avonex how does it work

Does anyone know of long-term side-effects of Avonex? I've had about 8 or 9 injections so far - was diagnosed a few mos. ago. I will see the (MS) dr. in 2 days, a 3 month follow-up visit. Does anyone know of any questions I should ask her? Thank you very much! I appreciate any feedback.

As you said it was happening before you took Avonex it is likely that the Avonex has exacerbated this and made it worse. It may lessen after a couple of months. Up until recently, although I have MS I really didn't have much pain, but lately I am stiff, my back hurts in the hip areas and I am just generally achy. I don't take any meds so this is entirely what is going on in my body, presumably with the MS. It lasts a week or so and then goes away.

thanks for the suggestion of avonex assistance. I have 3 regular injections left so I hope they can work it out before they are up!! If any of you get to use it before me...please let me know what you think!

Having had 400 shots of Avonex, I have to disagree with Lulu54. At 18-24 hours after the injection, if I'm not feeling good, it's usually because I didn't sleep well or sleep enough in the window 6-12 hours after injection, when the worst of my side effects tend to hit. I normally take acetamenophen and remove the Avonex from the refrigerator an an hour or two before the shot on Friday evening.

Never worked for me but, it does for some so definitely worth a try.

But, at this point anything is better then the side effects of the Avonex. I will let you know how it goes.

I am starting the slimfast program tomorrow. My question is does it really work? I am also in a wheel chair..But i do get my legs walking 1 or 2 hours a day .

Keep us posted to see how you're doing! If it works I'll try it when I'm close to my due date or over due..does it taste gross? Or does it just end up giving you a ton of gas??

In addition, he works in a very high pressure job and I am concerned that this may leave him sidelined from work (in an environment that he does not want to open up to about the situation yet).... I know many have had similar concerns but really just looking for some support. THANK YOU!

I think you may be on to something with the pre filled syringes. I mix my own avonex and it is incredibly simple with how they give you a weekly kit. Hope it's a simple fix and you can stay on avonex!

Any ideas about how to deal with Flu like symptoms and is it working for the ones taking it?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone who has taken both Avonex and Rebif could give some input here. I have been taking Rebif since this past June, but have started to wonder about how Avonex would compare side-effect-wise. As they are both interferons, I would think they would be similar, but I'm not certain. The idea of once a week sounds nice in comparion though, so I would like some actual first-hand knowledge. Thanks!

My neurologist said he is going to treat me with Avonex.Is anyone on that and does it cause you any side effects?Does it seem to work good as far as spacing out your episodes?Any info would be appreciated, thank you.
