Common Questions and Answers about Asacol and bloating

asacol

Avatar n tn Had coloscopy in August-showed some mild inflammation in ilieum and rectal area-was put on Asacol. Asacol helped the rectal pain but RLQ pain continued. Went back to ED in Nov for severe RLQ pain. CT and bloodwork normal. I had changed from Asacol to Pentasa the week before and the rectal pain had come back-significant burning pain. Went to another doctor and had more bloodwork-borderline IBD tests. Went off Pentasa for a few days in Dec and had severe RLQ pain and right hand pain.
Avatar f tn Hello, Honestly I don't know that much about crohns and of course you would have to go with what your doctors tell you. But, a good book is "Physician, Heal Thyself" by Jordan Rubin. He was diagnosed with Crohns and basically healed himself (pretty much nearly died from it) - and then he became a doctor. He had other books as well. They are at the library. He has one called "The Maker's Diet".
686769 tn?1236272131 t eat at times just to slow down the bathroom trips and lessen pain and bloating. I feel achy in my bones, exhausted and have had a temp all this week. Ok, I have vented...lol...I am really just becoming a big mess and don't know how to deal with it right now. I am also concerned about vitamin defficiency from the big D and all the meds...HELP ! Thanks guys and gals...for being here!
Avatar f tn My doctor put me on Asacol and I had horrible uncontrollable diarrhea. I took it for a few months and decided constipation was less painful and embarressing than diarrhea. You may try drinking Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with honey. It's a natural remedy for reducing inflammation and it works.
Avatar m tn I enjoy the Lialda because I was taking 3 pills three times a day with Asacol and now I only take 4 pills once a day with Lialda. I haven't been on the Lialda for very long, but so far the results are good. I'm not sure that it is better than Asacol, but I think it is easier and equal in performance. You might ask your doctor if they have any prescription cards for Lialda. My doctor was given cards from Lialda, which you can use with your insurance.
Avatar f tn I have severe low abdo pain upon wakening - goes as soon as my feet hit the ground. I recently had 5 weeks of bloating, pain all over my abdomen but particularly in lower right side - especially before passing stools. Stools varied from constipation to small pieces, to explosion of stool - all in one day - as if a blockage. One day I went to the toilet to pass stools 7 times. Pain was like inflammation.
Avatar f tn I started Asacol almost two weeks ago, and it worked very well after a couple of days, but after almost two weeks, I got very weak, dizzy spells, fatigue, like the flu. It's been five days, and most of the time I need to lay down. I couldn't go to work today. When does it stop? I stopped the medication four days ago. It was for colitis.
Avatar m tn Try to stay away from dairy, alcohol, grains (have rice instead). If you can figure out what triggered the flare, that would be helpful so you know to avoid it in the future.
Avatar n tn I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?
420686 tn?1219632592 After having her, I had CD and went to a GI doctor and got diagnosed with Crohns. With medicine (ASACOL) all my symptons went away in about 4 months.. Then I got pregant with my son in 2005 and I had a great pregnancy.. no problems, no symptons of Crohns. The day I gave birth to him, my Crohns came back with a vengance. All my symptons came back and they were worse than before. This time, my medicine (ASACOL) didnt work and had to go with something stronger.
Avatar f tn My brother had UC - I believe there were times when the prednisone and I think it was Asacol would force it into remission - which I believe is the best that can be hoped for.
Avatar m tn I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?
Avatar n tn Is there a program where my son can get help with his Rx for asacol? He does not have insurance.
Avatar m tn The idea is to get off the steroids asap but make sure the bleeding is stopped. The other thing is to increase the Asacol right away to get the UC under control and adjust her dosage to manage it. If she is still having trouble then she needs to treat it from both ends, so get her GI to prescribe an enema nightly with her regular Asacol orally but it's very important to get her off the prednezone. It's bad taking it continuously.
89592 tn?1391274422 saw him on the 5th and called him yesterday to remind him of my liver concern and he said the asacol would be okay. I also have a question for Dr Schiano to get his thoughts. Thank you...I will do some more checking...I did get the pamphlets from my drugstore concerning the asacol and checked online. UGH....I just dont want to do more damage.
Avatar f tn ve stared fish oil and quercetin (natural anti-inflammatories), but should I accept the Asacol in an attempt to quell the autoantibody activity in my system and prevent a worse disease? I feel like a ticking time-bomb!
Avatar f tn been quite bad with a few painfull flareups lots of blood etc/ currently on pentasa and steriods at the moment/ started the pentasa last tuesday after a bad flareup/ just wonderd if any one could tell me there experiance on pentasa , and how long they took to work ?
Avatar m tn This caused severe pain, bloating and diarrhea. Although those symptoms are gone, whenever I eat anything coarse or spicy it causes irritation. This starts a couple of minutes after eating it and continues as the food makes its way through my GI track. The only thing that relieves it is to take a laxative and flush it out of my system. It has been getting progressively worse, and now my diet consists of mostly whey, brewer’s yeast, milk and yogurt.
Avatar f tn For many years I had experienced constipation and extreme bloating. Never thought anything on it because I was in college and my diet was pretty much college food. For years it was pretty much either diarrhea or constipation never the in between and I was so bloated that I looked pregnant at times. The past two years, I started to have gastric issues. I would eat very little and become nauseas and sooner or later throw up.
Avatar n tn Then just recently I have been feeling horrible. Stomach pain, mostly on the right lower region, gas, bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes stabbing pain in my right lower abdomen. I am not pregnant ( that I know of, I have an IUD) And this has been going on for 3 weeks, non stop. I don't know if this is ulcerative colitis, but I wish someone could figure it out.....
Avatar n tn Dosage should be properly followed and if u are experiencing digestive or renal problems, consult your doctor. Alcohol can increase the chances of a fatty liver and if u feel some type of pain and inflammation in your liver region, then consult your doctor.
277836 tn?1359666174 He should also prescribe asacol (2.4g daily) or similar- this should be continued daily- and is an ongoing drug to keep you in remission. If your symptoms are not so severe he should try the asacol, starting at 2.4mg and increasing to 4g if necessary. He can also try pentasa enema or pred enemas before putting you on the oral steroids. You need to get this under control ASAP, as it will get worse, if left untreated. Pred may be a necessary evil but only for short-term use.
Avatar m tn Does Crohn's disease affect an hepatits c antibody test... and if so how long should you wait to be tested after exposure? Avatar n tn It has now been 8 months of frequent bloody/mucousy stools and no relief. I have been on Asacol, Sulfasalazine, and most recently Lialda which I had a bad reaction to. Nothing has improved my symtoms. I recently started seeing a new GI and she retested me and I am positive for C diff. She also tested a ANCA-IBD P-ANCA Titer recently that came back negative.
Avatar n tn 3 times a day, prednisone a couple of times last year, entocort most recently, and asacol enemas at night at times.
