Common Questions and Answers about Avinza medication drug

avinza

Avatar f tn Hello Again Pam, I recall your post asking about the Avinza a bit ago and the following was my response: "This came from a trusted Medication website regarding avinza: "When used for an extended period this medication may not work as well and may require different dosing." You most certainly can build a tolerance to Avinza, or most any drug. Tell the NP to use her Taber's Manual to verify the information she is giving your daughter. Actual RLS is not caused from withdrawal.
Avatar f tn anyone have any problems with Avinza? (morphine sulfate extended release). My dr said that it had an antagonist that made it non addictive. He prescribed it to me alone with Norco (high dosage)- I stopped taking both, and it's been 6 weeks, but I'm still struggling.
Avatar m tn Has anyone had any withdrawl problems with Avinza if they miss one day of medication??
Avatar m tn Hi Ponch, I, too, am reducing my meds since my surgery in September and wanted to get some of my Fentanyl reduced down. HOWEVER, I'm doing it with my Dr.'s blessings so that I KNOW what I should do IF my pain flares up. That way you have a PLAN in place and it will be accomplished with the LEAST amount of pain and so far with me NO WITHDRAWAL at all and that's reducing my Fentanyl Patch - which is supposed to be one of the most difficult ones to lower.
Avatar m tn I had never heard of this drug before, so I looked it up. Avinza is indicated for the management of moderate to severe pain when a continuous, around-the-clock opioid analgesic is needed for an extended period of time.
Avatar m tn t mention whether or not he is an addict and has been abusing his medication. If so, then Avinza is not for him. Tell you what, MH has a pm community where you may get additional help and suggestions for his situation. I have provided the link to that community below: http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Pain-Management/show/53 Good luck. I hope your friend finds help.
Avatar f tn it is similar to trazodone in ways//anothe sleep dpression like drug/and yohimbee which is not a rx drug but is also a dopamine enhancer..after u r on it for a while, the sedative effect lessens...so ur dr is either rx-ing it to u for depression, anxiety/and or sleep....make sure of the spelling..
374225 tn?1269899262 Someone (a friend of mine) has asked me if it's safe to cold turkey... stop Avinza. They've been on it for a month. They want to quit. I know nothing about any of this at all (quiting or Avinza). I figured I'd ask here and then kick his behind to his HCP so he can get a straight answer. He's probably not "supposed" to be taking it and probably doesn't have an HCP to talk to. This is complicated stuff... trying to quit... man...
Avatar m tn My PM doctor's nurse put me on various drugs until Avinza, then I stayed on it for the last few years. I have severe, life threatening Respiratory problems and my memory is getting much worse. I am 100% disabled from a car wreck. I am medically retired. My wife is here with me, so I am not alone. I got my dosage down from a high of approximately 450-500 mg a day to 30mg of Avinza a day. Oxycodone is for BT pain. I took my last Avinza at 10pm Sat, July 19.
Avatar f tn I will see my pain manangement doc in 2 weeks. I ahve been on avinza 90mg for 2 years. Xodol for breakthrough pain for 2 years. My pain level is increasing and the xodol does nothing for my break through pain. Any ideas what options are available for me.
Avatar m tn ADDITIONALLY, PATIENTS MUST NOT USE PRESCRIPTION OR NON-PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS CONTAINING ALCOHOL WHILE ON AVINZA THERAPY. CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL WHILE TAKING AVINZA MAY RESULT IN THE RAPID RELEASE AND ABSORPTION OF A POTENTIALLY FATAL DOSE OF MORPHINE." * MORPHINE IS METABOLIZED IN THE LIVER* You should get off of this one right away and switch to something like Paxill - this all is very confusing to me why any hep doctor would suggest this?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed. Suboxone to avoid WDs from Avinza. Avinza is a continuous release morphine pill that a pain clinic dr prescribed me for severe & chronic pain. I was on a very high dosage of Avinza and could not function. When I asked to get off of it they put me on suboxone. . I wasn't given an option. I've been on it now for approx 3 1/2 years. My 1st attempt to taper off suboxone was he11! I didn't sleep for a month, was in the worst pain ever.
210982 tn?1280983895 Hello! My Dr prescribed me Lyrica and I have been readin about this drug, but I can't seem to find anything telling me what is in it. Does anyone know the ingredients? I was told it was a non-narcotic drug but then the leaflet says that it can be addictive and do not stop immediately..blah,blah, blah...does anyone know what is in this stuff?

Avatar m tn My back start acting up again. I went to my doctor and he mentioned Avenza. He asked if I wanted to be part of a study. Supposedly it's not suppose to be as addicting. I'm thinking yeah right. We've all heard that before. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this medication called Avenza. I told him I would do some research and let him know. I guess you only need to take one pill every 24 hours. As of now I'm just trying to deal with the pain. Not sure what to do.
Avatar m tn My third visit to PM Dr is in two weeks and I am not getting any relief. I take my medicine as prescribed. I went from 10/325 oxycodone 4x a day to 30mg avinza, and now I am taking 45mg avinza still with no relief. My pain remains between 5-8 with 9 most evenings. I dont want to be labeled by telling my doc I am not getting any relief. I am looking for suggestions.
210982 tn?1280983895 Is morphine (avinza) a stronger narcotic than percocet? I have 60 mg tablets of avinza, so if I take one of those, is that like taking 6 of the percocet 10/325?
Avatar f tn s demise being associated with Narcotics. I do not abuse this medication. I have always taken it as perscribed. Now, back on Lyrica, the pain is not managed and ironically enough, Lyrica makes me feel very high. Do we as patients not have any "rights" to say "This is the medication that works well for me, and I would like to have that".
347645 tn?1283220742 Do you have a suggestion as far as medication besides tegretol etc in that family. I hope and pray a new medication or treatment will help once damage is done after surgery. Thank you for your information. I hope more people open up about their TN.
Avatar f tn The best thing to do is talk to your doctor about your pain levels and how it's affecting your life. Then ask if you are a candidate for a long-acting medication and go from there. That way you're not asking for a specific medication, just for the doctor's expertise in providing you with pain relief. When I was put on oxycodone 30mg it was 3x a day with 1 norco for bedtime. The reason being that oxycodone can give some people trouble with sleeping.
Avatar n tn Morphine (MS Contin, MSIR, Avinza, Kadian, Oramorph, Roxanol, Kapanol), is a potent opiate analgesic medication and is considered to be the prototypical opioid. It is the "gold standard" in treating severe pain. Morphine is found in opium, the dried sap derived from shallowly slicing the unripe seedpods of the opium, or common and/or edible, POPPY plant. Natural Narcotics also called Non-Synthetic are derived from the poppy plant which includes Morphine.
Avatar n tn You will discover there are some very strong opinions on which medication is the best. Keep in mind that what works for one may not work as well for another. I wish you the very best. Please keep in touch and let us know what works for you.
906738 tn?1251010478 s a day and liked the Avinza so much better. Avinza is basically 24 hour time release Morphine. I take two 90 mgs caps every morning. And it keeps me from going into wds and gives a good base of coverage.. way way better than I had for the year I was on the patches.
Avatar f tn Hi...I am 49 years old woman with rsd in both hands. Just wanted an opinion on the med's i'm on. 3200mg gabapentin...40mg nortriptylin..( these were both just raised) 60mg cymbalta 15 mg roxicodone..4xdaily as needed...75mg avinza once daily...is this alot of medication? My pain isn't under control at this point. About a month and a half ago my pain mgmt nurse pract had given my lorcet...that along with the 60mg. avinza , gabapentin, roxicodone cymbalta worked pretty well...
Avatar f tn I have been on pain medication for two years due to some problems. I had surgery in April and since then have tapered down off the meds. I was on Avinza 60 and oxy for breakthrough before surgery. I slowly weaned off of them and just finished the hydrocodone taper on Tuesday. My question is this Friday night and Saturday I had to take oxy again due to a cyst. I was just wondering if that would make the withdrawals start again.
Avatar n tn I do not have any experience with Zyprexa. However if your doctor has prescibed this drug for anxiety then I think that it is safe for you assume that it used for anxiety. Does it not mention what the drug is used for on the directions/side affects? They wouldn't prescribe a drug that is of no use to you. I was on a drug called Olanzapine and that had had some bad press about it possibly causing diabetes.
