Avatar f tn Hello, does anybody knows which medication works better for itching hydroxyzine or levocetirizine?
1722607 tn?1335747858 I wanted to know the names of different medications that might be prescribed during treatment. Names of rescue drugs, anti nausea drugs, or any others that may be given during treatment. I want to look them up thru my insurance to see how much they will cost me if needed. Just trying to budget how much treatment could end up costing.
Avatar n tn The only way is to prevent further damage by avoiding drugs that precipitate FDE.Spontaneous recovery is seen in many, just take bcousules i cap daily for a month.
631573 tn?1222578525 In January, I was given hydroxyzine for hives. Normal dosing was 25mg 4 times a day. Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine, anxiolytic, sedative, and antiemetic. I can't find any supporting information anywhere saying that it is addicting. I experienced no w/ds of any kind when I finished my prescription. How long has your bf been taking it? Did he just start? Is he taking any other meds with it? (Opiates and alcohol will drastically increase the effect of the drug.
960785 tn?1248645096 Hydroxyzine ie atarax is a antihistamine and mild sedative too and may be preffered in your case as a night dose, with calamine application externally.
Avatar f tn Get yourself a prescription for Hydroxyzine. Hydroxyzine is used to treat itching caused by allergies. It is an antihistamine and works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction. The key is when you go cold turkey let the itch get to the point that you can't actually stand it anymore like a few hours after the itching starts, its hard but stretch it out. Take the Hydroxyzine and jump in a hot shower your itch will stop.
Avatar m tn Although they resolve spontaneously but an oral antihistamine (e.g., hydroxyzine) and a topical corticosteroid may be needed. I would suggest you to consult a dermatologist and get it evaluated. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar m tn , Riba, and Incivek, when a rash appears the rash itself is treated with prescription steroid creams and ointments and a strong prescription antihistamine such as Hydroxyzine. Unless the rash is severe, the medication dosages are not lowered. Actually, you cannot lower the Incivek dose. If the rash is severe, then the Incivek is discontinued (but only if the rash is severe).
427265 tn?1444076436 I have an Rx for hydroxyzine to use during tx, specifically for itching, but also to help with nausea, pain and anxiety to a lesser degree. Anyone have any experience with this med - pro or con?
Avatar f tn It might be a good idea to ask your doctor for a prescription for Hydroxyzine. It is an antihistamine but it is much stronger than Zyrtec. Zyrtec did absolutely nothing for me, but the Hydroxyzine worked wonders. It is great that you can continue treatment. Best of luck.

Avatar n tn t sleep, and the hives were really bad this morning, so we went to the hospital, where they gave her an IV with antihistamine and cortisone. The Dr. prescribed two type of antihistamines, loratadine and dexchlorpheniramine, as well as a once daily steroid prednisolone. A couple hours after returning from the hospital, the hives worsened. They are spreading across her body and the itching in unbearable. Solarcaine, aloe, cool baths, etc. have little effect.
Avatar n tn Has anyone tried the hydroxyzine for anxiety? I took the pill today and feel weird as heck.
1936411 tn?1333831849 ve heard of that might help with the itch are trying the over the counter antihistamines or antihistamine hydroxyzine (Atarax), anticonvulsants (e.g. gabapentin, carbamazepine, phenytoin), antidepressants (e.g. amitriptyline, paroxetine, mirtazapine), and even Pregabelin (Lyrica)....
Avatar f tn An antihistamine like cetizine 1 at bedtime for a week would be of great help.It may cause some sedation.External application of calamine is fine.
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
4748379 tn?1472048053 The Hydroxyzine is an oral antihistamine (stronger than Benadryl) and it was not until I got a high enough dose of Hydroxyzine that the rash and itching finally got under control. The Flucinonide is a strong steroid ointment which did help. It would clear up the rash after 2-3 weeks but then the rash just moved next door. That is why the Hydroxyzine was needed, to work systemically. The fluocinonide worked only where I put the ointment.
1418633 tn?1314546745 I hear it has helped others with severe treatment related itching. Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine and shouldn’t interfere with your HCV treatment. Others in here have used an over-the-counter product called ‘Gold Bond Triple Strength’ lotion with some success; although I don’t know if it’s available internationally or not. http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar m tn I am not trying to be argumentative, but the Hydroxyzine acts as an antihistamine and is used to reduce the natural chemical histamine in the body (and thus reduces both itching and rash/hives). For me, the topicals helped the itching and after about 3 weeks of using it in the same spot it cleared the rash (but only where I put the topical). It was temporary and the rash came back or moved next door or both. Also, the systemic drug reaction was going full force until I got on the Hydroxyzine.
Avatar n tn Take an over-the-counter antihistamine. Sometimes the insects carry bacterial infections so I would feel better if you had it looked at by an in-person M.D.
Avatar n tn t be beat in its ability to quickly stop a dog from chewing and causing damage to itself from flea allergy, but I think it would be prudent to reduce the prednisone to once a day and stop the hydroxyzine antihistamine temporarily, since antihistamines can cause drowsiness in some pets (I prescribe hydroxyzine all the time and have never seen weakness as a side effect) .
1102290 tn?1278499953 Your husband has been on the drugs only 1 week. If he already has a rash on his neck and back, get on top of it right away. These rashes can and will snowball out of control rapidly. I know it is a weekend, but try and reach his doctor if you can and get a prescription called in for topical steroids. I have listed below what I was prescribed. In addition, I would try to get an oral prescription antihistamine.
1431734 tn?1421011671 I agree with Paen, maybe you can get some Atarax (hydroxyzine) and see if that helps; I believe that’s an antihistamine, I can’t imagine it adversely affecting your HCV therapy. It might make you a bit sleepy though, so be wary taking it if you have a lot of stuff to accomplish: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroxyzine Sorry to hear it’s a problem; I never encountered that when it was my turn with this stuff, but I hear it’s miserable.
Avatar n tn My rash and itching never got under control until I was on both oral Hydroxyzine and the topical prescription steroid ointments. For me, the Hydroxyzine is the key. Without it, I am itching and the rash goes wild. I I were you, I would call your doctor and/or get an urgent appt. for tomorrow and get some prescriptions for the rash and itching. You may need to be assertive (depending on your doc), but get some prescriptions.
