Asacol liver damage

Common Questions and Answers about Asacol liver damage

asacol

Avatar f tn All other tests and antibodies were negative, SED rate was normal, liver and kidney chemistries normal, C-reactive protein normal, no anemia, CBC normal, etc. Doc wants me to start Asacol but the side effects seem worse than my mild diarrhea. Question is, should I take the anti-inflammatory to try and stop the autoimmune process? The rheumy thinks this could progress to Crohn's, Colitis or autoimmune hepatitis someday. Has anyone out there had issues taking Asacol?
89592 tn?1391274422 saw him on the 5th and called him yesterday to remind him of my liver concern and he said the asacol would be okay. I also have a question for Dr Schiano to get his thoughts. Thank you...I will do some more checking...I did get the pamphlets from my drugstore concerning the asacol and checked online. UGH....I just dont want to do more damage.
Avatar m tn i was prescribed asacol 2x 400mg, 3 times a day for two weeks. after this time i was also diagnosed with CKD at stage 3a with a GFR of 53 and a creatinine clearance of 87.14ml/min. i took asacol again for one month at a reduced rate of 1x 400mg, 3 times a day (3-4 tablets recommended for prevention of relapse). then i stopped taking it for 2 months. i took asacol again at 1x400mg, 2 times a day for 2 months.
Avatar f tn He was switched from Asacol to Pentasa when his liver enzymes were slightly elevated. He was on a steroid for the first 2 years after he was diagnosed. He hasn't been on a steroid since 2006, when he was diagnosed with Diabetes. The Steroids are more for the flares, the Pentasa is used more as a maintenance drug. He is also on Purinethol, which is chemotherapy agent, to help decrease abnormal growths. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Has anyone tried Lialda? Does it perform any better than Asacol? How much more is your co-pay for Lialda than Asacol. I want to ask my doc to make a switch.
Avatar f tn I tend to pay a lot of attention to my liver, since I had a good friend pass away of liver cancer at an early age. I know that chalky stools can be a symptom of bile duct blockage. I'm hoping since this isn't a completely chalky stool, but just streaks, that there is something else going on. I recently (6 weeks ago) had my annual physical, and all liver enzymes were normal range (AST, ALT, bilirubin). Any thoughts on what this might be?

Avatar n tn Hello all, I have Crohns disease, and for about a year have been having some abnormally high liver function tests. The Dr. is changing my medications a bunch (off Asacol, reduced Imuran, etc), and I have abstained from alcohol use (not heavy drinker, but partied hard when I did), but my liver counts have not decreased significantly. I am wondering if my daily Marijuana smoking could be causing the elevated liver functions, rather than the medications or something else.

I'm thinking about consulting a naturopathic doctor.
Avatar f tn I do still take Asacol because I look at controlling the inflammation as being very important. Her symptoms may have subsided, but you don't want the disease to do further damage to her digestive system...so that would be my only fear of not taking a medical treatment. It sounds like you have a good combination of supplements going.
Avatar f tn I am so scared I have caused damage to my liver. After I get off of these will it repair itself or am I in trouble. The only syntom I have right now is welling in my akiles and feet. But i have taken fluid pills for the fluid for yrs before I started taken lorcet.
Avatar f tn s disease, carcinoid syndrome, intersticial lung disease and sirosis of the liver. I had a colonoscopy done in Boston a month ago and learned that all the pain I have been having in my stomach (which they kept testing me for diviticilitis (sp?) for the last year was in fact Crohn's. I am learning as much as I can and am on antibiotics right now for another flare up. My doctor is going to put me on Azechol (not sure of the spelling) and he said it is a good medication.
Avatar n tn after being diagnosed with uc he was placed on asacol 1200mg. 3 times a day, prednisone a couple of times last year, entocort most recently, and asacol enemas at night at times. Just recently he started getting muscle cramps, flu like symptoms with bronchitis and had a glucose level of 169, and a cholesterol level in the high 160s as well. He had had an alkaline phosphate level up to almost 600 for years and stays very fatigued and in pain. i am so worried about him. he is overweight.
Avatar n tn I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?

Avatar m tn The recommended dose of paracetamol for a single adult is two standard 500 mg tablets. Researches have reported that the threshold for liver damage to start from a single paracetamol overdose is 15 gms (30 tablets). However liver damage could start to occur at a single overdose of 24 standard tablets or 150 mg/kg body weight, (whichever is the smaller).
Avatar f tn (Former drug user) what are the chances I already have liver damage??? I go in the morning for a liver scan to check and I am nervous to know!!!
Avatar n tn Is it possible to cause liver damage from a few years of pain med abuse? Damage severe enough to cause stomach pains?
Avatar n tn I have been taking Darvocet for about two years now. I began just taking one a week at night after a bad day and it has progressed to 1-3 daily for about 6 months now. I went to the Dr. for a checkup yesterday and the ALT liver function test was high. The other liver tests were normal just that one was high. The Dr. thinks it is from my acid reflux medication and is changing that but I rarely take it. Could it be the Darvocet?

Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me what it's called when you have liver damage from medications
Avatar f tn The only way to truly ease your mind is by being totally honest with him/her. I have liver damage and kidney damage due to drugs stage 2 liver stage 3 kidney.. if your liver were damaged and you had a flare your belly would be extended/pain upper right you would be lethargic/vomiting.. other symptoms but these being severe.. It is not fun and I would not wish it on anyone.. I contracted hep C from slamming and further continued the damage through pills/alcohol..
Avatar n tn I have never been to hospital, I dont appear to have yellowing of the skin or eyes. What is the likly hood of damage to my liver, and if stoped now could my liver possibly recover from and damege.
Avatar f tn Hard to say but if he stops attacking the liver with alcohol, no further damage should be done and some of those numbers should go down at least a little.
1012981 tn?1322603293 My brother has been in the hospital for 12 days for liver damage. His skin and eyes are yellow, abdomen pain and swelling of the stomach. They drained off 12 liters of fluid from stomach area. He's has dementia, no communicating with him that makes any sense. In this situation what is his chance to make it through this? The doctors and nurses are not saying much, but wait and see.
