Common Questions and Answers about Asacol not working

asacol

Avatar n tn I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?
Avatar m tn It used to work really well but now does not so I am going to try the Lialda. Asacol already gived me migranes so not too worried about that part with the Lialda.
Avatar m tn I wouldn't take the asacol. It actually caused my UC to flare up every time I took it. I thought it was a coincidence the first few times. However there's no doubt that Asacol exacerbates my condition. I have also developed joint problems which I think may be because of all the asacol I've taken in my life. I wouldn't recommend it. Ask your doctor about Lialda or better yet improve your diet. I'm not talking about just eating right.

Avatar n tn You really need to see your doctors as it appears your medication is not working for you as it is not being absorbed.

89592 tn?1391274422 my gastro prescribed asacol...800 mg 2 tabs twice daily. I looked at the drug pamphlet and I see that it can affect liver enzymes. I dont need that since I already have mildly abnormal values. I called my gastro to tell him my concern and he said it would not hurt me. I am supposed to be on them indefinitely. I also take 5 mg prednisone for my r/a. Just wondering how this will affect the liver. I know I am not on the higher side of the doses given but still...

They dont know if it is from the crohns or all the meds she was on. Has anyone experienced hearing loss she is now being fitted for hearing aids.
Avatar f tn s under control from steroids like once the steroids bring down your flare up u will continue to take pentasa to maintain your colitis control so you could be on it for quite sometime i have never taken pentasa myself thought they have me on salofalk which i believe is for the same thing, just to keep uc under control. not sure if that helped at all but anyways good luck wishing you the best.
1115182 tn?1258760246 0, 2 weeks, 6 weeks, but still had faecal incontinence and failure to put on weight. They also found my pancreas was not working...which is a rare complication of Crohn's. Now on 8 weekly infusions for life....and am getting my life back at last! I am taking Creon enzymes on prescription with each meal and snacks. Your family member should be guided by their gastroenterologist, as there are a number of new anti-tumour factorA drugs around now.
Avatar n tn Had coloscopy in August-showed some mild inflammation in ilieum and rectal area-was put on Asacol. Asacol helped the rectal pain but RLQ pain continued. Went back to ED in Nov for severe RLQ pain. CT and bloodwork normal. I had changed from Asacol to Pentasa the week before and the rectal pain had come back-significant burning pain. Went to another doctor and had more bloodwork-borderline IBD tests. Went off Pentasa for a few days in Dec and had severe RLQ pain and right hand pain.
1869943 tn?1322654497 It was at this point I realized Asacol was no longer working so he changed me to Pentasa 10 years ago and has been fairly normal since except after my bad car accident when I discovered it can be treated from both ends. I took 9 Pentasa per day and a Pentasa enima at night from my bottom end. Now I'm down to six Pentasa tablet per day every day and at the first sign of Diiarhia I use a Pentasa Enima at night for about four nights and I'm right as rain.
Avatar n tn Almost a year ago my husband was working and very healthy. Over the weekend he seemed to get sick and very weak. He had constant diahrea and stomach pain. He went through many tests and they finally diagnosed him with Crohn’s Disease. We have tried several different treatments and nothing seems to be working. However, he also still has many symptoms that are unrelated to the Crohn’s Disease and they are now testing him for other diseases which may be Lupus, MS and or Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Avatar m tn Try to stay away from dairy, alcohol, grains (have rice instead). If you can figure out what triggered the flare, that would be helpful so you know to avoid it in the future.
277836 tn?1359666174 4g daily) or similar- this should be continued daily- and is an ongoing drug to keep you in remission. If your symptoms are not so severe he should try the asacol, starting at 2.4mg and increasing to 4g if necessary. He can also try pentasa enema or pred enemas before putting you on the oral steroids. You need to get this under control ASAP, as it will get worse, if left untreated. Pred may be a necessary evil but only for short-term use.
Avatar n tn after being diagnosed with uc he was placed on asacol 1200mg. 3 times a day, prednisone a couple of times last year, entocort most recently, and asacol enemas at night at times. Just recently he started getting muscle cramps, flu like symptoms with bronchitis and had a glucose level of 169, and a cholesterol level in the high 160s as well. He had had an alkaline phosphate level up to almost 600 for years and stays very fatigued and in pain. i am so worried about him. he is overweight.
Avatar m tn That's crazy man. I'm glad you we'ere able to find out about, attain, and benefit from this medication. I had UC when I was 8 then 3 flare-ups later I had to have a colectomy due to major blood loss. It's sad that we here in the US have such a terrible time being treated with no respect or dignity by those agencies who are designed to protect us and work for our benefit as advocates.
Avatar n tn Hello all, I have Crohns disease, and for about a year have been having some abnormally high liver function tests. The Dr. is changing my medications a bunch (off Asacol, reduced Imuran, etc), and I have abstained from alcohol use (not heavy drinker, but partied hard when I did), but my liver counts have not decreased significantly. I am wondering if my daily Marijuana smoking could be causing the elevated liver functions, rather than the medications or something else.
Avatar n tn I gave birth to a child in 1988 and soon after began feeling just not up to par. I was having increased fatigue and also an increase in my appetite w/o weight gain but did notice paler more frequent, voluminous stools. My GP referred me to a gastroenterologist who found no conclusive causes for my symptoms after checking blood work and a stool culture. Continued to trudge through my daily routines assuming the added responsibility of motherhood was the cause of my sub-par feeling.
