avandia

Avatar m tn they have been in the news for some controversial reasons: increased risk of heart attacks, and for having GSK funded doctors on the avandia approval board, etc... I'm not making definitive statements that avandia is bad (or good)... just explaining my reasons for being cautious until lots of other people (who need it more urgently... for diabetes, etc.) try it out.

Avatar n tn My mother was diagnosed 5 years ago with CAD, CHF, COPD, and also has type II diabetes. She used to be a smoker, but quit 5 years ago. She had angioplasty with 5 stents placed in 2005. Al has been well until a few months ago. She is gaining weight, has trouble breathing, and has been experiencing some chest pains lately (Dr. gave nitro). She is on avandia and I would like to know if this could be the cause of her recent decline in health?
Avatar f tn The last two days I have had readings of 60 and 54. I do not usually test in the mornings but since i had the one low of 60 I decided to check again this morning @ 7:15, slept in for once. Wondering if my moniter could be failing to register correctly? I did not feel shakey or ill. Also, are the Kidneys affected by Diabetes ? I recently had my Urine checked because of burning as I have been subject to bladder infections for years. It was ok.

Avatar n tn Some times you can get 3 months medications for the price of 2 months co-payments. On my mother-in-laws insurance her generics are free on mail order. Also go on the websites of the manufactures, sometimes they have coupons for a % off your bill. When I joint the avandia program I got a couple months free avandia, plus they send coupons at times. Also ask your md for samples. I use to work at a doctors office and we got enough samples to open a pharmacy.
Avatar m tn d expect AMPK to be activated when a cell becomes infected by a virus, because it would sense the increase in energy required to enable the virus to replicate. In such cases, AMPK would shut down certain functions of the cell temporarily until the cell's energy is rebalanced," says Prof Harris. "We found that hepatitis C virus, because it needs lipids and membranes, causes the opposite to happen.

Avatar n tn Metformin is in general, a good medication. There are others in the class such as Avandia. You can talk to your doctor about this. You might try drinking more water, eating more fiber (vegetables, whole grains), taking psyllium seed fiber and walking regularly. Each of those can help. Of course, there is always the laxative option but it's best to try the others first. Take it with meals, this helps. Onglyza is another alternative medication idea.
Avatar m tn I watch my diet, walk and exercise daily and have lost abt 20 lbs . My Dr put me immediately on Avandia but with the inexcusable news of the possibility of its affecting ones heart, i stopped using it. My new Dr. questioned my ever being on it in the first place.

Avatar f tn I was told 7 years ago that I had PCOS. Then just recently I was told I did not have PCOS only because in my blood work they found that I was not insulin resistent. When they told me 7 years ago thats what I had All they did was an ultrasound so please Don't let them tell you that you have PCOS just by an Ultrasound. If they do discover that you have PCOS they might put you on something called Metformin and some sort of fertility meds to help you conceive. I wish you the best of luck.
Avatar n tn I am diabetic and I have been running 220 on my blood sugar on a regular basis even when I test it in the morning without any food. When my sugar drops to 150, I get really tired, weird feeling in my legs and nauseas. For someone like me who constantly has a high blood sugar is 150 considered low? Also can high blood sugar be related in any way to weight loss?
Avatar m tn I've been on glucophage since the beginning (10 years) , with the exception of a short and nearly fatal foray into Avandia use. I've had all those symptoms for ten years. I also have passed out several times from low blood sugar, something the doctors say doesn't happen on this medication. Ha, ha. Tell that to the Saturday morning crowd at Denny's. I have been told I am an exception and, normally, the symptoms are supposed to fade after a few months.
95361 tn?1219870284 I finally went to bed and when I woke up during the night they were still there, but gone in the morning. I have recently changed from Metformin 100 mg x 2, to Coreg 25 mf x 2, and I also take Adalat 60mg, Lisinopril 20 mg and Micardis 80mg. I take Metformin 850 x 3, Januvia 100mg (only for about the last two weeks) and just started on Avandia 4 mg for diabetes. My other meds are for thyroid, GERD, potassium, generalized dystonia (levodopa). Is this something I should be concerned about?
603046 tn?1279159413 After retirement from my civilian job in 2003, my docotr placed me on low dosage Avandia. That brought my blood sugar reading down. I lost a few pounds and after three years of "normal" glucose and glycohemoglobin readings, he took me off Avandia. For the past four years my glucose reading has been fluctuating between 110-140 (fasting) and averages 150 (non-fasting). My glycohemoglobin readings were consistently below 6.5 and my urine read "normal" for blood sugar.

264233 tn?1216342315 Blockages come on very quickly, at least in my case. Keep in mind that a blood clot is probably the problem caused by an eruption of the cholesterol in the artery, and that can happen in the blink of an eye, so to speak. Sorry about your hep c experience. Hang in there.
