Aricept and side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Aricept and side effects

aricept

Avatar m tn Is the person having memory problems? If not, why are they taking it? There are lots of drugs that have "off label" uses for lots of drugs so perhaps it was prescribed for something else. The doctor can probably let you know what that is and why it's being used. I don't think it will hurt, but there are side effects in every med and it would be a good idea to check drug interactions, etc. Try Drugs.com. If you cannot speak to the patient's doc, can you call your own?
Avatar n tn my mum was diagnosed with alzaheimer in October 2008, she was prescriped dogmatile fort 200, aricept, trittico and lustral, I wonder if this combination goes well as she is more depessed since she took the medication.
Avatar f tn t know anything about that - all I know is that before Aricept, I was in a gray mist, and after five months of Aricept, everything seemed to make more sense. Before Aricept, it was as if I had low water pressure - I just couldn't get enough juice in my brain to put thoughts together. On Aricept, suddenly my brain could make connections. The only trippy thing I noticed was an almost hi-def moire behind my eyeballs when I went to sleep.
Avatar f tn s having side effects its best you go over them with her Dr. thanks for asking on here and please come back.....
Avatar n tn It has been observed that Aricept improves cognition and function, which includes effects on memory and performing everyday tasks, hence it would have been prescribed. The effect of memory is exerted through one such chemical called acetylcholine. This chemical helps carry messages from nerve cell to nerve cell in the brain. Memory is lost by disrupting these messages between cells. It is thought that Aricept may help reduce the breakdown of this chemical. Hope this helps. Bye.
900662 tn?1469390305 After discussion with MS Neuro and my wife , we agreed that I should start Aricept , it is used mostly for Alzheimer, so its off label and he says it has shown great results. I do have a damaged working memory and slower processing speed, cognitive impairment effects every day in some small way. I won't reveal to any other family or friends that I ve stated this med, I just think I would feel self-conscious about people looking for my errors and mistakes.
147426 tn?1317265632 Hah! Like Quix has time to keep up with our lives! I'm sure she has enough to do... Missed this on Monday, cause I was feeling poorly... Monday 9:15 - Went to PCP for shortness of breath, seizures, and to talk about Aricept. She gave me a sample inhaler for the shortness, but it's not helping, and recommended I talk to my neuro about seizures and aricept. Called the neuro office that day, and got in! That never happens. Went to neuro at 4:00.

338416 tn?1420045702 Well, as you all know, I've been taking 5mg of donepezil a day for my cognitive impairment. I'm on #4 today. Interestingly, I feel like I might have had a mini-flare at the beginning of the week (or maybe it was the allergies) - but despite that, my brain feels more 'on.' I'm remembering stuff better, and I'm able to stay on task better. I drove last night, and I felt safer - less distracted, more able to concentrate on driving.
Avatar m tn Tardive dyskinesia is generally treated with Mirapex, Bachlophen, Requip, Aricept and Botox injections for focal dystonia. Zofran has been shown to work experimentally as well as the natural remedy rhodiola (when taken under the supervision of a neurologist). Clonidine is patch form is markedly helpful for me as well as a person with advanced tardive dyskinesia in addition to some of the other treatments mentioned. But have a neurologist who is a movement disorders specialist confirm it first.
338416 tn?1420045702 I asked for a script for Aricept, got it, and was on that for three months. It felt very much like the Aricept gave my brain enough 'power' to jump over the holes. After a while, it was more like the brain knew how to navigate around the holes.
Avatar f tn My husband has been taking 10mg of Aricept for 2 years now and I have not noticed any significant difference in his memory. Actually, my observation is his memory is becoming worse. I'm struggling with whether I should discontinue the medication since I don't see improvement and because it is quite costly. I also know Aricept is designed to slow down the dementia so if I discontinue it I'm wondering if he will become worse much faster.
704043 tn?1298056844 Hey, I took Aricept for five months to get over some cog fog. It was amazing, and kinda reassuring. I started with some samples, and noticed a difference immediately - I could follow directions, count change, remember conversations... Every time I ran out, I would wait a day or so and see if I noticed a difference. After five months, I reached a point where I felt normal without the Aricept - yay! I highly recommend it.
Avatar f tn My husband has dementia. He takes the Bupropion in the morning along with his Aricept and Exforge (for blood pressure). He gets drowsy right after taking his pills and I think it may be the Bupropion HSL SR causing this. His neurologist told him the anti-depressant would probably make him "a little more fuzzy in his thinking". My husband is usually at his best in the morning as far as clear thinking goes.
649926 tn?1297657780 ve had bad side effects with the Ritalin--it worked great for me, with no side effects (except cheerfulness and faster typing!), although after a couple years of intermittent usage, it seemed to not work so well and sometimes even seemed to have the opposite effect. I then stopped taking it and eventually started Strattera, which has been great.
333021 tn?1207759633 I need to get going on that, and get going on getting my prescription for Aricept. Heather tells me that her dad was on Aricept for a while, and had some severe side effects (nausea, diarrhea) so had to stop.
338416 tn?1420045702 Boy, Jen, this is difficult. Can you possibly contact whoever makes Aricept, and also the Shared Solutions people, and see if they can work something out for you? They may well have new programs that reflect our economic hard times. Even though you have prescription insurance, if the co-pay is too high, it's too high, period.
1030383 tn?1338460785 ve got, which my face and throat stiffened up real bad, and they gave me a shot of Valium and it reversed the effects, and of course I never took the antipsychotic category of medication again. I didn't even realize at the time that they were giving that type of stuff to me, becuz I sure as heck wasn't psychotic! I was just a tad nervous, is all.
359574 tn?1328360424 The psychiatrist recommended Aricept, so I got a sample and tried it for a month. I have to say, it definitely made a difference. When I ran out, I waited for the cog fog to come back so I could tell whether it was the Aricept - and it did. So I got a prescription, and took it for five months. Each time I ran out, I waited until the fog returned, then got my script refilled. When the fog stayed away, I stopped taking it.
Avatar f tn My daughter has concentration problems and some memory loss on her medications but finds those side effects tolerable in comparison to cycling. She takes Lithium 1200 mg (split 600am/900pm), Lamictal 100pm and Adderall XR 10mg AM. She also takes a multivitamin, calcium, biotin, birth control, and zantac. She was on Geodon 80 mg (gained 30lbs and no improvement) and zoloft 50mg... with all the other stuff she was on. That was from August until mid December.
1414174 tn?1304680526 I started noticeing side effects at about 8pm, and they continued till this morning. I experienced a low grade headache, aches in my upper legs and lower back, some difficulty sleeping, and an awkward kind of dizziness (which I notice now seems to immediately follow my Riba dose). I am a Genotype 1b, with what I was told a 6log Viral load?? I have clean and sober for over 6 years, and am pretty sure I contracted the virus about 7-8 years ago..
7829857 tn?1401192659 I am grateful to have been cleared at the 4 week mark. I was just feeling that the side effects were getting worse and worse and i was battling discouragement. I am very grateful for your help and admire the way you are handling this!
