The medication prescribed to me is Avapro HCT 150mg/12.5mg (Irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide) taken once daily (1 tablet) mainly to help ensure the blood pressure remains under 140 systolic, which is believed to help reduce the pressure on the aorta and root. I am booked in for a second opinion with another cardiologist next week mainly to re-assure myself and my wife (and kids) that things are chugging along okay.
Just diagnosed with a 43% ejection fraction and my doctor prescribed Avapro. Is this the proper treatment?? He gave me samples of 150 mg tablets and said I could cut them in half and just take a half a pill once a day. What do you think about that?

I understand the safe dosage is 300 mg/day.. is this correct?
I have heard it said that 200 mg dosages are best taken at bedtime to reduce the drowsiness as well as the potential dizziness. A 300 mg dosage can be taken in two doses. 100 mg a.m. (2 hrs after eating) and 200 at bedtime. And, from my understanding, it's possible that these side effects MAY go away or lessen when your body adjusts to it.
Perhaps, asking your doc about lowering the dosages may lessen these side effects.
m currently taking Irbesartan every morning and is now controlled well. I enjoy traveling in hot conditions, some days can be up to 39 degrees. Can my blood pressure medication stand such heat if I was to say just put it in my wallet? I'm always traveling to different places and don't always have access to a fridge or ice to take on hand. If not, are there any other heat resistance BP medication i can try?
I am a male 70 years of age. I have been on 150mg Irbesartan and 5mg Amlodipine daily since October 2010. This controlled by BP within acceptable limits. Since late April, however, the systolic has risen to an average of around 150. My doctor wants me to add a beta blocker to the other medications. Since last October my heart rate was averaging below 60. Since late April it is averaging around 70.
I had been taking 150 mg of avapro for 10 years for high blood pressure. I recently lost 25 pounds and was able to maintain my blood pressure on 75 mg. in fact with a home machine my blood pressure is consistently low. It never goes above 106/70 and most often is 90-97/70-75. Would it be safe to stop taking the medication to see if I can keep the pressure from getting high? Or would it be safer to cut the pill in half and if so, for how long?

Hx: Hubby 47 has had HBP for 1 year? systolic(136-150) dyastoic(104 118). Heart rate high 90's or 100 - 110. Took Avapro o/d x 1 month July/08. Stress test after second appt. was okay. Cholesterol ok. BP still up. ie: dyastolic 108 - 118. Ht rate 100 - 120. Hubbies father has MI at age 51 died. Hubbies bro at 49 had a massage coronary and died. (2002). Family doc doesn't seem concerned.
I think his heart rate is too high. His dyastolic pressure is still high.
I have only Humalog to stop spike. But still when I wake up from bed pressure is 170/90/65. I take 300 gm Avapro. After ½ it becomes Ok. But sugar has gone high again. Last 2 days in addition to high pressure, sugar bounces to high value start to shake, I have to eat immediately then but suar goes further high. I habe no medicine to lower sugar at night. When I went to bed sugar was 8.4. To day morning sugar was 9.4, pressure high. Start shaking, sugar went to 11.
Can you please advise if I am taking high blood pressure medication (irbesartan) and Altorvastatin for high cholesteron and I am also taking Tamoxafin for breast cancer (about to come off this drug), is it adviseable to take Leptin Cocoa for health weight loss or would this affect the medications?
Anyway once we discussed the new dosage goal based on the readouts from my tests he decided that it would be ok to go down from 300 mg to 200 mg......but he had me drop to that dosage in just one day. I was vey concerned because i had called my nurse and needed a new prescription.....there was no going down slowly discussion like reducew 25 mg per week or anything.
Well, it sent me into afib and so I just had a cardioversion to deal with that.

put me on lowest dose of Losartan and I got joint pain in my thumbs and then in a knee so I weaned myself off but my BP was very high (systolic) during visit. He puts me on Irbesartan, SAME class of drug, then goes on VACATION. It's the smallest dose and I took a corner of a pill yesterday, no pill today, BP is fine, I'm in PAIN. My thumbs hurt, my right foot and left knee, I don't feel well and then I read that all of this are side effects of this drug.
For someone without diabetes, a fasting blood sugar on awakening should be under 100 mg/dl. Before-meal normal sugars are 70–99 mg/dl. “Postprandial” sugars taken two hours after meals should be less than 140 mg/dl"
Anyone I've ever known with a blood sugar level of 300 needed to be put on insulin to bring it down... If that's what your blood sugar reading was, you should talk to your doctor and have further tests because that's too high...
