even more so. I can't decide if this is a result of the drug or just the situation as a whole.
Avatar n tn I have been on Avonex for 10 years. I am feeling pretty good. Very few ms problems. My gait is somewhat labored, I have intention tremor in my hands and some numbness on my left side. I am considering stopping my Avonex becausse of the cost. Have not seen my neurologist yet but want another persons opinion also.
649926 tn?1297657780 I was diagnosed in February of this year and was given a prescription for Avonex that day. I had to have a blood test to check my liver function and my AST and ALT levels were way high, and to make a long story short, they still haven't come back down to "normal" and I'm still not on Avonex. Apparently, liver function tests have to be done every 3 months for the first year on Avonex (or any interferon, for that matter), and they recommend 6 to 12 month intervals after that.
Avatar f tn I also hope that he has been doing regular blood work testing to check your liver enzymes every six months, while being on Avonex. I think it's time to ask your Neuro to check you for the neutralizing antibodies now. I don't know the cost, but it IS a blood test.
Avatar f tn I am so scared I have caused damage to my liver. After I get off of these will it repair itself or am I in trouble. The only syntom I have right now is welling in my akiles and feet. But i have taken fluid pills for the fluid for yrs before I started taken lorcet.
1396846 tn?1332459510 He recommends Avonex because my sister is on that and she is doing great. I am leaning toward Copaxone because it is the one with the least side affects. I am not too fond of giving myself a shot everyday but I don't want to have to worry about liver problems and flu like symptoms either. My sister has been on Avonex for the past 8 years and she is doing remarkable. I love the fact that she is doing well, but I am not fond of the weekly intramuscular shot, I know waaaa what a baby lol.
Avatar f tn I have been on Avonex for the last 15 years and have finally reached my limit. I am taking a 6 week break from the Avonex and will be starting Copaxone at the end of April. I actually have two questions: 1) Has anyone taken a break from their medication for that long (and if so, any consequences) and 2) Has anyone switched from Avonex to Copaxone, and if so, how did you do?
Avatar m tn The recommended dose of paracetamol for a single adult is two standard 500 mg tablets. Researches have reported that the threshold for liver damage to start from a single paracetamol overdose is 15 gms (30 tablets). However liver damage could start to occur at a single overdose of 24 standard tablets or 150 mg/kg body weight, (whichever is the smaller).
Avatar f tn (Former drug user) what are the chances I already have liver damage??? I go in the morning for a liver scan to check and I am nervous to know!!!
Avatar n tn Is it possible to cause liver damage from a few years of pain med abuse? Damage severe enough to cause stomach pains?
Avatar n tn I have been taking Darvocet for about two years now. I began just taking one a week at night after a bad day and it has progressed to 1-3 daily for about 6 months now. I went to the Dr. for a checkup yesterday and the ALT liver function test was high. The other liver tests were normal just that one was high. The Dr. thinks it is from my acid reflux medication and is changing that but I rarely take it. Could it be the Darvocet?

Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me what it's called when you have liver damage from medications
Avatar f tn The only way to truly ease your mind is by being totally honest with him/her. I have liver damage and kidney damage due to drugs stage 2 liver stage 3 kidney.. if your liver were damaged and you had a flare your belly would be extended/pain upper right you would be lethargic/vomiting.. other symptoms but these being severe.. It is not fun and I would not wish it on anyone.. I contracted hep C from slamming and further continued the damage through pills/alcohol..
Avatar n tn I have never been to hospital, I dont appear to have yellowing of the skin or eyes. What is the likly hood of damage to my liver, and if stoped now could my liver possibly recover from and damege.
Avatar f tn Hard to say but if he stops attacking the liver with alcohol, no further damage should be done and some of those numbers should go down at least a little.
1012981 tn?1322603293 My brother has been in the hospital for 12 days for liver damage. His skin and eyes are yellow, abdomen pain and swelling of the stomach. They drained off 12 liters of fluid from stomach area. He's has dementia, no communicating with him that makes any sense. In this situation what is his chance to make it through this? The doctors and nurses are not saying much, but wait and see.
