Appendicitis and thyroid peroxidase

Common Questions and Answers about Appendicitis and thyroid peroxidase

appendicitis

Avatar m tn About two weeks after that, I had some regular blood work done by my doctor in an attempt to get information on a miscarriage that I suffered at the end of last year. The blood work revealed that I have an elevated level of thyroid peroxidase antibodies. Could the thyroid antibodies have given me a false negative on my HIV test? All other blood work was normal, and my HIV exposure was over a year ago. Thank you for your help!
Avatar n tn s thyroiditis - I just got back my lab results and my thyroid peroxidase is 959! That seem incredibly high - TSH is 5.27. I see a general practitioner - do I need a specialist? Has anyone else had a number that high on their results?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with autoimmune thyroid disease and placed on 25mcg of Levothyroxine - my labs came back with the TSH @ 5.27 and the thryorid peroxidase at 959. My physician ( a General Practitioner) says I might need a slight increase in medicine, I will see her on Tuesday. I am thinking the number is quite high and perhaps would be better of seeing a specialist. The 959 number scares me, so my question is, should it, is it normal to have such a high number. I feel very concerned.
Avatar f tn I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis which is likely what you have too since it is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in western countries not to mention your family history of autoimmune disease. If you haven't already, test thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb). I have 5 autoimmune diseases. I thankfully do not have celiac disease. I like pizza lol. Hypothyroid Mom has an article 300+ Hypothyroidism Symptoms…Yes REALLY.
Avatar f tn those antibodies attack your thyroid glands and over an extended period of time destroy the thyroid glands. During this gradual destruction and the loss of natural thyroid production, you have to offset the loss with thyroid medication. Since you only mentioned TSH, I also assume that you may have one of those doctors that have the "Immaculate TSH Belief" and use TSH as their primary test to diagnose and medicate a thyroid patient. This is guaranteed to keep you feeling sick.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have an 8 yr old daughter that was referred to a ped. endo due to her height being so behind. After months of testing, bone age, growth stimulating in the hospital everything has come back fine but the endo is going to review the bone age because all she has is the radiologist report. This last visit she ran a more extensive panel of thyroid function. Here are the numbers T4 total 8.1, TSH 2.92, Thyroid peroxidase as 64, Thyroglobulin AB <20, T4 free direct dialysis 1.9.
Avatar n tn hi, i am fatima and wish to know the meaning of my thyroid test result. my T3,T4 and TSH were all in normal ranges but my antithyroid peroxidase results showed 440 while the normale range mentioned was 0-12. i had been diagnosed with hypothyroidim 2 years ago and i am already taking 150mcg of eltroxin daily.i do have goiter but docs say it is not harmful or anything. so what does the elevated test results mean?
Avatar n tn I have a sibling with Hashimoto disease. After much persuassion on my part, my doctor ordered thyroid peroxidase antibodies and it was negative. Can taking the Levothyroxin cause it to be negative? I have all the symptoms and illnesses that go along with Hashimotos. My doctor is not any help and I am switching to another soon.
Avatar n tn PTO anitbodies refers to your body producing antibodies to destroy your own thyroid...your body considers it a foreign body and is trying to elliminate it. Hashimoto's is probably the diagnosis, I am not sure how high your antibodies have to get to have a Hashi's diagnosis, but you will probably eventually lose thyroid function.
10704596 tn?1412127746 Thyroglobulin AB is 634 and thyroid peroxidase AB is 406. Can someone please help ? I don't know what to think and I am so confused. I haven't checked my T3 or T4 yet. What could this mean ?
Avatar f tn I just received my lab results , the thyroglobulin antibodies was 2235 , and the thyroid peroxidase was 159 . The thyroid panel , T-3 uptake 31 , T-4 8.2 and Free T4 Index was 2.7 , which are in range. So what does having high thyroglobulin, and thyroid peroxidase mean . My doctor refer me to an endocrinologist, but it will be another week before I see them. Can someone please explain what the results mean.
Avatar f tn Antibodies that attack the thyroid gland cause inflammation and impaired function of the thyroid and can lead to diseases such as Hashimoto's disease or Graves' disease. Some people without thyroid disease may have TPO (thyroid peroxidase) antibodies. However, the presence of thyroid peroxidase antibodies may increase the risk of future thyroid disorders.
Avatar f tn It most likely means you have an autoimmune thyroid disease, such as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. It's possible that your doctor may want to put you on thyroid med. What symptoms do you have?
Avatar f tn I just received a phone call from the docs saying they reviewed my bloods and found peroxidase antibodies (280). My tsh when it was last tested 2 months ago was 2.51 with a t3 of 14.4. What does this mean and could it cause my symptoms? I'm getting so frustrated and it is so difficult getting help especially with two little ones to look after, I'm so desperate to find an answer.
215021 tn?1224882457 the incorporation of iodine to thyroglobulin for the production of thyroid hormone is inseparable from oxidation and is catalyzed by TPO.
Avatar f tn I am having difficulties finding treatment for my recent diagnosis of Hashimoto's. I have struggled for years with thyroid symptoms but because my TSH levels were and still are normal, it was never found. However my new doctor ran tests and here are my recent lab results: 1/21/10 Thyroglobulin Antibodies 63 Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 35 Calcium 9 C reactive protein 1.23 T4 free 1.2 TSH 3rd gen 1.
Avatar f tn He is taking Prednisone. Finally an allergist did blood work and found his Thyroid Peroxidase was 80 and thyroglobulin antibodies were 411. Dr told him to follow up with more blood work in 1 week. He's in agony, he doesn't want to wait another week. I have some questions: 1) what do these results mean? 2) why is the Dr waiting? 3) what can be done to get these number down? 4) could these results be what is causing his symptoms? 5) Is it serious?
Avatar f tn It means you have antibodies against your own thyroid, you have probably Hashimoto thyroiditis. Now you need to check your TSH, free T3 and free T4 and make an ultrasound of your thyroid. I have high Thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO) and I'm not sick (.....yet). Read this: http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar m tn 0cm is present in the upper pole of the left thyroid lobe and a partially calcified .4cm cyst is present in the lower pole of the left thyroid lobe. No dominant solid nodule is identified on either side. Normal sized lymph nodes are present inferior to both thyroid lobes. Impression: Diffusely heterogeneous thyroid parenchymal which may be related to thyroiditis or some other diffuse parenchymal process. I will make an appt.
Avatar f tn The antibodies do attack the thyroid glands and continue over a period of time until the thyroid glands are destroyed. During this period of destruction, your normal thyroid hormone production is gradually going down, requiring gradual increases in thyroid meds to offset the loss of normal thyroid production. Just because your test results are within the so-called "normal" ranges does not mean that they are adequate for YOU. The ranges are far too broad for that to be the case.
Avatar n tn The TPO gene provides instructions for making an enzyme called thyroid peroxidase. This enzyme plays a central role in the function of the thyroid gland, a butterfly-shaped tissue in the lower neck. Thyroid peroxidase assists the chemical reaction that adds iodine to a protein called thyroglobulin, a critical step in generating thyroid hormones. Thyroid hormones play an important role in regulating growth, brain development, and the rate of chemical reactions in the body (metabolism).
Avatar n tn I have gained a significant amount of weight over the last few years after having surgery for a ruptured appendix. Prior to the appendicitis, i had lost 85 pounds and maintained the weight loss. Could the low cortisol and high thyroglobulin AB be related to the weight gain? The dr. is retesting the cortisol for a morning reading. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I can tell you of my experience. Being positive for thyroid peroxidase meant that I had autoimmune thyroid disease. That means the thyroid tissue changes in some way so that your body no longer recognizes the tissue as its own, and your immune system begins to attack your thryoid-- usually making it dysfunctional at some point. My doctor told me that he would prescribe thyroid hormone to reduce inflammation of the thyroid and restore thyroid balance.
Avatar m tn When the technician was inputting the tests into the computer, I didn't notice a Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody option. I only saw a Thyroid Peroxidase option. Are they the same thing?
