Try to stay away from dairy, alcohol, grains (have rice instead). If you can figure out what triggered the flare, that would be helpful so you know to avoid it in the future.

The only abnormality was microscopic colitis on one of the colonoscopy biopsies. All other tests and antibodies were negative, SED rate was normal, liver and kidney chemistries normal, C-reactive protein normal, no anemia, CBC normal, etc.
Doc wants me to start Asacol but the side effects seem worse than my mild diarrhea.
I take asacol 3 times a day and it keeps me in remission. As for food, some people have triggers (milk, nuts, etc...). Best to keep a food journal for a while to see if you react to certain things. I eat pretty much everything, but for some reason I get irritation from roasted meats--almost instantly. Watch out for dairy aswell, as lactose is difficult to digest and can cause problems in a sensitive colon.
I Have Chron, IBS and I am Lactose intolerant. How about figuring what to eat.I had it under control but for the past three monts I have had rectal bleeding that are clots. I also have adhesion, from my bladder stuck to my uterus for three years and many visits to the Gyno. My regular doctor was out and the other doctoer seem to thinl I has endometrotitis. That when I founf out about them being stuck.

It started with strange pain in my intestines and my doctor thought I might me lactose intolerant. But the tests were negative. Then we did parasite and bacterial stool samples and all neg. as well. Then some blood started to show and then mucus and it got worse and worse. I did a flex sigonoscopy and the GI said it is a 95% chance it is ulcerative colitis but the samples he took we would have to biopsy and confirm the other 5%.

So I've had stomach issues ever since I can remember. Bad cramping, diarrhea..etc. 5 years ago i started to get this discomfort in my upper right abdomen that came and went without any obvious reasoning and was certainly effected by my posture. Oh and i always, since I was 19, had this retrosternal pain that was explained as chondritis. This pain can be manipulted by me and reproduced by pushing or changing position.
Has anyone tried Lialda? Does it perform any better than Asacol? How much more is your co-pay for Lialda than Asacol. I want to ask my doc to make a switch.
i was prescribed asacol 2x 400mg, 3 times a day for two weeks. after this time i was also diagnosed with CKD at stage 3a with a GFR of 53 and a creatinine clearance of 87.14ml/min.
i took asacol again for one month at a reduced rate of 1x 400mg, 3 times a day (3-4 tablets recommended for prevention of relapse).
then i stopped taking it for 2 months.
i took asacol again at 1x400mg, 2 times a day for 2 months.

ve had stomach issues ever since I can remember. When I was a child I was told I had lactose intolerance. I would have horrible stomach cramping, and i mean horrible, followed by diarrhea. Sometime this would repeat several times throughout a day or two and then go away for a while. I would have an episode of this anywhere from 1 to 5 times a year. As I got older the cramping would get much more severe.
For the last 5 years I've been having severe abdominal attacks for a better word for it. It came within a half to one hour of eating and usually does. I get real loud bowel sounds on my left side of my abdomen. Then cramping starts and I feel like I'm going to have diarrhea. Before I get the the restroom my lips start going numb, my face feels hot and then depending on the outcome I either pass out on the toilet or I'm doubled over in gut wrenching pain.
I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?
I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?
Is there a program where my son can get help with his Rx for asacol? He does not have insurance.
The idea is to get off the steroids asap but make sure the bleeding is stopped. The other thing is to increase the Asacol right away to get the UC under control and adjust her dosage to manage it. If she is still having trouble then she needs to treat it from both ends, so get her GI to prescribe an enema nightly with her regular Asacol orally but it's very important to get her off the prednezone. It's bad taking it continuously.
He was switched from Asacol to Pentasa when his liver enzymes were slightly elevated. He was on a steroid for the first 2 years after he was diagnosed. He hasn't been on a steroid since 2006, when he was diagnosed with Diabetes. The Steroids are more for the flares, the Pentasa is used more as a maintenance drug. He is also on Purinethol, which is chemotherapy agent, to help decrease abnormal growths. Good luck.
, skin rashes, and i lost weight, mild join pain, dizziness and fatigue and sometimes increased heart beat rate, lactose intolerance and bloating with abdominal pain at times and dry eyes fatigue.
I swear to God there is no more tests i could think of to do and i dont think my doctors have any more ideas! I think my slightly raised cortisol and TSH are due to stress that I am living in !!
Had coloscopy in August-showed some mild inflammation in ilieum and rectal area-was put on Asacol. Asacol helped the rectal pain but RLQ pain continued. Went back to ED in Nov for severe RLQ pain. CT and bloodwork normal. I had changed from Asacol to Pentasa the week before and the rectal pain had come back-significant burning pain. Went to another doctor and had more bloodwork-borderline IBD tests. Went off Pentasa for a few days in Dec and had severe RLQ pain and right hand pain.
after being diagnosed with uc he was placed on asacol 1200mg. 3 times a day, prednisone a couple of times last year, entocort most recently, and asacol enemas at night at times. Just recently he started getting muscle cramps, flu like symptoms with bronchitis and had a glucose level of 169, and a cholesterol level in the high 160s as well. He had had an alkaline phosphate level up to almost 600 for years and stays very fatigued and in pain. i am so worried about him. he is overweight.
My husband is lactose intolerant, and that happens to him. Plus it gives him stomach cramps. Try almond or soy milk.
i have lactose intolerance and i am on a diet where i cant eat anything with milk not even if thrs just a little milk in a cookie recipe but lately i have been feeling like throwing up after i take lactaide if i go out i take it

20+ years ago I was an energetic, vibrant career woman. I gave birth to a child in 1988 and soon after began feeling just not up to par. I was having increased fatigue and also an increase in my appetite w/o weight gain but did notice paler more frequent, voluminous stools. My GP referred me to a gastroenterologist who found no conclusive causes for my symptoms after checking blood work and a stool culture.
I have been hospitalized four times in last two years. Finally I met a doctor in UK who prescribed Asacol Foam Enema. I was unable to get into remission for last so many years with all drugs, however, with this foam enema, I got in full remission in just few weeks. I was surprised to find that drug industry that makes Enemas for UC has been dominated by company that makes Rowasa Enema (Israeli Company). I am shocked to find that Rowasa has complete monopoly over this industry.
