Asacol once daily

Common Questions and Answers about Asacol once daily

asacol

Avatar m tn Though newer to the market. Not to mention just having to take it once a day, rather than 6 or times daily with Asacol. (Still considered by many GIs the "Gold Standard") I tried a run with Asacol (Switched GIs and for whatever reason he wanted me to try Asacol). It made me bleed like a pig and shed like a dog. Went back to Lialda in no more than 6 months time. 25/White/Female.
686769 tn?1236272131 Still, I am in pain almost daily. Every once in a while I have a good day. I am really having a hard time, mentally and physically. I have always been very active, early to rise and then go go go go... Now, I hate waking up because usually my pain is the most severe in the morning, which keeps me from being able to function. Financially, well...you get it...meds are so expensive. My Doc has been great with any available samples, even so, the expense is outragous!
Avatar n tn I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?
277836 tn?1359666174 He should also prescribe asacol (2.4g daily) or similar- this should be continued daily- and is an ongoing drug to keep you in remission. If your symptoms are not so severe he should try the asacol, starting at 2.4mg and increasing to 4g if necessary. He can also try pentasa enema or pred enemas before putting you on the oral steroids. You need to get this under control ASAP, as it will get worse, if left untreated. Pred may be a necessary evil but only for short-term use.
1483944 tn?1288100910 i was diagnosed with Crohns in 2006 and on Prednisolone and Asacol then undiagnosed in 2008 and told I have IBS. I now take IBS medication but it is not working, i am in pain daily right side and have gastroentiritus issues alot as well as bowel issues, Is my doctor wrong? all my investigations are showing nothing,,,,,I am so confused! please help me!
Avatar f tn i believe that pentasa is more for management of colitis once it's under control from steroids like once the steroids bring down your flare up u will continue to take pentasa to maintain your colitis control so you could be on it for quite sometime i have never taken pentasa myself thought they have me on salofalk which i believe is for the same thing, just to keep uc under control. not sure if that helped at all but anyways good luck wishing you the best.
89592 tn?1391274422 my gastro prescribed asacol...800 mg 2 tabs twice daily. I looked at the drug pamphlet and I see that it can affect liver enzymes. I dont need that since I already have mildly abnormal values. I called my gastro to tell him my concern and he said it would not hurt me. I am supposed to be on them indefinitely. I also take 5 mg prednisone for my r/a. Just wondering how this will affect the liver. I know I am not on the higher side of the doses given but still...
Avatar m tn i was prescribed asacol 2x 400mg, 3 times a day for two weeks. after this time i was also diagnosed with CKD at stage 3a with a GFR of 53 and a creatinine clearance of 87.14ml/min. i took asacol again for one month at a reduced rate of 1x 400mg, 3 times a day (3-4 tablets recommended for prevention of relapse). then i stopped taking it for 2 months. i took asacol again at 1x400mg, 2 times a day for 2 months.

Avatar m tn The idea is to get off the steroids asap but make sure the bleeding is stopped. The other thing is to increase the Asacol right away to get the UC under control and adjust her dosage to manage it. If she is still having trouble then she needs to treat it from both ends, so get her GI to prescribe an enema nightly with her regular Asacol orally but it's very important to get her off the prednezone. It's bad taking it continuously.
1446077 tn?1284510191 My gastro is now saying I have IBS and there is nothing more he can do. I am taking Asacol 400 3/3x day and Levisin for pain. I have noticed a slight decrease in bowel movements but no decrease in the pain. What else can I do to get relief?
1869943 tn?1322654497 Hello. Since April 2011, I have had major issues concerning my digestive tract. Well, I consider them major since I didn't really have this stuff happen to me prior. I began to go to the bathroom over 12 times a day, and all of those times was bloody/mucus. I had a lot of pain, and waited about 1 month before I went to see a doctor. I have had 3 colonoscopies since April. I was having pain on my right side above my belly button, so the dr. thought it was Crohn's.
Avatar n tn My GP referred me to a gastroenterologist who found no conclusive causes for my symptoms after checking blood work and a stool culture. Continued to trudge through my daily routines assuming the added responsibility of motherhood was the cause of my sub-par feeling. Fast forward a few years after my GP finding no reasons for my lack of fatigue just tried to make do...
Avatar n tn I wash my face with a gentle cleanser every day and make sure I moisturise daily. My doctor has told me that the Prednisolone is causing the acne, but he's a bit vague. He also told me the Salazopyrin was causing my chronic migraines 2 months ago when I wasn't even on Salazopyrin so I'm inclined to ask for another opinion. Has anyone had a similar experience and also, is anyone else on Imuran? Have you had any side effects?
Avatar m tn I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?
Avatar n tn Is there a program where my son can get help with his Rx for asacol? He does not have insurance.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone. I was originally placed on atenolol 50mg once daily for hyperthyroidism associated tachycardia but was found to have an arrythmia so while my thyroid is normal now, I am staying on the atenolol but have decreased the dose to 25mg daily.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the answer. We are trying Asacol to get it under control. Gastroenterologist says it is crones. We will continue to look at options once symptoms are under control. Thanks for taking the time to answer.
Avatar n tn Had coloscopy in August-showed some mild inflammation in ilieum and rectal area-was put on Asacol. Asacol helped the rectal pain but RLQ pain continued. Went back to ED in Nov for severe RLQ pain. CT and bloodwork normal. I had changed from Asacol to Pentasa the week before and the rectal pain had come back-significant burning pain. Went to another doctor and had more bloodwork-borderline IBD tests. Went off Pentasa for a few days in Dec and had severe RLQ pain and right hand pain.
Avatar m tn The Gastro doc wants to treat me with Asacol, but I am suffering from CKD GFRaround 45%.......I told doc and he said ok entercort would be the alternative. that is also an issue as i am a diabetic I have read that just taking imodium and fiber works quiet often also pepto bismol is this correct, Immodium is what i have been using for the last four years any where from 1/2 a pill per day to 1 pill depending if I have not had a movement for day then i back off until I do.
Avatar m tn Try to stay away from dairy, alcohol, grains (have rice instead). If you can figure out what triggered the flare, that would be helpful so you know to avoid it in the future.
Avatar n tn Hello all, I have Crohns disease, and for about a year have been having some abnormally high liver function tests. The Dr. is changing my medications a bunch (off Asacol, reduced Imuran, etc), and I have abstained from alcohol use (not heavy drinker, but partied hard when I did), but my liver counts have not decreased significantly. I am wondering if my daily Marijuana smoking could be causing the elevated liver functions, rather than the medications or something else.
Avatar f tn Thanks so much for responding. I am taking Asacol for the Crohn's disease. I take 400mg - 6 tabs daily.
