Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine eye symptoms

antihistamine

Avatar n tn Yesterday, I asked: Can antihihistamine Eye Drops, enter your system through your eyes? While the question seems somewhat idiotic, I am highly allergic to antihistamines. They knock me out for extended periods of time, by making me lethargic, and extremely drowsy and sluggish. I used an antihistamine eye drop yesterday, and, shortly, had all the above symptoms. My question is simply, can one's system absorb antihistamines through the use of antihistamine eye drops?

Avatar f tn There are a lot of allergens around due to the mild winter in many parts of the US, and I have been having symptoms like yours (one eye much worse than the other). The doc gave me some antihistamine eye drops that have totally cured this problem.
20315163 tn?1494892428 Hello everyone, Over the past (nearly) 2 years, Ive been dealing with my eye irritation and some pain. Symptoms began with simply crusting of eyes and a little pressure around the eye. I thought it was allergies so I started taking antihistamine. I tried every H1/H2 antihistamine but this didnt help. I took guanfacine for my runny nose but that barely did anything. I went to see a primary doctor and he prescribed a nasal spray that would stop the nose from running and an antibiotic.
Avatar f tn Here is an additional thought that might be of help to you, or perhaps to someone else reading this thread, in regard to your pollen-related allergy symptoms: A recent study found that people who got the most B vitamin folate had a 31% lower risk of allergy symptoms like watery eyes, runny nose and eczema, and a 40% lower risk of wheezing.
Avatar n tn I had an itchy left eye (not much in the right eye) for several days. Oral antihistamine did not work, neither did some dated eye moistener (not sure if fresh would work better) and one other OTC eye drop. Got no relief. Next I tried Similasan Allergy Eye Relief. My eye improved immediately and after three or four days of using these drop 3 or 4 times a day and the itch is gone. I have used the drops only once a day, some days not at all. Not sure it was allergic or something else.
Avatar n tn How long can i use antihistamine for my daughter aged 7 months to relieve her of the eczema itching.

Avatar f tn 2 weeks ago Bruce started exhibiting symptoms of pink eye - discharge, crusties on the eye, the eye being pink.... It was $45 just to go see the vet so I found some alternate ideas on the internet (what in particular we did was washing the eye with a warm cloth 1 time a day and then with contact solution 1 time a day).

Avatar n tn say the tear-duct or closest outer part of the eye, on the hands between the last knuckle on the fingers and the thickest part of the hand. It is also on the shaft of penis going towards the scrotum. For me it is only on one side. The rash is very white like dried skin but it is not I fear. Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum, your symptoms are suggestive of allergic conjunctivitis which can form a granulomatous lesion over conjunctiva. Usually seen due to airborne allergens contacting the eye. If you have a history of hay fever, allergic rhinitis or bronchial asthma then the probability of allergic conjunctivitis is strong. But usually symptoms are seen in both the eyes.
Avatar n tn Avoid touching the unaffected eye and refrain from sharing pillows, wash cloths, eye drops, or eye makeup with others. You can also get culture and sensitivity studies to identify infectious organisms. If it is bacterial conjunctivitis, then antibiotics may be needed. If the symptoms persist then pls consult an eye specialist. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted if you have any additional queries.
Avatar n tn Allergic reactions may also manifest with eye, skin and nasal symptoms. Drinking plenty of fluids and taking decongestants and antihistamine medications may help provide relief. If this is due to a viral infection, this usually resolve after a few days of rest and symptomatic relief. However, if it persists, you may need to have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I acccidentally slept in my extended-wear contacts and, during the night, had some allergy issues. Not realizing my contacts were in my eyes, I used antihistamine eye drops. This morning, one of my contact lenses is not on my iris--it feels like it's stuck way back under my eyelid, but I cannot dislodge it or see any evidence that it is still in my eye. Is it possible that the antihistamine drops dissolved or ate the contact?
Avatar f tn ve been having false eyelashes for about a year , but the last time I had them I reacted to them almost immediately- swollen bottom eyelids and red , I saw gp who said i needed them off and gave me an antihistamine, any way since then I have been suffering intermittent swollen bottom eyelids ( mainly my right eye) , it will be ok for maybe a week and then just randomly swell again , if I take an antihistamine quickly the swelling goes down again for maybe a week ?? Any ideas ?
Avatar m tn Perhaps you are allergic to the preservatives in most of the antihistamine eyedrops such as Zaditor. Similisan Eye Allergy has a different type of preservative than Zaditor so maybe that's why it works for you. Without knowing whether it's the preservative that's the problem, this may not help but a while back there was a discussion thread about whether preservative-free allergy eye drops were available.
Avatar m tn The only thing that has caused me to worry is eye floaters! I had a lot of eye floaters last week! I too some antihistamine and it decreased them. Then I stopped it and they increased. I did not return to the antihistamine. I still see eye floaters, however it is much better than before! I see only a few like 1-3 sometimes. It is present in both eyes. It is clearing up and I do believe they will go away completely, but it was just alarming having because it was like putting on dirty goggles.
Avatar f tn I am wondering about how long it will take for my eyes to recover because it has been a few months with these dry eye symptoms
Avatar n tn I have Graves & Graves Eye Disease & your symptoms sound exactly like mine when my disease started. You need to see an ophthalmologist as soon as possible. After the exam he will order a cat scan of your eyes to see if there is any muscle enlargement behind your eye. I had more prominent orbital edema than buldging at first but that along with eye fatigue, tearing & eye dryness are some of the first symptoms. The endrocrinologist should know that.

Avatar n tn It soon spread to my upper cheeks along-side my nose and in my eye-brows. I also received several of those white bumps on the end of my tongue, which eventually healed and haven't returned yet (knock on wood). i soon discovered that it was more severe than i was first aware when it started peeling off in big chunks, leaving the skin tender and red. Then i started feeling it on the back of my head on my scalp under my hair.

Avatar n tn You could take some oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine. You need to maintain a good personal hygiene . Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin. For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone or desonide), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide).
