Avatar f tn How long is a urine specimen shelf life once collected for a cocaine test?
Avatar m tn I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?
Avatar m tn Has anyone tried Lialda? Does it perform any better than Asacol? How much more is your co-pay for Lialda than Asacol. I want to ask my doc to make a switch.
Avatar m tn i was prescribed asacol 2x 400mg, 3 times a day for two weeks. after this time i was also diagnosed with CKD at stage 3a with a GFR of 53 and a creatinine clearance of 87.14ml/min. i took asacol again for one month at a reduced rate of 1x 400mg, 3 times a day (3-4 tablets recommended for prevention of relapse). then i stopped taking it for 2 months. i took asacol again at 1x400mg, 2 times a day for 2 months.

Avatar m tn I'm a 19 year old college student with a healthy life style. I run a lot, because I play soccer every other day I can. I avoid junkfood and fried food as well at times. I recently have gotten sick and my U.C flared up making my new years a horrible one. I'm slowly recovering, but i'm trying to get to work as soon as possible. Anyone can help me out by giving me tips on how to decrease gas and the nausea feeling I am getting. I am on Asacol and take vitamin pills as well.
Avatar n tn I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?

1446077 tn?1284510191 My gastro is now saying I have IBS and there is nothing more he can do. I am taking Asacol 400 3/3x day and Levisin for pain. I have noticed a slight decrease in bowel movements but no decrease in the pain. What else can I do to get relief?
Avatar n tn I have a fifteen year old son who has had asthma all of his life. last year, he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. He's been on asthma meds all of his life and i had just taken him off almost all of them when he was diagnosed with the uc after an episode of bleeding badly from his colon and a ct scan showing innumerable lymph nodes, too many too count being enlarging and the scan reading that the diagnosis was consistent with uc, chronns, or less likely lymphoma.
Avatar n tn Is there a program where my son can get help with his Rx for asacol? He does not have insurance.
Avatar m tn The idea is to get off the steroids asap but make sure the bleeding is stopped. The other thing is to increase the Asacol right away to get the UC under control and adjust her dosage to manage it. If she is still having trouble then she needs to treat it from both ends, so get her GI to prescribe an enema nightly with her regular Asacol orally but it's very important to get her off the prednezone. It's bad taking it continuously.
89592 tn?1391274422 my gastro prescribed asacol...800 mg 2 tabs twice daily. I looked at the drug pamphlet and I see that it can affect liver enzymes. I dont need that since I already have mildly abnormal values. I called my gastro to tell him my concern and he said it would not hurt me. I am supposed to be on them indefinitely. I also take 5 mg prednisone for my r/a. Just wondering how this will affect the liver. I know I am not on the higher side of the doses given but still...
Avatar n tn 20+ years ago I was an energetic, vibrant career woman. I gave birth to a child in 1988 and soon after began feeling just not up to par. I was having increased fatigue and also an increase in my appetite w/o weight gain but did notice paler more frequent, voluminous stools. My GP referred me to a gastroenterologist who found no conclusive causes for my symptoms after checking blood work and a stool culture.
Avatar n tn I have found that the synthetics only have a shelf of about 2-3 years, if that. But Armour has a shelf life of 17 years. Are the Raw thyroids sold on the internet a possibility for me also and are their shelf life as long? I take 120 mcg levothyroxine.
Avatar f tn He was switched from Asacol to Pentasa when his liver enzymes were slightly elevated. He was on a steroid for the first 2 years after he was diagnosed. He hasn't been on a steroid since 2006, when he was diagnosed with Diabetes. The Steroids are more for the flares, the Pentasa is used more as a maintenance drug. He is also on Purinethol, which is chemotherapy agent, to help decrease abnormal growths. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Diagnosed w/ Ulcerated colitus -Asacol prescribed. Have had disease since I was 16 -- I'm now 61. The days and weeks of diahrrea limit my life and activities. Outside of Colostomy, I know there is no cure, but can taking over the counter drugs like acidolphus bring any relief. Taking Immodium Ad only adds to the problem with severe stomach cramps. I know steroid treatment is out there, but not looking forward to side effect.
Avatar m tn Hello all.. 30 yrs old male, been diagnosed today with IBD after a sigmoidoscopy and waiting for biopsy results. Doctor said it is likely Crohn's.
Avatar n tn Had coloscopy in August-showed some mild inflammation in ilieum and rectal area-was put on Asacol. Asacol helped the rectal pain but RLQ pain continued. Went back to ED in Nov for severe RLQ pain. CT and bloodwork normal. I had changed from Asacol to Pentasa the week before and the rectal pain had come back-significant burning pain. Went to another doctor and had more bloodwork-borderline IBD tests. Went off Pentasa for a few days in Dec and had severe RLQ pain and right hand pain.
277836 tn?1359666174 He should also prescribe asacol (2.4g daily) or similar- this should be continued daily- and is an ongoing drug to keep you in remission. If your symptoms are not so severe he should try the asacol, starting at 2.4mg and increasing to 4g if necessary. He can also try pentasa enema or pred enemas before putting you on the oral steroids. You need to get this under control ASAP, as it will get worse, if left untreated. Pred may be a necessary evil but only for short-term use.
1869943 tn?1322654497 Hello. Since April 2011, I have had major issues concerning my digestive tract. Well, I consider them major since I didn't really have this stuff happen to me prior. I began to go to the bathroom over 12 times a day, and all of those times was bloody/mucus. I had a lot of pain, and waited about 1 month before I went to see a doctor. I have had 3 colonoscopies since April. I was having pain on my right side above my belly button, so the dr. thought it was Crohn's.
Avatar f tn My UC has been well controlled over the past 10 years. Four days after my first chemo I went into the worst flare of my life. it has been 5 days now and my usual methods of 12 asacol and 2 rowasa have not helped at all. The GI took stool cultures to make sure that there is not infection. We have not gotten results yet. I am so discouraged and feel like throwing in the towel. I am so sick from the flare these drugs caused.
Avatar m tn Hi Doc: So I've had stomach issues ever since I can remember. Bad cramping, diarrhea..etc. 5 years ago i started to get this discomfort in my upper right abdomen that came and went without any obvious reasoning and was certainly effected by my posture. Oh and i always, since I was 19, had this retrosternal pain that was explained as chondritis. This pain can be manipulted by me and reproduced by pushing or changing position.
