Avatar n tn My mother was diagnosed 5 years ago with CAD, CHF, COPD, and also has type II diabetes. She used to be a smoker, but quit 5 years ago. She had angioplasty with 5 stents placed in 2005. Al has been well until a few months ago. She is gaining weight, has trouble breathing, and has been experiencing some chest pains lately (Dr. gave nitro). She is on avandia and I would like to know if this could be the cause of her recent decline in health?

1236243 tn?1277680851 is having noticable adverse side-effects. Rumor monger statements and posts like this one are more scary than it actually should be. One step below crying fire in a crowded theatre. Moreover, it always seems to be a person told me, or it's about someone else. Could this post have been made by a competitor's detail rep? Yes, was it - who will ever know.

Avatar m tn I can understand being put on meds if your numbers are really high, at least until you get things under control but as we are all finding out almost daily the new meds are not being tested as they should be or the drug companies are lying about the side effects so it would seem the Drs ( if they really have our best intrest at heart ) would try the natural remedies first, then if theydon't work go on to meds. Unfortunately that isn't the way it works ------ no money in that!
2053416 tn?1330411192 Actos belongs in class of diabetes medications called thiazolidinediones. In this class are Avandia and a combination drug Avandamet [Avandia and Metformin]. Rezulin is in this class but not much known about it.
Avatar m tn I have diabetes ll. My doctor has given me Actos 30 mg. I have been hearing a lot about this drug and none of it's good, saying long term use causes bladder cancer. My last A1c was 6.1 although now due for another one. I'm not sure the risk involved with this drug is worth the benefits as my sugar is not out of control and my numbers are always under 175. Is Actos a safe drug to use??
Avatar f tn Also, are the Kidneys affected by Diabetes ? I recently had my Urine checked because of burning as I have been subject to bladder infections for years. It was ok. I have Fibro so hard to tell whats causing aching but have been having this burning and aching on both sides of waist but onlyduring the night, also frequent urinating 3-4 x a night but not every night, My readings are usually under 100 and last two averages were 99 so don't think it's out of control.
Avatar f tn Can I take Evening Primrose and Femara together? I'm also taking Avandia. Any thoughts would be great!
Avatar n tn I've been dealing with gerd issues for the last half year. Colonoscopy and endoscopy were negative. I did do a series of rolling barium stomach xray which did show my stomach was on a roller coaster ride. I've been on most of the meds for gerd, from Zantac to Nexium to Lansoprazole to Pantoprazole. In December I started to develope numbness in my left foot and right hand. (Last night I noticed my left anke was swollen.
Avatar f tn Hi I also have fatty liver, and supposedly it can be reduced or even completely reversed with special diet and excersise, just google it and you'll get a load of information. Now I'm not sure if the dieting would help for hep c related fatty liver svr or still infected but it has to be worth a go, right?
Avatar m tn I have to ponder what the dosage of Metformin would be for those who are not insulin resistant or have type 2 diabetes. My husband takes etformin for type 2 diabetes. It controls his glucose levels well and of course without it his reading are very high. Granted he takes (4) 500 mg per day. Wondering if even low doses of Metformin would make someone without IR or diabetes hypoglycemic and if not would low dose Metformin be effective is halting virus replication.
Avatar n tn I am experiencing some weight loss and I am not sure if it due to my sugar, the fact I was taken off Avandia and put on Junovia because I know Avandia increases weight or if something else is happening to me. Also would high blood sugar like mine lead to sweating, tingling in legs and hands and I almost feel like my body is hot...
603046 tn?1279159413 I am a 73 yrs old male, 5'6", 170 lbs. My father and mother (both decease) had age on set Type II diabetes. While in the military for 21 years I've always had "borderline" glucos reading. After quitting smoking, I gained weight and my blood sugar went up to around 200. After retirement from my civilian job in 2003, my docotr placed me on low dosage Avandia. That brought my blood sugar reading down.
Avatar m tn Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes, accounting for 90 - 95% of cases. In type 2 diabetes, the body does not respond properly to insulin, a condition known as insulin resistance. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that regulates how the body converts sugar (glucose) into energy.
466024 tn?1208320081 As far as the Effexor side effects go, the first week or two it really mellows you out and yes, you do sleep a little more, at least it affected me that way. I am now on 75 milgrams and after a couple of weeks you settle into your old routine. Effexor has worked great for me, especially with the racing thoughts and anxiety.
Avatar m tn I've never taken it, but these are side effects you can get from almost any antidepressant. I'd probably listen to your endocrinologist. But you have to taper off this med slowly, not just quit, if you decide to do that. One of the problems a lot of people have is taking drugs for their side effects. Trazadone isn't a sleep remedy, but it had the unwanted side effect of making people very sedated.
Avatar n tn Very sorry to hear you are suffering this side effect. Metformin is in general, a good medication. There are others in the class such as Avandia. You can talk to your doctor about this. You might try drinking more water, eating more fiber (vegetables, whole grains), taking psyllium seed fiber and walking regularly. Each of those can help. Of course, there is always the laxative option but it's best to try the others first. Take it with meals, this helps.
Avatar n tn I have Diabetes the doctor has given me NEOGAB 100 mg at bed time .. what are the side effects ?
709686 tn?1277432159 I understand that we all can experience different side effects to certain meds but was hoping someone could tell me what, if any, side effects they experienced while taking Prilosec or Zegerid. Both meds are basically Omeprazole. I also noticed that, in my opinion, my doctor had me on WAY TOO MUCH. I was prescribed 40mg twice a day..EVERY DAY! I've seen that the most common script is written for 20mg a day for two weeks.
Avatar f tn seek immediate medical attention if you develop any serious symptoms or side effects. and that these side effects may only occur infrequently, BUT SOME MAY BE FATAL. would this statement not really get you thinking.I never had any serious deseases but thought that the hep c would kill me. how irronic. those serious side effects are all that occur in our bodies, for some of us. I never experienced any thing like this before on the treatment.

95361 tn?1219870284 I take Metformin 850 x 3, Januvia 100mg (only for about the last two weeks) and just started on Avandia 4 mg for diabetes. My other meds are for thyroid, GERD, potassium, generalized dystonia (levodopa). Is this something I should be concerned about? I see my doctor in a week and a half, but do I need to contact her before then if this happens again?
