Avatar m tn Actually getting more sleep without the CPAP, by just using chin strap and nasal cannula for oxygen.
Avatar m tn for example, a nasal obstruction that might be surgically relieved. Then perhaps, the use of a nasal cannula might be feasible. If you are normally able to breathe through your nose but cannot while asleep, you might want to give consideration to the type of soft-gel mask commonly used with Nasal C-PAP. Oxygen can be fed into that type of system, at high concentration.
Avatar f tn You should consider taking care of your nasal congestion first, which will allow you to breathe better and also be able to benefit from CPAP for your sleep apnea. You're right—using a nasal cannula doesn't make sense if your nose is stuffy. See an ENT for your nasal congestion.
Avatar f tn Did you try the nasal pillow or nasal cannula? The nasal pillow goes over your entire nose and the cannula goes right up into your nostrils.
Avatar m tn Difficult to get supplemental oxygen to lungs with nasal cannula when blockage occured. Cpap set at level 9 unable to force air through the barrier. Pulse nasal/sinus irrigation only effective means of removing some of the blockage.
Avatar n tn *on a CPAP machine. Not *in one. Sorry for the typo. You don't go *in a CPAP machine.
Avatar m tn my friend from Belarus has just been told she must wear a Cannula to stop having heart attacks. she is very sad about this because she is at her prime and is embarrassed to be seen with it. Is there any less obvious alternatives that anyone knows about? Something that she could hide in public?
Avatar m tn There are numerous types of masks in order to avoid the problems you experienced. For example you could you nasal cannula-like mask with which you should not have the above problems. Consider maintain a normal weight, with BMI in normal values. The international recommendation for oxygen supply is only when a patient experiences a drop of oxygen during daytime, but no reason to worry for sideeffects if you use it anyway during sleeping time. Hope that helped!
Avatar m tn I use a nasal aire II, which is kind of like a oxygen cannula, only fits snug into your nostrils. It is much more comfortable than a mask, which I could not tolerate. There are other similar devices that you may be able to tolerate better. Also, make sure you have a humidifier on your cpap machine, as that can make a huge difference in not drying out your throat and nose. I know a lot of people have a hard time adjusting to the cpap, but it is worth it to stick with it.

Avatar m tn My son was in NICU when born and had nasal cannula placed on him. He had pictures taken for the first time after nasal cannula. His spider angioma is along the outer crease of the nose. We think he was born with it because he also had angel kisses and stork bites, but would it be possible for trauma from nasal cannula to cause one to appear within an hour or two? Just curious. Thanks.
620048 tn?1358018235 Meg , the term nasal pillow Is somewhat deceptive. It is kind of like a cannula but with puffy things that go in your nostrils. Check out some pictures at http://www.cpap.com/cpap-masks/nasal-pillow-cpap-mask.
Avatar f tn One of the "old-time" solutions to eliminate the uncomfortabl;e nasal cannula was to make an "oxygen tent". These have fallen out of favor, partly because of the difficulty in maintaining a level of oxygen that is only slightly above normal. "One hundred percent oxygen" is contraindicated because it can cause respiratory arrest. I am sure you actually meant she was connected to a nasal cannula that provides supplemental oxygen (but not 100 percent).
1173253 tn?1263496613 I am not sleeping as I keep taking off the CPAP to blow my nose or to cough. Could I be allergic to the CPAP, or the dirt or germs in the tubing, or to the air that is sucked in thru the CPAP? No matter how good I feel in the day.....I get worse at night? Help Please.
Avatar f tn I've been wearing the nasal cannula for 24/7 for 9 years. I make sure the flow of air goes back. It will go down to my lungs. Letting the oxygen hit any part of the inside of your nose just dries the heck out of it and creates other never ending problems.
Avatar n tn ve tried to use CPAP for more than a year with no success, using full mask, nasal mask or nasal pillows with chin strap. They either keep me from falling asleep, or I can't get them easily reseated without leaks if I have to get out of bed during the night. I also have trouble keeping the headgear/chin strap in place even when it's correctly adjusted; it slips off my head. I have to over-tighten it; not only uncomfortable, but it irritates my skin. Have you tried CPAP Pro?
1193998 tn?1265117597 Hi try not to worry about CPAP i was the same as you claustrophobic i would get the nasal mask that way to start with get to use CPAP in the daytime to get used to it on face so night time is easy for you. All so what helped me was to have the RAMP low that makes it easy to breath also with the nasal mask you can sleep on your side.......You can ask me anytime just leave me a note i shall get back to you asap...Take Care....
Avatar f tn The tech only brought the nose mask and a nasal pad setup with no humidifier. I tried the nasal pad and it feels like a knife going in my nose.I tried nose gel and spray. Wow, I am not a baby but this hurt. I am calling tomorrow (Monday) to let them know that, first off, I too am a mouth breather, and also need a humidifier. Thank God this first machine and mask is a test of sorts for month. They were worried about this equipment costing so much without a prescription plan.
Avatar f tn We are glad you are here at MedHelp and you likely have some valuable things to share. We are sorry that this is such a difficult quest to find chemical free cannulas! Doesn't seem like it should be so in this day and age. Have you looked into Teflon tubing?
Avatar n tn I have used scores of Prescription antihistamines, decongestants, eye drops, nasal sprays, saline flushes, have reduced CPAP pressures, and used different style mask over the past seven years! These help moderate symptoms, or recover from occurrences, but do not prevent them. > I wish more research would be done in this area.
