Avatar m tn they have been in the news for some controversial reasons: increased risk of heart attacks, and for having GSK funded doctors on the avandia approval board, etc... I'm not making definitive statements that avandia is bad (or good)... just explaining my reasons for being cautious until lots of other people (who need it more urgently... for diabetes, etc.) try it out.
Avatar n tn s findings that Avandia may increase the chance of heart attack by almost 50 percent. The troubling part about the government's sudden change of opinion regarding Avandia is that it comes several years after researchers had warned about the problems associated with using the drug.
Avatar f tn The last two days I have had readings of 60 and 54. I do not usually test in the mornings but since i had the one low of 60 I decided to check again this morning @ 7:15, slept in for once. Wondering if my moniter could be failing to register correctly? I did not feel shakey or ill. Also, are the Kidneys affected by Diabetes ? Avatar m tn C-Span? All they do is set up a camera and let people see what other people are saying and doing. C-Span itself has no input into that. You mean you'll never watch a legislative hearing to see what you're government is doing, or never watch a book review moderated by someone with no axe to grind? I mean, people on C-Span will say things you won't like, but C-Span just sets up the camera or hosts the call-in, they don't say the things you don't like.
Avatar m tn Considerations In 2008, a joint medical panel of members from the American Diabetes Association and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes released a statement advising against the use of GSK's diabetes medication, Avandia. This came one year after public charges of cardiac and liver safety were leveled against GlaxoSmithKline regarding the drug. GSK continues to maintain that Avandia is no less a threat to the liver than its competitors.

Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.
Avatar n tn Also go on the websites of the manufactures, sometimes they have coupons for a % off your bill. When I joint the avandia program I got a couple months free avandia, plus they send coupons at times. Also ask your md for samples. I use to work at a doctors office and we got enough samples to open a pharmacy. Another thing, if your job offers a flexible spending account, I find that is nice as well. it reduces your taxes and you can contribute up to 3000 a year to them. good luck.
1236243 tn?1277680851 ve been on Actos for 9 years and have no problems. Avandia is effectively off the market but ACTOS was not removed. The diabetic educator should know better that suggest someone get off a drug. Suggesting that he/she contact their M.D. was a good idea, but not necessarily required, unless the 'one man in the class' is having noticable adverse side-effects. Rumor monger statements and posts like this one are more scary than it actually should be.

Avatar m tn Also, Avandia is the other drug that falls into this classification. The FDA warns not to use Avandia for first time users, in fact, the FDA severely restricts its use. 535822 tn?1443976780 The New York Post today has said that there is a push for the 9/11 Trial to go to Govenor's Island , A lower Manhatton Community board called on fed officails yesterday to move the trail of the terrorists to Govenor's Island and passed a resolution demanding the shift, in a hearing with Downtown Residents who loathe the idea of the threats that would ensue and the lockdown it would involve, this makes sense to me , what say you ....
Avatar n tn Metformin is in general, a good medication. There are others in the class such as Avandia. You can talk to your doctor about this. You might try drinking more water, eating more fiber (vegetables, whole grains), taking psyllium seed fiber and walking regularly. Each of those can help. Of course, there is always the laxative option but it's best to try the others first. Take it with meals, this helps. Onglyza is another alternative medication idea.
Avatar m tn I watch my diet, walk and exercise daily and have lost abt 20 lbs . My Dr put me immediately on Avandia but with the inexcusable news of the possibility of its affecting ones heart, i stopped using it. My new Dr. questioned my ever being on it in the first place.

Avatar n tn I am diabetic and I have been running 220 on my blood sugar on a regular basis even when I test it in the morning without any food. When my sugar drops to 150, I get really tired, weird feeling in my legs and nauseas. For someone like me who constantly has a high blood sugar is 150 considered low? Also can high blood sugar be related in any way to weight loss?
Avatar m tn ve been on glucophage since the beginning (10 years) , with the exception of a short and nearly fatal foray into Avandia use. I've had all those symptoms for ten years. I also have passed out several times from low blood sugar, something the doctors say doesn't happen on this medication. Ha, ha. Tell that to the Saturday morning crowd at Denny's. I have been told I am an exception and, normally, the symptoms are supposed to fade after a few months.
Avatar f tn But the simplicity also allows people to become complacent or to ask for that little treatment pill they show in the news report without question, which we know all doctors are so well educated on treatment (insert sarcasm here). By the way, that treatment pill they show is Adefovir. Oh yeah, I also wrote Fiona Ma to show my support for her advocacy work. Will let you guys know if I get a reply.
492869 tn?1285018933 the guy in the than plaid shirt is on the side of the CDC and IDSA (Infectious Disease Society of America), who believe that 'Lyme is hard to get and easy to cure'. The other speakers tend to be the dissenters like me and many others here. For those who have had Lyme for a while and have learned the basics already, the videos (which last about a half hour in total) might not tell you anything new...
603046 tn?1279159413 Thanks for the response.I was not given specific times and conditions by the doctor when to monitor my glucose. I tamke it twice a day. Once upon waking up and just before bedtime. My diet has always been the same. I have no problem avoiding fatty foods. I eat lots of fruits and vegetables and prefer to eat chicken and fish. As far as excercise is concerned, nothing regimented but I am physically active most of the time.
