I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?
I enjoy the Lialda because I was taking 3 pills three times a day with Asacol and now I only take 4 pills once a day with Lialda. I haven't been on the Lialda for very long, but so far the results are good. I'm not sure that it is better than Asacol, but I think it is easier and equal in performance. You might ask your doctor if they have any prescription cards for Lialda. My doctor was given cards from Lialda, which you can use with your insurance.
I started Asacol almost two weeks ago, and it worked very well after a couple of days, but after almost two weeks, I got very weak, dizzy spells, fatigue, like the flu. It's been five days, and most of the time I need to lay down. I couldn't go to work today. When does it stop? I stopped the medication four days ago. It was for colitis.
Try to stay away from dairy, alcohol, grains (have rice instead). If you can figure out what triggered the flare, that would be helpful so you know to avoid it in the future.
t budge after a few rounds of antibiotics so my GP sent me to an ENT and after xRays suggested surgery or trying a round of steroids. I opted for the later, less invasive procedure and almost immediately after beginning the Rx started noticing blood with my stools. My GP referred me to a proctologist who, after examination diagnosed me with acute proctitis and prescribed steroid enemas.
At that time I was lucky and had a great surgeon that cleaned out the infection, but at that time I had be suffering with hemmroids giving childbirth and I asked her if she would remove them while I was in surgery and she said never ever would she do any surgery other than what she did because crohns patients do not heal well. Now moving to the present time and dealing with this new rectal pain I went to see a gastro dr.
Is there a program where my son can get help with his Rx for asacol? He does not have insurance.
The idea is to get off the steroids asap but make sure the bleeding is stopped. The other thing is to increase the Asacol right away to get the UC under control and adjust her dosage to manage it. If she is still having trouble then she needs to treat it from both ends, so get her GI to prescribe an enema nightly with her regular Asacol orally but it's very important to get her off the prednezone. It's bad taking it continuously.
been quite bad with a few painfull flareups lots of blood etc/ currently on pentasa and steriods at the moment/ started the pentasa last tuesday after a bad flareup/ just wonderd if any one could tell me there experiance on pentasa , and how long they took to work ?
Had coloscopy in August-showed some mild inflammation in ilieum and rectal area-was put on Asacol. Asacol helped the rectal pain but RLQ pain continued. Went back to ED in Nov for severe RLQ pain. CT and bloodwork normal. I had changed from Asacol to Pentasa the week before and the rectal pain had come back-significant burning pain. Went to another doctor and had more bloodwork-borderline IBD tests. Went off Pentasa for a few days in Dec and had severe RLQ pain and right hand pain.
I had emergency surgery to remove my bowel and then had a J-pouch created which has been so successful and as a result am disease free. It is so, so important that you get your flares under control. At the beginning of getting worse you must be in contact with your doctor. The longer active disease goes on in your body the more damage to the lining of your colon goes on. And don't let yourself get dehydrated. It happens so easily with UC.
Then some blood started to show and then mucus and it got worse and worse. I did a flex sigonoscopy and the GI said it is a 95% chance it is ulcerative colitis but the samples he took we would have to biopsy and confirm the other 5%. He recommended that I start on prednisone ( a steroid) on a low dose asap. I do not believe this is the best option for a pregnant woman. So my questions are; has anyone ever see a pregnant woman get her first flare up while pregnant?
So I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis just about two years ago and I'm 9 weeks 1 day today, and I've noticed my symptoms of uc are flaring up again, even with being on asacol hd. This poses an issue, because I need to eat healthy for baby. Normally I can adjust what I eat and everything balances out after a few days, but with the pregnancy going on not much of anything sounds good, especially uc safe foods.
am now on remission. I take Asacol pills with every meal, and Salofalc (in the rectum) every night.
I hate Asacol and I find it does nothing but cause joint pain especially in my fingers to the point that I can't pick up a glass. I have never felt any benefit from it and I know there are alternative meds out there, but my doctor refuses to give me anything else. My crohns is in the rectum and large intestine.
Does Crohn's disease affect an hepatits c antibody test... and if so how long should you wait to be tested after exposure? Exposure was through a sub q needle stick at work... i was wearing gloves and got tested 7 and a half months after it. Negative results but I have had crohn's disease for at least 2-3 years... I am currently taking ASACOL HD 800mg 2 tabs twice a day.. i also have ulcerated colitis... I have ocasional diarrhea nothing to bad.
