Common Questions and Answers about Asacol not dissolving

asacol

Avatar n tn I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?
Avatar m tn It used to work really well but now does not so I am going to try the Lialda. Asacol already gived me migranes so not too worried about that part with the Lialda.
Avatar f tn A related discussion, <a href="/posts/Gastroenterology/Asacol-800/show/1876778">Asacol 800</a> was started.
Avatar m tn I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?
277836 tn?1359666174 Hi, Ulcerative colitis is disease of exacerbations and remissions. Medications to induce remission are as 5-ASA products (e.g., Lialda®, Asacol®, Pentasa®, Dipentum®, etc.) and prednisolone/cyclosporins. The last two medications have more side effects especially on long term usage. Therefore, you need to discuss with your doctor about the possibility of switching your medication to 5-ASA compounds. However it depends upon the severity of your disease.
Avatar n tn Is there a program where my son can get help with his Rx for asacol? He does not have insurance.

89592 tn?1391274422 my gastro prescribed asacol...800 mg 2 tabs twice daily. I looked at the drug pamphlet and I see that it can affect liver enzymes. I dont need that since I already have mildly abnormal values. I called my gastro to tell him my concern and he said it would not hurt me. I am supposed to be on them indefinitely. I also take 5 mg prednisone for my r/a. Just wondering how this will affect the liver. I know I am not on the higher side of the doses given but still...
Avatar f tn s under control from steroids like once the steroids bring down your flare up u will continue to take pentasa to maintain your colitis control so you could be on it for quite sometime i have never taken pentasa myself thought they have me on salofalk which i believe is for the same thing, just to keep uc under control. not sure if that helped at all but anyways good luck wishing you the best.
Avatar n tn Had coloscopy in August-showed some mild inflammation in ilieum and rectal area-was put on Asacol. Asacol helped the rectal pain but RLQ pain continued. Went back to ED in Nov for severe RLQ pain. CT and bloodwork normal. I had changed from Asacol to Pentasa the week before and the rectal pain had come back-significant burning pain. Went to another doctor and had more bloodwork-borderline IBD tests. Went off Pentasa for a few days in Dec and had severe RLQ pain and right hand pain.
Avatar f tn They should dissolve not fall out.
Avatar n tn I do not know the size or the amount of gallstones as of yet. I am not really in pain, but I did have bouts of nausea, heat flashes, aches, my lymph nodes were even swollen, slight stiff neck with the slight headache. One day I had pain on my right side and under the rib cage. Doctors were baffled for a week but I kept pushing. What I do know is I was not eating and drinking the right things for my body and that is most likely why I feel like this.
Avatar n tn I was not really sure where to post this but as it relates to my circumcision I thought perhaps I should ask it here. I had a circumcision 6 weeks ago, the wound has healed and I did not have any problems with infection but I am left with 2 problems. I still have some swelling just behind the glands, it is sort of a ring of swelling, with one side being more swollen then the other. It is not painful but it is fairly hard and feels weird.
Avatar m tn Try to stay away from dairy, alcohol, grains (have rice instead). If you can figure out what triggered the flare, that would be helpful so you know to avoid it in the future.
Avatar f tn I just had this procedure 6 weeks ago and am experiencing the same symptoms. The packing is not dissolving. Smell is awful and bright green. Surgeon put me on antibiotics and steroids and tried sucking it out but it’s still there. Did you improve? This is awful!
277836 tn?1359666174 4g daily) or similar- this should be continued daily- and is an ongoing drug to keep you in remission. If your symptoms are not so severe he should try the asacol, starting at 2.4mg and increasing to 4g if necessary. He can also try pentasa enema or pred enemas before putting you on the oral steroids. You need to get this under control ASAP, as it will get worse, if left untreated. Pred may be a necessary evil but only for short-term use.
Avatar n tn after being diagnosed with uc he was placed on asacol 1200mg. 3 times a day, prednisone a couple of times last year, entocort most recently, and asacol enemas at night at times. Just recently he started getting muscle cramps, flu like symptoms with bronchitis and had a glucose level of 169, and a cholesterol level in the high 160s as well. He had had an alkaline phosphate level up to almost 600 for years and stays very fatigued and in pain. i am so worried about him. he is overweight.
1828249 tn?1320012338 BUT IF GIVES OFF A HORRIBLE TASTE SO I END UP SWALLOWING IT. IS THAT WRONG, OR DOES IT NOT MATTER AS LONG AS I'M GETTING IT?
Avatar n tn It's possible you might be able to try some stone dissolving medications, but you'd have to check with your doc to see if you're a candidate for those type of meds. Sludge can cause a myriad of problems such as moving into the common bile duct and 'lodging,' or moving through the biliary system and irritating the sphincter of Oddi - the muscular opening to the duodenum and that can cause a lot of pain and long-term issues.
Avatar m tn That's crazy man. I'm glad you we'ere able to find out about, attain, and benefit from this medication. I had UC when I was 8 then 3 flare-ups later I had to have a colectomy due to major blood loss. It's sad that we here in the US have such a terrible time being treated with no respect or dignity by those agencies who are designed to protect us and work for our benefit as advocates.
1446077 tn?1284510191 I was on Prednisolone for a while then Asacol and my symptos were improving, not totally but not as bad. Then in 2008 I was undiagnosed and told it was IBS. I have been on antispasmodics now for over 2 years and my symptoms are no better and I am in pain daily...
Avatar n tn I gave birth to a child in 1988 and soon after began feeling just not up to par. I was having increased fatigue and also an increase in my appetite w/o weight gain but did notice paler more frequent, voluminous stools. My GP referred me to a gastroenterologist who found no conclusive causes for my symptoms after checking blood work and a stool culture. Continued to trudge through my daily routines assuming the added responsibility of motherhood was the cause of my sub-par feeling.
