i went to the the doctors and tested negative on a rapid strep test for strep throat. i also tested negative for mono through a blood test. they gave a culture to a lab for a more thorough strep test, that has not come back yet. to treat my throat they gave me augmentin (amoxicilin and clavulanate). so far i have taken one pill and i will take another in 12 hours.
on my left tonsil, half of the inflamed tonsil is covered by a flap of skin.

The ESR and CRP are slightly elevated.
HIV test at 4 weeks- negative.
Virus Epstein-Barr VCA IgM-Antibodies are 2066 (normal <20).
After five days,the sore throat was resolved but for only a week. It again recurred and this time the doctor prescribed Augmentin 2g to be taken for seven days. After seven days, the sore throat was resolved completely but then plentiful,tiny sort of pinhead rashes started appearing on my forehead that spread to upper chest, neck and the back. I still have the said rashes till to date but no sore throat.
On the 16th I went back to my doctor and he did a blood test to check me for Mono (still waiting for these results,) as well as swabbed the new bump on my pubic region to test for HSV. He said it didn’t look like herpes, but best to check. He also told me to STOP taking augmentin because if it was bacterial larangytis, it would be getting better by now. I’m now on Valacyclovir for the cold sore on my chin.
Today is the 17th and my throat is still awful.
My usual temp is around 97.2. They put me on 1600 mg of Augmentin and I took that for a week and nothing changed. My neck became worse. My throat wasnt as sore though. So I went back and had a recheck and my fever was at 98.7 then and mono came back negative but he did say my lymphnodes were really swollen. So he gave me a shot and put me on more antibiotics which went on two weeks and then sent me to my ENT. I just had a a TSH done with was 1.40 and my SED was 25.
Strep test neg, mono neg. I am still waiting the results of a mono EBV test. I requested a mono EBV test, because my sister, who I live with, at mono for the second time about 3-4 weeks ago and her monospot test was neg, and the ebv test was positive. I have swollen neck lymph nodes, swollen sore tonsils with white spots on them, some drainage, fever, high white blood cell count.
I have had blood tests done for CMV, HSV, EBV / Mono. All coming back negative. Note that there was open mouth kissing on the 12 and 15th of November. However, it is still too early to test for HIV; but considering there was no sexual activity (oral or otherwise) I have excluded this from the list with the confirmation of the specialist.
I had X-Rays done and no signs of Abscesses (spelling?) . The doctor says he will carry out more tests and is unsure..
I was wondering if anyone else has taken Augmentin. I was prescribed it for a double ear infection. Originally I was given acetic acid drops but they aren't working.
I plan on calling my OB in the morning to double check. They are pregnancy category B. Although they are thought to be safe not many studies have been done on them. I'm nervous about everything. This is my first pregnancy and I am only 18.

t yet developed the infection, as would be indicated by the presence of a lesion or a positive blood test, than it takes for curative treatment. The augmentin taken twice daily for two weeks would certainly cure and prevent development of syphilis. The combination of cefixime and azithromycin would most probably prevent infection but it would not be curative if the infection was established.
Im 33 but 5 years ago, after having my last baby i kept a mild to moderate at times fever for nearly 43 days. I was hospitalized for three and half weeks and kept on an ice water mattress thing and given tyelnol around th clock. Doctors were stumpped..had no clue what the heck was going on with me. Eventually I was released but no certain diagnosos until s year later when it was discovered that I had lupus. They never tested me for that.

It may be Augmentin or it may be something else. I think you should mention this to your doctor.
Although Augmentin kills certain types of bacteria and is used for lower respiratory, ear, urinary and sinus bacterial infections, does not necessarily mean it will get help a sore throat.
To find out what type of bacteria is causing the sore throat and which antibiotic will kill that bacteria is to get a swab taken of your throat to identify the bacteria and then the correct antibiotic will be prescribed.
4 days on augmentin 825 for a chronic dental infection (now a bone infection), I started having major swelling in my hands. This is new, I've never had swelling like this. Yesterday my one hand looked freakishly red and swollen. It was so swollen, that when I straightened out my hand (which was difficult), everything turned white, inbetween the redness.
Anyway, I tried going off the augmentin (I'm taking it in conjunction with clindamycin), and today I feel much less swollen.
I recently took augmentin for three days, had to discontinue because of allergic reaction ( rash, jitters, fever)
Today I awoke with a stiff neck which progressively became worse as the day went on. Now 12 hours later the pain has spread down my back and to all my joints. Could this bee the Augmentin or something more severe.

I have white/clear mucous and have used augmentin and azithromax one course after another (augmentin first and then azithromax) given by my doctor but the cough is not gone. My chest x ray is normal but the doctor could not do a pft because of my continuous cough at that time. My blood work for pneumonia diabetes and cholesterol are all good. sinus CT scan is normal too. Is this viral is it okay to take several months for cough to go away. I have no wheezing or asthma history.
Hi J..may I ask what they gave you augmentin for ? If it was for the winter upper resporitory crap that was going around then maybe it wasn't strong enough. Augmentin is a pretty broad spectrum anti. Maybe ask for Zpack (zithromycin).
The trouble with antibiotics are doctors over prescribe this crap and becomes ineffective as the bugs become resistant.
1) although not preferred, will the Augmentin regimen clear me of anything?
2) how soon could I be accurately tested for STD's?
Hi, Iam 12wks pregnant. I was given augmentin sr tablets to treat a sinus infection. The doc said it's safe but I am scared to take it.
so I took my STD test but before I got the result I panicked thinking of gonorrhea or syphilis and took Augmentin for 3 days. Now the tests are all negative but considering the window period for some STD, should I finish taking Augmentin as a precaution to get rid of the possible infection? Thank you.
My Dr has treated me with Metronidazole- brand name used was flagyl Nylstatin for yeast, clamycin,spandnox (for yeast), and recently had some relief with Augmentin(which was prescribed for a chest infection). When i was on augmentin all the above symptoms went away however came back 1 or 2 days after i came off the anti biotic.
