Avatar f tn ) I suffered a severe brain trauma 11 years ago when I was 18 (was in a medically induced coma for 2 weeks to try and reduce brain activity since my brain had bleeding and swelling) due to a car accident. Within two weeks of waking from my coma, I regained enough motor and cognitive skills to be released from the hospital. Eventually I got on with life and was able to function just fine.
Avatar n tn I am a pediatrician. I would like to seek your expert opinion on traumatic brain injury. 1) Is there a consensus on the height of a fall which would be fatal in an infant of few months old? 2)Is it possible for a head injury that caused skull fracture with subdural and subarachnoid hemorrahge to occur without external scalp wound or bruise? Thanks for your help in advance. I would appreciate if you can provide reference as well. Thanks again.

Avatar n tn I've read that traumatic brain injury can increase the risk of pituitary tumors and that this can lead to hormonal problems. However, this is rare.
Avatar f tn t know anything about that - all I know is that before Aricept, I was in a gray mist, and after five months of Aricept, everything seemed to make more sense. Before Aricept, it was as if I had low water pressure - I just couldn't get enough juice in my brain to put thoughts together. On Aricept, suddenly my brain could make connections. The only trippy thing I noticed was an almost hi-def moire behind my eyeballs when I went to sleep.

211940 tn?1267881266 Every month I waited to fill my prescription until I could tell a difference between my brain on Aricept, and my brain without. About five months after taking Aricept, I found that my brain was quicker and more adept. I could participate in conversations and follow topics better. I could remember what I was doing from one moment to the next. I could even count change and catch errors at the grocery store! So I stopped taking it.
Avatar m tn A good friend of mine was in a bad car accident and was taken to the hospital about a year and a half ago. He had many broken bones, a collapsed lung, and a traumatic brain injury. Previous to the accident he was a daily pot smoker. He's doing really good now and has had no problems with breathing, although he does have some trouble with his short term memory from time to time. This may be due to the past weed smoking, but he is leaning toward smoking weed again.
338416 tn?1420045702 I asked for a script for Aricept, got it, and was on that for three months. It felt very much like the Aricept gave my brain enough 'power' to jump over the holes. After a while, it was more like the brain knew how to navigate around the holes.
Avatar n tn The symptoms you have described may be due to some form of injury to your lower back nerves and I believe the previous brain injury is not the sole cause of the problem. There could also be some form of injury to the nerves originating from the lower back spine that controls urination and erection. Problems with the glands inside the pelvis such as the prostate can also give rise to these symptoms.
Avatar n tn There are various mechanisms of recovery post brain injury. Initially the reduction of edema of brain tissue causes some improvement. You must consult the treating intensivist for the best judgment about your son in law’s condition. Take care.
Avatar n tn Then he had an altered medical status problem due to a subdural hematoma and a traumatic brain injury was diagnosed and doctors said it was because he drove into the pothole. He is in his 70s and used narcotics until about two years before driving into the pothole. Can doctors really know the cause?
Avatar f tn Hi, How is your daughter? Disabilities resulting from a traumatic brain injury depend upon the severity of the injury, the location of the injury, and the age and general health of the individual.
Avatar n tn My son was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at 2.5 years old. He has all the typical symptoms such as delayed speech, repetitive behaviours such as hand flapping. He has a tendency to line up his toys, he has inconsistent eye contact and doesn't respond to his name.
704043 tn?1298056844 Hey, I took Aricept for five months to get over some cog fog. It was amazing, and kinda reassuring. I started with some samples, and noticed a difference immediately - I could follow directions, count change, remember conversations... Every time I ran out, I would wait a day or so and see if I noticed a difference. After five months, I reached a point where I felt normal without the Aricept - yay! I highly recommend it.
Avatar n tn Usually, such symptoms may result due to post traumatic brain injury and may last for weeks or months after the injury that caused from the injury of a fall, vehicle accident, or sports injury. Avatar n tn I looked at the US brain injury association, and according to their site, they cover traumatic brain injury and the sources break down as follows: "What causes TBI? The leading causes of TBI are: * Falls (28%); * Motor vehicle-traffic crashes (20%); * Struck by/against (19%); and * Assaults (11%)." So I would think they cover injuries. There are other associations for those with tumors - like us.
Avatar m tn It is possible to see a change in personality and develop anger post traumatic brain injury. It is often due to post traumatic stress. It would help greatly to join anger support groups and counseling sessions. You can learn meditation and anger control techniques during these counseling sessions. Yoga also helps in a great way. Deep breathing exercises too help control anger. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care!
Avatar f tn I would like to know if an injury that happeed during brain surgery in which a general surgeon assisting my neurosurgeon retracted too forcefully caused an injury which left me with a left sided hemiparesis, 1.5 years of LT/ST memory loss and a seizure disorder, is actually a traumatic brain injury. Also, could this be the cause of my insatiable hunger, inability to lose weight, and pre-diabetes given its proximity to the hypothalamus? I'm told that I had a hemorrhagic stroke or two.
Avatar f tn Small regions of encephalomalacia inferior both frontal lobes similar to prior exam due to known prior traumatic injury. Small T2/FLAIR hyperintensities inferior both frontal lobes slightly reduced due to known injury. 2. Tiny T2 FLAIR/FLAIR hyperintensity left parietal white matter unchanged and nonspecific. A few new small T2/FLAIR hyperintensities in white matter of the cerebral hemispheres are non-specific.
