Common Questions and Answers about Avandia and diabetes

avandia

Avatar m tn Considerations In 2008, a joint medical panel of members from the American Diabetes Association and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes released a statement advising against the use of GSK's diabetes medication, Avandia. This came one year after public charges of cardiac and liver safety were leveled against GlaxoSmithKline regarding the drug. GSK continues to maintain that Avandia is no less a threat to the liver than its competitors.
Avatar n tn She is gaining weight, has trouble breathing, and has been experiencing some chest pains lately (Dr. gave nitro). She is on avandia and I would like to know if this could be the cause of her recent decline in health?
Avatar m tn my researcher is in pisa and this TZD research is in florence so these doctors know each other or work together and i will be able to tell you more about both avandia and its combo with nucs
2053416 tn?1330411192 Actos belongs in class of diabetes medications called thiazolidinediones. In this class are Avandia and a combination drug Avandamet [Avandia and Metformin]. Rezulin is in this class but not much known about it.
Avatar m tn I use Actos, but for some reason my fingers typed Avandia. Our FDA went through the same review on Avandia recently, and reluctantly left it on the shelf; however, it is used only when patients are found refractory to other, similar drugs, I believe. FlGuy, although I was down to 185 pounds at one point during treatment, I’m currently the lankiest 6’ 0” 250 pounder you’ve ever seen :o). I’ve always led an active lifestyle, so I don’t fit the sedentary profile of typical DM II patients.
Avatar m tn [copy/paste] "For reasons still not identified, the long-term use of Actos weakens the respiratory tract’s immunity. This results to throat and respiratory infections like sore throat, sinusitis, coughs, and colds." Use with caution if you have heart issues. Also, Avandia is the other drug that falls into this classification. The FDA warns not to use Avandia for first time users, in fact, the FDA severely restricts its use.
1236243 tn?1277680851 ve been on Actos for 9 years and have no problems. Avandia is effectively off the market but ACTOS was not removed. The diabetic educator should know better that suggest someone get off a drug. Suggesting that he/she contact their M.D. was a good idea, but not necessarily required, unless the 'one man in the class' is having noticable adverse side-effects. Rumor monger statements and posts like this one are more scary than it actually should be.
603046 tn?1279159413 t mention anything about your diet and exercise which are very important factors in controlling diabetes. What about your weight? As you discovered in the past, if you get your weight down a bit, it will also lower your blood sugar. Having said that, yes, your numbers are creeping up. Your fasting should be under 100 and your non-fasting under 140. If you are averaging 150, that means you are higher sometimes. I'm a bit unclear on what your doctor has been saying for the past four years.
Avatar m tn Hey guys I was looking up information on diabetes and I came across this article about doctors lying to their patients about diabetes treatments. The article also goes on to talk about natural cures for diabetes. I didn’t know this but there’s a rule that doctors are not allowed to talk about natural cures or anything “termed” a miracle cure to there patients even if they believe it the best means of treatment. I was shocked when I saw the STATS on diabetes in America. It’s really horrific.
Avatar f tn Can I take Evening Primrose and Femara together? I'm also taking Avandia. Any thoughts would be great!
Avatar n tn I am experiencing some weight loss and I am not sure if it due to my sugar, the fact I was taken off Avandia and put on Junovia because I know Avandia increases weight or if something else is happening to me. Also would high blood sugar like mine lead to sweating, tingling in legs and hands and I almost feel like my body is hot...
95361 tn?1219870284 I take Metformin 850 x 3, Januvia 100mg (only for about the last two weeks) and just started on Avandia 4 mg for diabetes. My other meds are for thyroid, GERD, potassium, generalized dystonia (levodopa). Is this something I should be concerned about? I see my doctor in a week and a half, but do I need to contact her before then if this happens again?
Avatar n tn Due to our insurance company copays, we are spending more per month on diabetic supplies than we can afford. Is there a pharmacy that will accept what the insurance company pays and not require the copay? I know such things exist for Type 2 on Medicaid, but what about for type 1? Thanks!
Avatar f tn t respond to oral meds, and/or the diabetes progresses very quickly. Type 1.5 is autoimmune and may occur in thin people. losing weight doesn't help much or for very long. Type 1.5 is usually treated with insulin fairly early in the course. Here's some more information:- Type 1.5 Diabetes aka Slow Onset Type 1 and LADA Type 1.
Avatar f tn I'm a G3 and I've read that G3's are more likely to get fatty liver, and that it does improve after tx. I can't be sure about G2's, but, if you are SVR, your liver should improve slowly over time if you look after yourself and I would hope that says the same for fatty liver. I'm hoping to have an ultrasound soon, so I can check on progress.
Avatar n tn shtml There are sooo many variables to managing diabetes and it is frurstating -- sometimes for long periods of time. I hope this msg is a bit helpful for you, and that you'll check back here again, too because others will likely share their views. In recent days there've been some posting from other Type 2s and you might find some additional help embedded in the responses to their questions. Waddya think?
Avatar m tn ) I got a meter and tested wrote it down and what I eat. Know what I found out... it Carbohydrates that raise BG ALL carbs raise BG even whole wheat will raise BG. I am on insulin AND I eat LCHF diet (Low Carb High Fat) I have eaten that way for 15 years. works for me. you need to get control of your diabetes. Uncontrolled BG will lead to many nasty complications. Good BG will lead to NO complications.
Avatar n tn That sounds like it should be good for you if you are ovulating on your own and aren't having any other problems. I was on femara and avandia (for PCOS), and I had to have a trigger shot (because I don't ovulate on my own). But I got pregnant on my second month of femara (with IUI). And that was after 6 years of trying and being on clomid for a really long time. So I really believe in femara!
Avatar f tn I have PCOS also, and I am currently 20 weeks pregnant. I was put on avandia (similar to metformin), femara (similar to clomid), and a trigger shot to help me ovulate. I also did IUI. But I got pregnant on my second cycle of this combination. This was after trying for 6 years, but only 9 months with a reproductive endocrinologist. So I would suggest that if you do have PCOS, and you aren't currently seeing an RE, to go see one.
Avatar n tn We hear from many people who want a clear label of type 1 or type 2 diabetes, and for many people, the situation is really something in between the two. The label is really not as important as that a1c level. It sounds as if you and your doctor are doing all the right things to keep you healthy.
