I may be the first casualty of detox coming down from such a high dose. The trouble is...my doctor is willing to just write more prescriptions with no hope of ever quiting or dealing with the pain I have in a different way. Surgery is not an option anymore, and I am hoping that some miracle herb will come along, but I doubt that. I worry that even if I do detox, the pain will be debilitating, so that I will be unable to work.
I am on a very high dose of OC. Has anyone ever had any luck trying eo wean down from 8 to 16 OC 80's a day? I know it is a huge dose and I would like to wean down some to try to lower my tolerance. I know that I will always be on pain meds but I can not keep increasing the dose, so I thought if I tried to take as vacation , so to speak, maybe I could lower my tolerance. Has anyone else ever taken this high of a dose daily?
I was diagnosed with reactive arthritis at age of 17. Today I am 32, and some months ago I adopted a cat from the streets. When he started sleeping in my room, I had to triple my anti-inflammatory dose for some reason. As if that wasn't strange enough, after I took an antihistamine to control my allergy to the cat, when I woke up the next day my pain was DRASTICALLY increased. It was almost like I didn't take any anti-inflammatory at all.
A protective ointment that contains zinc oxide (Desitin, Balmex) also may help. If your symptoms are worse at night, please take an antihistamine like Benadryl to reduce itching until topical treatments take effect.

not life or death type allergies, but sneezing, itchy nose and eyes, headaches. I take a one a day antihistamine to deal with it. .. but it says on the box not to take if pregnant. Im only 7 weeks, and have stopped taking them... but my allergies are horrible at the moment. All the sneezing is not helping with my morning sickness. Im taking a 5 day course of high dose steroids for my relapse. I get the dose in the morning and notice my pulse rate slowly rises during the day . At rest it is 95 and I can hear my heart pounding while I am trying to sleep which makes me more anxious. My chest feels sore too. I keep generally very fit and healthy apart from RRMS and my heart rate is only this high normally when I am recovering from exercise. My BP is good thankfully.

Finally, when thinking of the dosing opiates in general, I picture a line with pain on one end, and the side effects of too high of a dose on the other end-- namely nausea and itching (we docs call it 'pruritis'). You mention that you were not a 'heavy' drug user; if that is the case, and if the itching is from too much opiate stimulation, you would become tolerant to the sensations in a few days.
No, DO NOT give together! Temeril-P IS an antihistamine w/ a small dose of steroids included.....You don't want to give another Antihistamine (Benedryl) on top of that......
When you see the doctor, get him or her to tell you how large a dose of antihistamine you should take for a reaction like this. If you can get the antihistamine into your system quickly enough, then that ought to greatly reduce the chances of your ever needing to use the epi pen. I would take the antihistamine as soon as any hint of a systemic reaction started.
Benadryl is safe to use in dogs, and the dose is approx. 1mg/lb every 8-12 hours; I have used 25mg twice daily in pets slightly under 20# with no ill effects. In approx 10% of dogs, any antihistamine can unexpectedly cause excessive sleepiness, or paradoxical excitment, and if these symptoms occur, then the antihistamine is discontinued. Perhaps this happened to one of the prior rescue dogs when given benadryl.
Hydoxyzine worked wonders for me (once I got a high enough dose). I take 25 - 50 mg. every 6 hours. I had a bad rash all over my body except my face and buttocks and it stopped the itching and is clearing the rash.
I wish they would have started it in Dec,. but it seems with these side effects we are all re-inventing the wheel. The docs seem clueless.
